The concept of family violence, tied in with mental illness is highly contentious and arguable. When reading about the Luke Batty case, I was firstly shocked and later confused. The whole situation is terrible and I feel remorse for everyone who was affected, especially Rosie. On the surface this case appears to be black and white, however when you dig deeper there’s a lot more to it.
On May 7th 2000, fifteen year old Brenton Butler was accused of the murder of Mary Ann Stephens, who had been fatally shot in the head while walking down a breezeway of a hotel with her husband. Two and a half hours later, Butler is seen walking a mile away from where the incident occurred, and is picked up by the police because he fit the description of the individual who shot Mary Ann Stephens. However, the only characteristic of the description that Butler featured was the color of his skin. Police then brought Butler to the scene of the crime in order for Mary Ann Stephens’s husband, James Stephens, to confirm whether or not Butler was the individual who had shot his wife. Almost immediately, Stephens identifies Butler as his wife’s killer.
On Bloodsworth’s appeal he argued several points. First he argued that there was not sufficient evidence to tie Bloodsworth to the crime. The courts ruled that the ruling stand on the grounds that the witness evidence was enough for reasonable doubt that the c...
This morning October 8th 1965 at about 5:13 am the body of Bob Sheldon was found lying next to the park fountain he was seen to be in a pool of blood. His body had a single stab wound in his back which had pierced his heart, killing him instantly. Supposed eye witnesses say that a small boy who was a member of the "Greaser Gang" attacked and killed Bob and intended to kill the rest of them. Cherry Valance claims that she was walking with Johnny and Ponyboy after the movies when Bob approached them in his car and threatened the two them. Be on the lookout for the two boys with the description of one that has long light-brown hair, green eyes, and is about five feet tall and another has long jet-black hair, large black eyes, and is about four feet six inches. The first one is considered to be Ponyboy and the second one is considered to be Johnny. The two are now on the run they were last seen at a party with Dally. Investigators report that Dally says he has no idea where these two are but he thinks that they are going to Mexico. A woman was taking a walk through the park and discovered the bloody corpse she said “I was hesitant at first because I thought they were watching me, but I gained some courage and called 911” the friends that were their helping Bob bully the 2 said they were there during the homicide, but decided not to call the police because they were drunk and they were scared after seeing him dead. They said, the murderer was a 16 year old boy named Johnny Cade.
One of the main characters of The Things They Carried ,written by Tim O’Brien ,named Lieutenant Jimmy Cross and he was only 24 years old, yet he carried the responsibility for the lives of his men. Like most men in the war Jimmy Cross did not sign up for it, he was drafted, and often times his mind was elsewhere trying to escape the realities of the war. He was young and often thought about what most do at his age, women. He had a particular girl, and he was often caught daydreaming about this girl back home. Her name was Martha and she was an English major at Mount Sebastian College in New Jersey, she played volleyball and was a junior in college. In a way Martha represented a religion to him, and he worshipped her day and night. Although Martha was not interested in Cross, he was still interested in her and loved knowing that the love was not returned. The way that the men escaped their reality differed and for Cross, Martha was his distraction. Cross was indeed a martyr. Much like a martyr he endured great suffering brought on by saying goodbye to all that reminded him of Martha on behalf of a belief or cause such as keeping his men alive during the war.
General Macarthur is the general that sent his men to die because one of his soldiers had an affair with his wife. All the other characters think that General Macarthur is insane because of the way he acts in the movie. Robert Duvall would good for this role because Duvall served in the military before starting his acting career. This makes Robert Duvall and General Macarthur relatable with each other. This quote proves it “Looked as though there might be something in the rumour that the Admiralty or the War Office or the Air Force had got hold of it…” (Christie 11). This is directly related to the military so this is why I picked Robert
knows the situation is starting to get out of control he does not calm the anger of the rioters, due to preserving his reputation, “I can’t do it…did you see that crowd”(Doyle 113). The lesson that one should learn is to not let any politician to gain a reputation by causing conflict. If this is seen then the government should act to cool down the situation.
The story of Antwone Fisher is a very intriguing and moving story. Antwone Fisher was an individual that was resilient and had endured so much in his life. As a young child, he did not live in the best environment. He lacked the guidance that is recommended that a child should have. There are two theories that may help to explain Antwone Fisher. These two theories are Bandura’s modeling theory and Roger’s self-actualization theory.
JoAnn had been shot a year before the attack that ended her life. In this attack she was shot in the shoulder. No person was arrested for this crime. However, Lynne Mendell’s testimony brought an explanation to the table. Mendell told the Court that when Thatcher came down to Palm Springs a few days after his wife had been shot, he told her he’d rented a car; that he, Thatcher, wore a disguise in order to disguise him and his credentials while attempting to murder his wife. According to Ms. Mendell, he told her: “Gee, I didn't gauge the thickness of the glass so the bullet obviously deflected because I only got her in the shoulder.” She also stated that Thatcher told her he left Regina and ran into roadblocks, he then abandoned the gun, the wig, and the overalls in a field and made his way back to Moose Jaw. This testimony confirms Thatcher made previous attempts on his ex wife’s life, therefore there was a pattern, a motive, and invulnerability because of his previous attempt on her life with no
On January 17, 1982, her body was found in the wardrobe of her bedroom by a neighbour, Jimmy Holloway. He had been given a key to her home by Mrs. Edwards. Mrs. Edwards had been wounded to death. Whether she had been sexually attacked would remain a subject of some difference (Berkeley Law School Death Penalty Clinic, 2012; Bonner, 2013; Grinberg, 2014; Law Book Review: Anatomy of Injustice: A Murder Case Gone Wrong by Raymond Bonner, 2012; Van Horne,
According to, “Murder on a Sunday Morning”, Brenton Butler was accused of a murder of Mary Ann Stephens. During the trial, there has been some moral and corrupt evidence to prove whether this “suspect” was guilty or not. Many logical pieces of evidence were provided during the trial such as, photographs of the clothing that was worn by Mr. Butler to observe whether Mr. Stephens could identify it – and proving that Mr. Butler was accused because of his race. There has been biased argumentation during this trial such as identifying racial profiling (African-American), another eye-witness name Mr. Stevens discovered a bag of Mary Ann Stephens near the garbage, been accused by the police for “taking the gun” out of bag – but failed to fingerprint
