The amount of homework that students receive daily is a controversial target, and can be argued either away. However, there have been studies conducted that show that homework consumes all of a student’s valuable time and that it has no effect on how students perform academically. Also, homework leads develops problems for students. Assigning homework to students has become a tradition for teachers and it should be discontinued, as it is not beneficial to the students, resulting in pointless work.

Every day, students go home and spend multiple hours doing their homework, due to the massive amount of it that they receive. After school, students spend most, if not all, of their time doing their homework. A study found “that a heavy homework …show more content…

For example, it also impacts students in a negative way. In a study, “a Stanford researcher found that too much homework can negatively affect kids, especially their lives away from school, where family, friends and activities matter” (Parker). This researcher from Stanford discovered that high amounts of homework, heavily impacts students. Due to all the homework students have every night, students’ lives are affected drastically. Homework also has a say in students’ health, “too much homework is associated with greater stress, reductions to health, less time for friends, family and extracurricular pursuits” (Parker). The loads of homework leads to stress and not as much time to spend with friends and family, leading to an unhealthy life stlye. Not only does homework play a role in a student’s health, homework also is a factor when it comes to how a student develops: “the survey data and student responses indicate that spending too much time on homework meant that students were “not meeting their developmental needs or cultivating other critical life skills”, according to the researchers” (Parker). The fact that students are just using all of their time after school to do homework, will affect how these students develop as they keep on growing.
