sitting around and doing nothing in between calls, which happens frequently and can last many hours before something happens. But in order to become a paramedic there are a few requirements that must be met along the way including schooling and training. Schooling, above everything else, is probably one of the more important aspects required in order to begin the training to becoming a paramedic. Out of all the colleges that could be chosen for this type of career, Grand Canyon University is a top notch choice. Grand Canyon University is a private christian university located in Phoenix, Arizona. Since they are private they are a private university it can be a little bit more difficult to be accepted into. But there are also some great advantages to choosing to attend a private university such as GCU. For instance, Grand canyon university is able to chose and set their own tuition fee and leave it there for as long as they would like. They also offer some great work study programs which can allow for some great experience in the field that said career is in. Now, Grand Canyon University doesn't have a paramedic program specifically, but the nursing program there has a trauma unit which goes hand in hand with being a paramedic. But there are many things that first must be achieved in order to obtain a degree in nursing from that college. First off, all general education required classes must be completed. These classes consists of biology, chemistry, and calculus (Grand Canyon University.Com). After completing all general education classes, the journey to obtain a degree in nursing continues. One of the first degree that must be obtained is a RN degree or a registered nursing degree. “This degree takes about 2 to 3 years to complete but after doing so it will qualify a student to begin working as a registered nurse.”(Nmaetc.Org). Going through this program will teach a person the basic skills that are required in order for a student to obtain a degree and begin a career in paramedicine. These skills consist of clinical skills, nursing skills, administrative skills, psychology, anatomy, and biochemistry. After achieving all of the steps required to obtain a registered nursing degree, the journey to getting a BSN or a bachelors of science nursing degree. This is the primary degree that is needed to actually begin a career in nursing or to become a paramedic. It takes four years to get this degree through nursing college. After completing all of the requirements for a BSN degree the student can either chose to further his or her education in one specific field such as trauma or research, Or they can chose to go on and get the AAS degree or associates of applied science degree. This degree just allows for further advancement in knowledge in the field of study that is being pursued. Once all degrees are obtained the journey is not over yet. Before a career can be started as a paramedic, 1000 clinical hours must be logged in an emergency room or paramedic department. This allows for the student to show off the skills that he or she has obtained throughout the 8 years that they have spent in college. There are many different skills that one must learn in order to become a paramedic. Not only must you be able to handle high pressure situations and high flows of adrenaline, you must also be able to work well with others. Not just your co workers but also the patients that you are working with. Pam Stevens, a former paramedic for the canyon county paramedics, stated “An important trait that you must have with you when becoming a paramedic is the ability to work well with others, when you are on a call and patients are intoxicated or are throwing up or in serious pain they are not always going to cooperate in the most polite manner.” Which is very true, patients will be in all sorts of different moods and it is the duty of the paramedic to work with those moods and to be able to respond in the most humane way possible. Others sets of skills that a paramedic must posses are the ability to admit patients into an emergency room, have experience in pre and post surgical care. The best way to get experience in these types of things are hands on care. running clinicals or job shadowing is a great way to get the hands on experience for this job. The major skills that will have to be learned are knowing IV therapy, ventricular and cardiac monitoring, how to manage pain in a patient and help with the distribution of medications to patients as well as assisting them in taking them. A few other key skills that need to be possessed by a paramedic are communication and motivational skills. Working around and with other people will require a set of communication skills that is both timely and professional. Also since a paramedic works very long and stressful hours, being able to stay properly motivated and working throughout your long shifts is a must have. Also while on the subject of stress, PTSD is a big side effect of this job. A paramedic will see things that will scar him or her for life, being able to take these horrendous events in and accepting them and learning to move on is a big thing to be able to do in this business. According to Pam Stevens, “ The best skill set that a person can go into this career possessing is the ability to multi task, when working in a very high stress situation you will need to be able to give orders and stay calm while doing so.” Being able to stay calm and collected during a call will help out with keeping PTSD away. Not only that but it gives the ability to show that the person has leadership and can work well under stress. Once all degree requirements are met and all clinical hours have been logged, the journey into paramedicine is almost complete. The one thing that must be completed before the title paramedic can be given to a career. A person must become officially registered, this must happen through the ENA (Emergency Nurses Association). To do this, a 16 hour course must be completed through this company. “This course is referred to as the TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course).” (Discovernursing. Com) After going through this course the job of a paramedic is finally ready. The average salary for a paramedic in Idaho is around 30,000 dollars a year.
In bigger cities such as Illinois in can be upwards of 90,000 dollars. Becoming a paramedic is a very large field that has a very large demand for jobs. The 10 year growth of this job is a lot faster than average. The annual opening for this job is very high, paramedics and trauma nurses are in much higher demand now because of the advanced set of skills and training that they posses. Because of this, it makes the journey to becoming a paramedic and the success of achieving it is a lot more satisfying. So next time the question “What do you plan on doing after high school?” is asked, the answer to that question will be becoming a paramedic. Because that is an all around great career. It is fast paced, adrenaline fueled. The best thing about this job is just the fact that no matter what something new is going to happen every day and nothing will ever be boring. So consider becoming a paramedic and see what happens and what can come from that most satisfying
career.
In recent discussions of education, a controversial issue has been whether or not to go to college after high school. On the one hand, some argue that starting your career after high school is the smart thing to do. On the other hand, however, others argue that the smarter decision would be to continue your schooling by going to college to get a degree. In sum, then, the issue is whether or not college is the right decision for you. My own view is that you should go to college because it helps you build character, start a tradition, and gives you experience.
