Life Outside Our Biosphere
The fragile balance of the Earth's ecosystem is constantly being disrupted. Overpopulation is placing heavy strain on the world's resources. We are burning all our fossil fuels to create the energy we need, and clearing our rainforests to make enough farmland to feed everyone. The ozone layer is slowly eroding, exposing us to harmful UV light. The room we have on this planet is just enough to provide for our population now! As the population grows, we will find ourselves more and more crowded, with no room left to expand. Solution:
Transfer part of the population off the Earth, to colonies established either on other planets or on orbiting space stations. This will lessen strain on the world's land resources by providing more agricultural area, and will help solve problems associated with overcrowding.
In our solar system, a few planetic possibilities exist for colonization.
Mars, one of our closest neighbors, was previously a prime choice until it was explored more in depth. Scientists have now found it to be a red, rocky, barren desert with little atmosphere, no water, and containing no life. If Earthlings were to settle on Mars, we would remain totally dependent on the Earth's resources. Another close planet is Venus, the second from the sun. This "sister planet" of Earth proved to have extremely hostile conditions. Scientists were hopeful when they found traces of water vapor in the upper atmosphere, but were disappointed when concentrations of sulphuric acid were discovered mixed with the water. Venus has surface temperatures of around 600 degrees Fahrenheit, and an atmosphere one hundred times as thick as the Earth's. (This produces pressure equivalent to pressure two miles under water on Earth.) These conditions project a less than comfortable life on Venus.
The Moon has held Man's curiosity since we were created, leading to such missions as the Apollos. These space missions have taught us a lot about what life on the moon would be like. The moon has little to offer us in the way of settlement: it has little to no atmosphere, and only one sixth of the gravity of
Earth. Although the moon might not be the best place for colonies to settle, it would be an excellent source of resources for nearby space stations. (
Scientists can extract oxygen from the rocks, and glass, aluminium, and other metals as well.)
Space stations orbiting in the past have been very dependent on the
Earth's supplies for construction and maintenance. The Soviets have launched a brigade of structures called Salyuts. In fact, one of their cosmonauts has lived in space for more than 235 days! They supplied the Salyuts by shuttle
During the Ancient Greece era, females were regarded lesser than males and therefore had no place within society. But Medea, unlike most women during her time, stood up to the male dominated society. Instead of quietly accepting Jason’s marriage with a younger woman, Medea instead “[relieves her] feelings by denouncing [her husband]” and she states that “[Jason] will grieve to hear [her]” (Euripides 472-473). Medea only does not listen to Jason’s command, she also threatens him by saying that he will regret his choice. Later when Jason talks to Medea, he states that he must “escape the wearisome storm of [Medea’s] words” (Euripides 521-522). With the use of nautical imagery, Jason compares Medea’s voice to that of a powerful storm. This contradicts the stereotypical portrayal of women in Ancient Greece as they are viewed as weak beings. After killing her children, Medea tells Jason that “[he] shall never lay a hand on [her]” (Euripides 1320-1322). Even in modern society, many women fall victim towards domestic violence from their husbands. Medea stands up to Jason’s abuse and shows no signs of fear due to this resistance. The chorus of the play even shares Medea...
Medea?s questions the inequality of women in a patriarchal society, contradicts Jason?s chauvinist beliefs, challenges the stereotype that women are weak and passive and completely disregards the feminine role of motherhood. In society today many people believe Medea to be a pioneer of feminism, even though her society/chorus scorns Medea after she killed her children. Medea still reveals many good and relevant stereotypes, such as the ?motherhood? and ?nurturing? roles that women still object to and fight against today.
Social Work is a helping profession that strives to help the community on micro, mezzo, and macro levels. It is an investment of self to offer services and help to those in need. Areas of service can include, but are not limited to, traumatic situations, family situations, and child protection. As in most social service professions, the field of social work can often times take a toll on the emotional and physical stability of a social worker. One side effect from working in a helping profession is compassion fatigue. As a result, the National Association of Social Workers stresses the importance of self-care and its vitality in ensuring the social worker does not get burnt out by the profession.
