If you were told to think of a blessing, your mind might first go to winning the lottery, or being given enough chocolate cake to last a lifetime. A kind heart would probably not be your first choice. Sometimes, however, a kind heart is the greatest blessing one can obtain. Leaf by Niggle by J.R.R. Tolkien is a short story about one man’s experience with a kind heart. In this story, Niggle’s fate is decided by two voices, one commending him for his kind heart, the other criticizing him for his thoughtless demeanor. Niggle’s kind heart is a blessing because it redeems him in the end. To prove this, we will first look at how Niggle’s kind heart drives him to help other people. Then we will see how Niggle’s kind-heartedness forces him to do the tasks that the community has placed on him, and do them well, despite only wanting to work on his painting. Next we will look at Niggle’s kind heart as a whole and see that his fate depends on his heart. In the end, we will hopefully understand why Niggle’s kind-heartedness is so important. …show more content…
His inability to say no without feeling guilty, “land[s] him in a good many odd jobs for his neighbor[s],” (Niggle, 1). When his fate is being decided by two Voices, the voice in Niggle’s favor says that “he never expected any Return, as so many of his sort call it,” (Niggle, 6). The Second Voice meant that Niggle never expected any praise of any favors for helping his neighbors, he saw this as something he had to do. This helps sway the Voices to give Niggle the gentle
In conclusion, the use of symbols, epiphanies, and characterization demonstrates how the help of others enables an individual to transform in Touching Spirit Bear. Through others, Cole realizes that he is not alone. When Cole helps Peter, he discovers that he can feel better without hurting others. No one has to go through changes alone. The courage and thoughtfulness of others can help people become the person they want to be. Ben Mikaelsen uses Touching Spirit Bear to reveal that everyone needs help from time to time, while showing that even a person so angry like Cole Mathew can change. If an individual doesn’t acknowledge that they need help even if they don’t want it then that individual will not be able to become a better man.
So if we want joy, love, and empathy in our lives, we need to let vulnerability into our hearts.... ... middle of paper ... ... But instead of reacting negatively, I was pleased to see that Anabella and Francisco and Santos – and all my other students – understood. They saw that I was trying my best, and that for any positive change to occur, we, all, had to put ourselves at risk in the arena.
...o him, and help others. Finally, after getting home, Dida presented Amit with a gift: a photo of her young self, holding an ice-cream cone. Feeling touched by receiving this gift, Amit gives her a gift as well: a bluish-purple stone with a yellow streak to remind her of him. Through all of this, Amit has shown how over a short period of time spent with someone can cause their negative traits to turn around, a hundred and eighty degrees, and become positive.

In conclusion, the characters NightJohn and Sarny in the book NightJohn by Gary Paulsen demonstrate that it is important to put others’ needs before your own. Both NightJohn and Sarny put themselves in dangerous situations, but by doing this they were able to benefit others. By living our lives putting others’ needs before our own we can become selfless and more understanding people and affect the world around us for the
Lilo and Stitch: Film Review One theme we have talked about throughout the course of the class is the physical appearance of characters and how they were draw. While watching Lilo and Stitch this idea came to mind, especially in comparison with how characters from other multicultural films are drawn. In this film the characters are drawn with slanted eyes, flattened noses, and large lips. The facial features among other ethnically diverse Disney characters like Mulan and Tiana seem to be some of the only differences, usually women’s body shapes remain consistent across films.
Literary Analysis “He knew his father yelled now and then, but usually he yelled for a good reason, and all he had done was hold on to the carrot sticks. He was sure he had held them at dinner before.” -Adam Bagdasarian. This quote from “Carrots” is an excellent example of what the boy feels in the two short stories, “My Side of the Story” and “Carrots”. Not many people think of anger as a serious issue and relate it to being a common part of nature.
The everyday world brings harsh conflicts and strong willed people that oppose it. The corruption in society helps bring out the good in some people and the bad in the rest. No matter how many bad people in the world there will always be good-hearted, loving and curious people that will help bring back the light to the world. The bad in the world helps some people realize the true character and goodness inside of them and can help them reflect back onto their character. No matter how big or small a decision might be it will bring you closer to knowing who you really are. These decisions can lead to individuality from others and standing up for what you believe in even if it goes against other people’s views. In All the Light We Cannot See,
Perhaps having people like Sula in a community should be considered a necessary evil if it motivates people to do good. Everything in this world has a balance. Without negative, there is no positive, and without Sula, there is no Nel. Their friendship is strong and they are one when together, and become nothing when broken apart. Nel turns into a dull housewife, living the life of her mother, and Sula dies alone without anyone who truly loves her by her side. "

Aesop once stated, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” In this time period, many people around the globe only focus on their life, and they do not focus on lifting others up. Kindness is one word that can change lives, even when the person that shows kindness doesn’t even know the impact they are making. One act of kindness does not appear to be very important, but every act makes an impact. The world is full of hatred, war, and terrorism, but anybody can start to make a change. Some reasons that any act of kindness has an impact include other people needing positivity, the start of a chain reaction, and the benefit of other people in the world.
