Growing up, all I seemed to watch were the classic and popular Disney movies. A quote that has always stuck with me is by Rafiki. He was an extremely wise baboon in The Lion King. He told Simba "Oh yes, the past can hurt. But from the way I see it, you can either run from it, or... learn from it.". Overall this wise baboon is not very verbose, as his words are short, wise, and straight to the point. Rafiki was trying to teach Simba a life lesson. In this scene, Rafiki hits Simba, on the head, with his stick and Simba says "Ow! Jeez, what was that for?" Rafiki responds with "It doesn't matter. It's in the past." Simba then says "Yeah, but it still hurts." Rafikis response is "Oh yes, the past can hurt. But from the way I see it, you can either run from it, or... learn from it.". Then he goes to hit Simba again and Simba ducks out of the way, learning from what just happened right before. I chose this quote because it is so germane to life. I think that this quote is pretty lucid; however, to me it means to never make the same mistake twice. Mistakes are all part of learning and becoming a better you. You can always improve until the day you aren't here on this earth anymore. Nothing is wrong with mistakes, unless you continue to make the same ones over …show more content…
In school, sports, and relationships. If you don't understand things in school, you make mistakes and that is how you learn the right thing. With sports, mistakes are the only way to improve, and with tennis you have to try and try again until you get the hang of it. Lastly, in relationships, whether it's with friends or a significant other, you as a human make mistakes. Some are minor mistakes, like telling them the wrong information, and some are extremely major and will break that relationship, like cheating. You just have to continually learn and grow from everything life throws at you because in the end, you are stronger because of it
The conch shell changes color do to the fact that the group is not as united throught the whole book. At the beginning the conch was bright and powerful because it lead them but as the group started to separate the conch lost its power.(page78)
In the 1930’s, turmoil has erupted in Maycomb, Alabama all because the young lady Mayella Ewell has accused African-American Tom Robinson of raping and sexually assaulting her. Yet, Mayella Ewell has no power because of her race, class, and gender. At the time, Maycomb, Alabama was at the peak of segregation against African-Americans. Mayella Ewell may be white, but that does not mean her class, gender, nor her race give her power.
I believe this quote means a lot of things. You cannot go on with life if you constantly put yourself down because of something you did in your past. Many people are dealing with depression because they cannot forgive themselves. In order to have a good life, you need to move on from your mistakes. When people hold things back and keep secrets about themselves, they are in constant worry about someone finding out and exploiting it. It is very good to face your demons and then move on from them.
In the beginning of the book Jem is ten. He is innocent and is kind of oblivious to what is happening in the town. In the book Jem represents courage and how that courage is represented changes the older he gets. In the beginning Jem‘s courage is shown when is dared to touch the Radley house, he does that because he never backs down from a dare. That is the Jem‘s and the kids idea of courage. As the story continues Jem sees how courage is not the naive idea of touching the Radely house. He sees Atticus shot a mad dog and Mrs. Dubose fight with morphine addiction. Jem is made to read to her and when he asks why Atticus says: “I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand.“
Courage is not something that we are born with, it is a skill that takes time to learn and only a few are lucky enough to have it. To Kill a Mockingbird is not only about life in a world full of hate, it is about standing up for anyone’s beliefs being brave enough to do it. In this story, Harper Lee says “Courage is not a man with a gun in his hand. It's knowing you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do” (Lee 112). In To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee illustrates courage through Atticus Finch, Mrs. Dubose, and Arthur Radley.
At first glance, a world without any mistakes would be a utopia. However, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Mistakes are essential to learning and deciphering right from wrong. Even some of the most useful inventions today were created by mistake. Mistakes are a crucial part of the learning process and can help build up character or strength over time. Humans frequently make errors, therefore, mistakes shouldn’t be perceived negatively.
As an illustration, even fairy tales stories teaches children to live by this quote. From what I learned in Snow White, when the woodsman failed to kill her, the evil queen decided to go out and do it herself by disguising as an old woman. Despite the dwarfs’ advice to Snow White, her good heart carried the day. She still talked to the woman even though she did not know her, and still accepted the apple the woman offered her and unfortunately she fell into a deep sleep. Consequently, it shows that if she did not talk and accept the apple from the stranger, meaning the old woman, she would have never been in the situation that she was because it could have been worse. Therefore, I learned not to “talk to strangers and not let them in my home” it’s better to be safe than sorry later
The character Edmund in the tragic play "King Lear" by Shakespeare is the illegitimate son of Gloucester. Edmund throughout the play had his difficulties with his father, and himself. Power and domination played an important role in Edmund part of the play. Therefore, Edmund's part in the play can be viewed as treacherous.
Can you find power if you look for it?Macbeth is a play about a man who went from being a soldier to a King. He became King by killing his friends and the current King to become King.
... may mean that if a person does not learn from their mistakes the first
Even though Arthur is not happy about how to be the new king of England in scene three. Arthur is helpful because he is helping Kay because he is young. He is also disturbed by the destruction he sees, "How can a tournament give us a king?" In other words, Arthur is not happy about how to be the king. This quote develops Arthur's character by revealing he is worried about the destruction of the roads and everything else in England.
Depending on the severity of the mistake in judgment, this results in a life revolving around living in the hindsight full of wishes that the better path was chosen instead. The chorus, “Tell me why are we so blind to see/ That the one’s we hurt are you and me”, represents this well as it depicts the negative impact erroneous decisions can have without even realizing it because of not considering the consequences of one’s actions. Whether it is sooner or later, not thinking about the significance of actions encompasses the potential to return in an unpleasant
This means if you have a chance to change something and you hesitate you should probably take that chance. For example when my mom goes on trips with her friends I have to make my lunch and do other things that I wouldn't normally do and I realize how nice and loving my mom is. I know this is just a small thing compared to other things but what I am trying to say is never take anything for granted. Always think
“Don’t let Past Relationships and Old Mistakes ruin your Future.” LessonsLearnedinLife.com. Quote of the Day, 15 March, 2014. Web. 07 May, 2014.
Everyone, at some point in their life, has made a mistake. Sometimes we get lucky and only falter a little, making it through the problem relatively intact. Other times, we mess up a lot and have to fix what was damaged over a long period of time. However, the same is true for most, if not all cases—those who make the mistake learn from it. Often times, our failures teach us valuable lessons that we only gained because of the experience we gathered after messing up. I have personally achieved a wealth of knowledge and experience just from all of my own little mishaps, and a few major ones.