At this point, Jason had regretted underestimating her as the woman their culture assumed them to be. After reading Jason comment it was obvious she had not only achieved her goal of revenge, but she had also proven to everyone that not all women are weak and frail as the men saw them. The Chorus predicts that “The tidings will change, and a virtuous reputation will grace my name. The race of women will reap honor, no longer the shame of disgraceful rumor” (Euripides 539). Through Medea actions, the Chorus which consists of the women slowly starts to support her and seem to also be changing away from the norm. The Chorus then predict that more women will later change from the traditional beliefs bestowed on them, and women will then no longer face disgraceful
Because almost fifty percent of adults may experience a mental illness in their lifetime, this creates a heavy caseload for social workers. One of the biggest drawbacks workers cite as stressful in their career, is the volume of cases they have open at any given time. This can create what is called burnout, leading workers to experience a sense of failure and lack of accomplishment. This is a problem for the individual, as well as the entire social work

As the social worker, one has to obtain a repertoire of skills to identify and examine issues and problems so that it can be best dealt with accordingly. It’s the responsibility of the Social Worker, to aid diverse types of individuals, groups’ organizations and family. Furthermore, finding solutions and improve the quality of their lives, whether there is a need for food and housing to be provided or assistance for education or even that of counselling. The need for others to have a better quality life is a dream that still lives on
Within the social work profession, stress is an element that can be experienced by the client and social worker. Stress is considered the physical, mental, and emotional strain that results in negative consequences (The American Institute of Stress, 2017). For instance, the behavior of the client and social worker can be influenced by stressful experiences or by observing others in a stressful situation. In social psychology, this influence is based on the learning theory of social behavior (Lewis, 1936). The impact of stress relates to the learning theory through the social work practice, the social worker, and the community.
Since the axis is on the side, forming a solid crust, leaving the inside hollow. Since that is hollow they could have animal life, people life, or just a whole different world below us.
Not many people can handle the stress of being a social worker, but in the end it is very rewarding. This job is not an everyday job for some people, it is a lot of hard work and it is helping people with situations that a person doesn’t see everyday. As a social worker it takes a lot to get through to people and for them to understand that what they are going through is not okay.
2013). Communication skills, issues focusing, trust building, establishing a structure for management of conflict in an integrated organizational environment are considered for conflict resolution method. The author has presented types of conflict, explanation of conflict resolution, benefits of conflict, reasons of conflicts, conflict resolution strategies and also mentioned how to prevent and effectively resolve conflict. However, the main objective of this journal is to focus concept of conflict. Thakore, D. (2013) has mentioned that conflict cannot be avoided because it is an inevitable part of the teams and outcome of the behaviors. When people interact, conflict arises thus it is an integral part of the human life (Thakore, D. 2013). Expression of hostility, negative attitudes, antagonism, aggression, ego, rivalry and misunderstanding are the causes of the conflict (see also, Schellenberg, 1996). Conflict has been studied over centuries with different approach solutions however more methodical and rational studies were started since twentieth centuries. As academically, political anthropology, part of social anthropology, marked as publication of “African Political Systems” in 1940 started review “conflict” part and flourished as conflict resolution approach by Fortes and Evans- Prichard (Thakore, D. 2013). As a theoretical discourse, conflict
Consumerism for Americans has eaten up the life of people in our world today. The movement of the modern society seems to call for greater accessories to life rather than more beneficial things. The intake for anyone has become much easier due to the ways the word can be spread such as television, music ads, videos and so much more. However, not all of these accessories are handy to one's life in the aspects of happiness, attitude towards others and the will to accomplish in the present and future. Consumption around the world has grown into habits, problems and just a getaway for some people.Despite the continuing flow of it all, some would have to ask whether it’s better to be caught up in it all or simply do what would help in real life
Social work is a profession that helps individuals and communities function better in society. Is a unique profession due to its focus on both the person and the environment. The main purpose of being a social worker is to facilitate social change for oppressed individuals and groups. A social worker’s responsibility is to promote, restore, and maintain the wellbeing of individuals. Individuals come from different paths of life and experience such hardships as poor health, poverty, and lack of education. Despite these difficulties, social workers still need to inspire and motivate people by creating strategies to help them be successful. Social workers focus on providing needed help and resources,
Section 4.01 state that social workers should strive to obtain knowledge about social work ethics and the responsibilities that are required within this profession (NASW, 1996). Within social work, it is important to gain self-knowledge due to the many clients that they are in contact with. Bordens and Horowitz (2002) discuss that self-knowledge is obtained by observing one’s own behavior. When a social worker gains self-knowledge, it can create self-confidence and produce ethical behavior. However, if a social work does not manage the natural stress of their workplace, it can cause negative unethical behavior due to impaired cognitive functioning (Deligkaris, Panagopoulou, Montgomery, & Masoura, 2014). Meaning, a social worker’s mental health status can become weakened due to the frustration of stress and will produce behaviors that may affect the services being provided to the
effect. A lot of the rays from the sun are absorbed by water vapor that is naturally in our
