It is no secret that kids today are out of shape. Today all kids want to do is play video games or play on their phones because of phones and video games kids don’t want to do anything. It ends up leading to kids getting overweight, with that being said teachers can’t help if a kid goes outside or not when they are home but, what they can do is make sure they get some kind of physical activity by making gym class longer. I believe that every student would benefit if gym classes were longer. I can not say it enough, we need a longer gym class. I also think if you would extend the gym class you should also take kids phones away. The thing is longer gym periods could make students feel better emotionally and physically then, your teachers would support your decision to make this move. Taking a vote would be the mature way to address this decision. Kids are way too out of shape that is why longer gym periods would be a good idea. All your teachers say is We want “what is best for our students” then not only is this a smart move for your students but it will also give your staff a chance to get assignments. In the grade book. Teachers are just as stressed as students with this kid saying this assignment was in a week ago and this student turning in late work, and on top of it they have to teacher the class. I’ve gone on and on about how I feel about this. If you think this is something that might help out your students and school. Then you can send a message out to all the parents and see how the feel about this decision. Finally, having longer passing periods would benefit our health. I have something called patellofemoral pain, so when I walk fast in the halls my knees start to hurt really bad. Also, when you’re rushing to get to your next class you can slam the locker door in a hurry and hurt someone. We never have enough time to go to the bathroom which can lead to health problems in the future. With the four minute passing period we don’t have time to socialize with friends which is important for your mental health. When you’re rushing down the hall you could fall and trip, hurting yourself or someone in the process. These are some of the reasons having a longer passing period would benefit our health.
My perspective on the decision on the policy is that it lacks careful thinking by the law-makers. If students perform different, why use just one variable to test them. It’s like hoping that you are going to produce all children that are exactly the same quality. From Kindergarten to 12th grade, children spend most of their time at school. School, what we adults think, is supposed to be the teachers of our children while we are at work. They feed them lunch, and possibly breakfast, five days out the week, keep them active, and teach them all about their body and health in health class. But, are they really taking care of them enough? Some schools fail to serve healthy foods, teach health class, or even provide enough time to be physically active. Schools serve as an amazing venue to provide students with everyday physical movement, and to instruct the essentialness of general physical action for wellbeing. Shockingly, most individuals' get little to no general physical activity while in school. Budgetary obligations and the pressure to increase test scores have brought on school authorities to address the worth of PE and other physical activity programs. With the rise in popularity of easily accessible technology, young children have a serious deficiency of physical activity. Every day we are seeing how the population in our society acquires really bad habits that risk their health. Obesity has become an issue touching everybody’s life. People are wondering what the solution of the problem might be, and a good amount of them think that the only way to stop this increasing problem is to fight it from childhood. One of the ways to keep children from getting obese is by making them do sports. Some people are convinced that forcing children to take gym class is the magical way that will help children to stay healthy and in good spirits. I agree with the fact that children should be involved in activities that make them exercise. However, I think that even if children should get some kind of physical activity everyday, they shouldn’t be forced to take gym class since it encourages other kids to intimidate the ones that aren’t perfect looking and bully the ones that aren’t talented at sports.
Student athletes live very busy lives. A typical school day runs from 8:00-2:30, add in a two- hour practice or game, score a part time job, dive into some family time, a grand slam of homework and catch a little bit of sleep. Students are more stressed due to the many activities they are a part of. This issue affects a lot of people not only in this school district, but most other high schools throughout the country. Physical education exists in schools to help students perform physical activity in schools and promote healthy lifestyles. Childhood obesity poses a serious threat to the health of our nation, children these days have little to none outdoors activities. Lack of physical activity found to be a significant factor in contributing to childhood obesity. It is very probable that the only outdoors activity that children have now is a P.E. class at school if the school offers it. It doesn’t help that most schools in the United States have had physical activities and recess programs removed from the school. In the article Physical activity and childhood obesity: strategies and solutions for schools and parents the author states, “During active class time, physical educators can look to the teachable moment in which they can talk to an entire class concerning individual differences. Just as the teaching of good sportsmanship should be an essential component of all elementary physical education programs, the recognition of obese and overweight children should be taught so that children become sensitive to the thoughts and feelings of others”.
Sport at school should NOT be compulsory. Sports training and PE take up time that could be better spent learning other subjects, and PE and Sport are not as important as other subjects like maths, science etc. It is also my belief that it students should have the right to choose whether or not we do sport/PE, because we are allowed to choose the subjects that are more important, so why are we not allowed to choose whether or not we do sport?Every year in PE, we do the same sports and the same practice drills, so after year 7, there is no point continuing to do PE, because the you are just doing the same things that you have done in previous years. 2 periods per cycle are spent on PE, 2 periods which could be spent on subjects like foreign languages, which are only allocated 4 periods per cycle or English or Science, which get 5 periods per cycle.
Also not exercising is an issue. If one does not get any exercise the fatty acids from the food consumed just sits in the stomach and builds up more fat. Parents need to encourage their children to get involved in extracurricular activities. Luckily, schools have Physical Education classes that students take part in. However, some schools don’t require their students to participate in their P.E. classes as much as other schools. For example, one school may require their students to attend P.E. class everyday for a half hour or more, and another school may require a half hour of P.E only twice a week. However, the senate passed a bill this past year that required Florida elementary school students to have 30 minutes of continuous exercise daily (The Associated Press).
I had P.E. first term of my junior year in high school, and I thought it was a waste of class time. However, I looked at my grades for first term compared to my grades during my other terms when I did not have a gym class. My grades and scores during my first term were better than my grades and scores of the other terms. I had not realized that I performed better in the classroom when I was able to be physically active during the day. Not only did I perform better, but observations have been made suggested that other students experience higher grades as well when having a gym class or participating in other physical activity during the day. Gym classes are beneficial to students and help them not only physically, but academically as well.

She has not gone up in size since she started playing softball a couple years ago, she has only grown in height.
