Haylee Klawitter- Jeffrey Kraft Memorial Scholarship Lessons for the Long Run Participation in athletics has always been a prevalent part of my life. Since I can remember I have played sports. I have partook in many activities and had countless coaches and teammates that made a major impact on me. Many lessons have been learned throughout my athletic career that I will carry into my adult life. Endurance through hard times, while still having a smile to offer others is an important way to look at sports and inevitably life. Multiple times in life I will encounter hardships. I may want to give up but, the need to persevere will always conquer all. When my team would lose a game it would have been easier to just give up; however, our coaches taught us that it just meant we needed to work harder. Putting in the extra effort would only make us a better team and better individuals. Not reaching my potential wouldn’t just hurt me it would weaken my team as well. There is …show more content…

I was alway told that it didn’t matter if we lost; it matter how we carried ourselves on the court and that we gave it our all. In the long run, people won’t remember the game, never the less they will recall the behavior of athletes. Having all the talent in the world won’t matter if that person has a terrible attitude. One coach in particular never missed a chance to inform us that “little eyes were always watching us high school athletes.” Some people may have just shrugged off those words, but as for me I will always remember to try and set a good example. In sports, at my job, in academics or in just simple everyday interactions it is vital for me to put my best foot forward. Life will dish out disappointments and my athletics in high school have educated me on how to handle them. I will take failure in stride and learn from it to ensure that I can better