From the time a child enters preschool, teachers begin asking a common question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” That dreaded query has always haunted me, mostly because the way it was redundantly asked put a ton of pressure on me and my peers. The question was like a rusty nail being hammered into our head’s by society. I continuously had the cliché answers of becoming a doctor, teacher, or a police officer, but with serious reservations. After years of not having a clue, I started to think about what I like to do after the stresses of work and school were gone at the end of the day.
I felt as though I was watching a train barrelling towards me, an inevitable bullet that had come tumbling out of the opposing pitcher’s arm. But instead I stood immobilized, watching my team's only chance of winning whiz by me. Strike three. I heard my team from behind me shouting “SWING!” with my mind screaming the same. But my bat remained unmoving, the pop of the catcher's glove like the nail into the coffin that was our defeat. All I had to do to keep our hopes of winning hope alive was swing, and yet I couldn't. I stayed on the field afterwards, tossing the ball up in the air and swinging away, landing it on the thick maple barrel of the bat.
As we begin to grow up and come to the end of our high school career we must start to begin to start thinking about what type of career we want to be in. It is very important that a person picks the right type of career for them. Otherwise you will be unhappy with what you are doing and will not enjoy it at all. I am not entirely sure what I want my career to be but I have a pretty good idea as to what type of job it will be. I would like to go into the field of a physical therapist and sports medicine, I fell I will enjoy this more than any other type of career just because I already have a lot of interest in it.
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” I am asked that question frequently the older I get. I change my mind quite often, because I do not know what I want to be or what I want to do for the rest of my life. To pick a college is one thing, but to choose a career that will help you survive in this world is a much bigger step. Most of the time when people choose their profession, they end up choosing the job’s salary over the job itself. I do not want to be one of those people because I would rather choose happiness over money. Money might get you a lot of things, but it will not get you everything. I often like to acknowledge the idea nursing to whoever may ask. Obstetric nursing is something that interests me because I am making a positive
Graduating high school was really exciting for me, but at the same time I was apprehensive because I knew it was a significant milestone in my life and I didn't know what to expect with college. However, the freedoms provided by college ending up being wonderful. I love being able to completely manage my time on my own and make my own decisions. I graduate college next May. If I were not going to grad school I would probably be dreading it because I don't think I'm ready for the "real world" and having a 9-5 job yet. So, since I am continuing my education it's going to be exciting since I will be moving to a new state and meeting new people.
The career field I chose is to be a firefighter. The reason why I want to be a firefighter is because they help people and prevent fires from spreading. I’ve always wanted to help people everywhere, because I don’t like it whenever if there is an accident and some people died and lost their loved ones, people talking crap about them and just talking and pointing the cameras in their face watching them cry. I want to help people and make a difference and help protect people’s life, and be someone people recognize when I walk by them.

‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ A question that everyone is asked multiple times through their childhood. Until about 2 years ago, I didn’t quite know what I wanted to do. I had made the jumps from meteorologist, to engineer, to medical technician, to pilot. But one day when we were on vacation, my aunt, an RN at Beloit Memorial Hospital, asked me what I wanted to do. At that point, I admitted I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I told her my current academic path was leading me towards the science field, but I knew that was too broad of a dream. Of course, her being in the line of work she was in, she asked me if I had ever thought of being a nurse. I was skeptical at first, but after an hour of information and question answering,
Let’s flash back in time to before our college days. Back to then we had lunch trays filled with rubbery chicken nuggets, stale pizza, and bags of chocolate milk. A backpack stacked with Lisa Frank note books, flexi rulers, and color changing pencils. The times where we thought we wouldn’t make it out alive, but we did. Through all the trials and tribulations school helped build who I am today and shaped my future. From basic functions all the way to life-long lessons that helped shape my character.
The career that I want to pursue after high school is surgery. More specifically, reconstructive plastic surgery. I want to do facial constructive surgery for children born with a cleft lip and palate. In addition to that, I want to perform reconstructive surgery on burn victims. I chose this career field because I was born with a cleft lip and palate, and know firsthand the impact a good surgeon can have on someone 's life. It is important to understand the education or training requirements, skills or talents needed, salary and benefits offered, and the duties for a particular career when making this decision.
After high school I have many plans that I would like to accomplish, but I know that I have to take it slow because I can’t have everything at once. After I graduate, I plan to pick up business on my golf cart ...
With all the independence and freedom that recent high school graduates possess, they should carefully ponder the possible options that exist. Through abiding by the “check the destination before the ticket is purchased” adage, high school graduates can competently guide their personal journeys in college life or the real world. Regardless of the path chosen, college students and those who immediately enter the workforce will ultimately decide their future destinations. In addition, while graduates pursue their dreams, goals must be set and diligently fostered. The necessity of a college and/or career game plan is crucial, and should not be disregarded. Before Dr. King ended his “I Have a Dream” speech he declared, “Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning.” Similarly, high school graduation is not a finish line, but a starting gun.
What will I do for the rest of my life? Every person asks this question at some stage of their life, usually during their later teenage years. As a high school junior, I am now asking myself this question. After considerable thought, I have devised a tentative plan for my future. I realize that some of these plans and goals may change over time, but with a plan, the first steps of the journey can begin. To prepare me for the journey, I have taken very challenging high school curriculum, such as Honors and Advanced Placement courses. These classes will not only assist in my admission to college, but have also helped me to develop strong study skills and time management.
Time flies so fast. Looking back, my high school is just like a movie, a lot of things happened. Each year is special and unique in their own way. My journey through high school was a tough one, especially because I decided to not only focus on academic work but also to invest quality time in extra curriculum activities. I wanted more than just academic excellence; I wanted to be a leader, I wanted to add value to every aspect of my life, I wanted a rounded education and not just mere schooling. My success story is what I will like to share with you; how I really made it and how this defines my personality. My journey in High School was scary, exciting, and successful.
