As the despondent adolescent slipped into a state of agony, a sense of worthlessness crept in to meet his already grueling state. The mindset of the child quickly degraded, as he ponders his inability to compare to his accomplished colleagues. Despite the terrible situation portrayed by the young student, children in today’s generation often experienced such a scenario. As a result, author Shirley Climo wrote “Little Red Ant and the Great Big Crumb” as a means of inspiring young learners by presenting them with an entertaining story with a universal moral (40). Consequently, she veers off from the group one day and stumbles upon an enormous crumb that could help her colony thrive in the winter. Throughout her adventure, she interacts with numerous animals, each time moving up the food chain: a lizard, spider, rooster, wolf, and farmer. Each animal conjures an excuse not to assist the young ant, leaving the ant exceedingly hopeless after each failed attempt. Despite such crippling rejections, the insect persists as she crosses paths with the large figure each animal fears, the farmer. With a sigh of relief, the ant exclaims “¡Hombre!” as the man increases in magnitude without any signs of acknowledgment. The fables “El Grillo y el Jaguar” and “The Hero in the Village” both contain similar messages of cleverness and justice. The former is a Mexican fable about an unkind jaguar who challenges a singing cricket to a race. On the other hand, the latter Bolivian fable is about a hard-working burro who is blamed for eating his master’s garden every night, but the true culprit is a group of sly foxes. Both the cricket and the burro cleverly defeat their antagonists, however. While each encloses differences, also, these fables have many resemblances in characters and themes.

From the dialogue to the characters, who inhabit the world crafted by Wright its very intriguing. On the surface it appears to be just a story about childhood disobedience in general, but the overall theme is much deeper than that.
The very hungry caterpillar illustrates the process of a little egg eats different food to grow up to be a butterfly. This book is appropriate for children between three-to-five as the storyline is clear and well-developed. Designed with simple, large pictures and bright colours, children can be engaged in the context as these illustrations are able to keep their attentions. Children’s language development can be stimulated as new vocabularies (e.g. names of different fruits) are introduced and the language structure is repeated in several pages. The trees she once admired so are taken over by hosts of mites who have infiltrated the internal organs of the giant. A bird lands on a windowsill with a squirming worm in its beak and proceeds to enact nature’s order by calmly devouring the thing while the worm desperately battles a losing campaign as the bird’s comrades virtuously chorus a lullaby, calling for it to sleep.
The story “The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket”, written by Yasunari Kawabata, is a children’s fiction story that is written in a third person narrative point of view. The author, who sets himself as the narrator, is describing what he sees as he stumbles upon a group of young, neighborhood kids as they frolic along the bank of a stream near dusk time. He points out the extreme care that the children take in creating their lanterns, and he sees the passion and enthusiasm they have while apparently searching for bugs along the bank and in the bushes. As the story goes on, the author moves from a tone of describing and being literal, to a more serious tone that causes some serious thought. He seems to be attempting to convince the audience of something emotional.

Peter Pan never wanted to grow up, for he always wanted to be a boy and have fun. On the other hand, the general argument made by author, Anne Sexton, in her poem, “The Fury of Overshoes,” is that childhood is most appreciated when a person must be independent. A university student finds that he can relate to the speaker. The high school student, still a child himself, will feel the same as the speaker in her youth. A college student and a high school student reading this poem would conclude this poem with different feelings.
The plot of “The Lesson” contributes to its theme of freeing one's self from a social class. A group of New York City kids, but particularly the narrator, Sylvia, believe that they are better than the other people in their neighborhood, such as the junk man who does his work like he was a big-time president, or their volunteer teacher, Miss Moore. This feeling of superiority is unintentionally encouraged by the parents when they speak of Miss Moore like she is a dog (60). Little Bee, by Chris Cleve, is a novel that explores unthinkable evil, but simultaneously celebrates its characters in their ability to transcend all that weighs them down, including their pasts, their secrets, and their flaws. For the character of Little Bee, identity is inescapably tied to ethnicity, nationality, gender, race, and class. A representative passage of the book that explores Little Bee’s point of view (both its unceasing optimism and stark realism) occurs in the final chapter: Little Bee is awoken from a good dream, and then comes the ominous first sentence, “There is a moment when you wake up from dreaming in the hot sun, a moment outside time when you do not know what you are” (Cleave 258). Little Bee is questioning her identity at just the moment when she should be most sure of it. Because Little Bee has been seeking a home, a family, and belonging, and has seemingly found it, the reader realizes that it is still uncertain. Still there is hope: Little Bee is hampered by the weight of her past; yet she is a character that has proven she can overcome the boundaries of her identity and change her station in life.
