The film Little Princess shot in the 1939 is one of the greatest examples of the works created by Walter Lang throughout his career. The film nowadays is related to the classical Hollywood Cinema, and has had an impressive impact on how the Hollywood was developing. The movie itself is the rags-to riches story of a plucky orphan, Sara Crewe, who is said to have lost her father at the time of the war. The movie covers a wide range of topics that were playing an essential role at those days and still highly contribute to our society. The film depicts the most essential topic of the need to hope in any circumstances and despite any obstacles arising on one's way. Furthermore, the film is an excessively detailed reflection of the Victorian epoch …show more content…
While the 1939 version toned down the mischievousness and slapstick sensibilities of the silent film, it accentuated the main character’s sunnyness and sweetness. An important lesson that Sara teaches the viewers is that she “never gives up hope of finding her Daddy, as she enlists the help of everyone” (Maslin). The character of Sara belongs to that type of characters developed in the Hollywood that remain on the screen even nowadays. This is due to the “association of childhood with innocence” that became “deeply embedded in Western Culture” (Cvetkovic 15). Thus, the importance of this film in establishment of the current types of the characters in the American films is immense. Further, the hope and the belief in the better future that never left the girl signal us that we have what to learn from this little princess. Even though she belonged to the aristocracy, she was ready to help other people and was good to servants. Furthermore, she was not afraid of work, and when the difficult times came, she faced them with her head up. This was the idea that had to be delivered to the viewers, the rich people are not only self-concerned and self-centered, but they can also have a good and large heart and to be an example for others. Such example was Sara, and through this …show more content…
The tribute to the epoch of flourishing of the British society was the precise depiction of the elements that appeared in the film. The clothes, the toys, and other inventories together with the decorations were chosen so that they would in the best manner reflect the atmosphere of the Victorian time. Everything had to look authentic, and nowadays we might thank to the so detailed depiction of the peculiarities of the British Golden Age. Besides, the immense importance is laid in the film on the personality of the Queen Victoria who has played a decisive role in the final flow of the movie. The film could be said to be a tribute to the Queen's good heart and wisdom. This was the Queen who said to let Sara look for her father in the hospital, and thanks to the interfering of Her Majesty, the film ends with a strong positive closure when the girl and her father united greet the Queen. This could be explained in terms of picturing that the Queen can influence the events, and that her good heart is always ready to help. Nevertheless, in spite of keeping the Victorian setting, the film maker have changed a lot in terms of new characters introduction, adding song-and-dance numbers and love plot (Cvetkovic 21). This has brought the film to a new level of perception and the industry to the new

The film also invokes the lesson that luxuries is not everything that it will not make you completely happy, which makes the audience feel somewhat sympathetic towards the queen. Coppola successfully achieves to use beautiful and extravagant cinematography to tell the story of the late Marie Antoinette. The mise-en-scene of the film that will be discussed is setting, costume, lighting and figure behavior.

The Fantasia experience was the result of students being unable to meet outside of class to attend a concert together. I was eager to attend not only to earn a grade, but also to see how my opinions of the movie have changed over time. I found Fantasia to be intellectually stimulating and more intriguing now than I did when I was a young child.
Since Alida’s life as a “Mrs.” was centered around her husband, she has had a hard time discovering her newfound identity as a “Ms.” “In living up to a husband all her faculties had been engaged; now she only had a daughter to live up to” (515). Yet, Alida sees her daughter as a disappointment because she is without the “vividness” of her mother (515). Maleficent was not always involved with horns and destroying the majesty’s happiness (Maleficent | Movie Review). She was not always the mistress of all evil, hiding behind her powerful dark spells. Individuals, until this day, continue to say that there are two sides to every story. The evil queen who children grew up fearing is not too terrifying after all. The fierce woman who ruined a princess's youth is now being admired after watching Maleficent. When the director takes advantage of a well created fairytale and adjusts the storyline in the right direction, it creates a different dynamic. The movie, Maleficent, takes an adventurous twirl to introduce the movie fanatics an unusual queen with black horns. Maleficent introduces a strategic
The piece I chose to write about that we learned in class is the movie Alice in Wonderland. The movie is about a girl, Alice, who has a dream about chasing a white rabbit into this magic hole, where she meets odd characters and must stay on the Queens good side. The movie was made in 1951 and was produced by Walt Disney. The idea of Alice in Wonderland came from a book written in 1865 called Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Look-Glass by Lewis Carroll. Walt Disney was working on the getting things for the movie such as the script and animation drawings while world war 2 was starting in 1939. Due to the war starting and realizing how much work was going to be needed for the movie he put everything on hold. After the war in 1945,
The film A Little Princess tells the story of Sara Crewe and Miss Minchin who have entirely different interpretations on life. Sara Crewe lived in India with her father, Captain Crewe and they moved because Captain Crewe had to fight for the British Government in World War One. Their father-daughter relationship is filled with love and support for one another. Sara subsequently is enrolled in Miss Minchin’s Seminary for Girls where she meets her future adversary, Miss Minchin. Miss Minchin is a tired old woman with a fierce attitude and two grey streaks in her hair. She desires nothing more than money and maintaining class. While the film does not show...

The outer plot, involving Mike and Anna is critical not only to contrast the present time with the 1860's but also to substantiate that some of the Victorian elements were researched and that the story was historically correct. We discovered through the second plot that the values of the present-day men and women were distinctly changed from those of Victorian ladies and gentlemen. Anna's reading about the social conditions and the prostitutes in London leads us to believe that what is portrayed in the inner plot is historically correct. The most amazing thing however, is that as well as presenting us with two time frames to contrast, this technique in itself confirms the historical correctness and the research that went into the story as the plot within a plot structure was a popular writing concept in the Victorian literature.
