The everyday world brings harsh conflicts and strong willed people that oppose it. The corruption in society helps bring out the good in some people and the bad in the rest. No matter how many bad people in the world there will always be good-hearted, loving and curious people that will help bring back the light to the world. The bad in the world helps some people realize the true character and goodness inside of them and can help them reflect back onto their character. No matter how big or small a decision might be it will bring you closer to knowing who you really are. These decisions can lead to individuality from others and standing up for what you believe in even if it goes against other people’s views. In All the Light We Cannot See, …show more content…
She went blind as a small child and this added more hardships to her life than other people had to endure. Her father was a locksmith at the Natural History Museum of Paris, and when everyone escaped from Paris he was given a precious diamond called the Sea of Flames to protect. However, quickly after they arrived at Saint-Malo he was arrested and never heard from again, thus leaving the diamond for his daughter to protect. The diamond allegedly had “magical powers” that would bring a person eternal life, this brought about a man named Sergeant Von Rumpel who was looking for the stone to cure him of his terminal illness. The allies come to attack the village leaving no one able to escape, this brought Von Rumpel to search through Marie-Laure’s house to find the diamond, this forced her to hide up in the attic with the illegal radio. She comes to realize the true power of the stone, and that it only holds greed and selfishness. She comes to the conclusion that she doesn’t want these characteristics so she throws it into the ocean never to be found again. “The keeper of the stone would live forever, but so long as he kept it, misfortunes would fall on all those he loved one after another in unending rain….Who would willingly part with it?” (Anthony Doerr p 429). This conflict over the diamond made Marie-Laure realize that she wasn’t the type of person to …show more content…
They both possessed an extensive sense of curiosity and wonder which was only boosted by the conflicts in the war. Marie-Laure’s blindness along with the loss of Madame Manec and her father, and the burden of keeping the Sea of Flames only enabled her true self into shining which is a smart, independent and appreciative girl. Werner Pfennig had to hide that fact that he believed in different philosophies to keep himself alive during his travels throughout Europe and during his school days. By the end of their expeditions they both ended up in Saint-Malo they showed bravery and courageousness as well as strong faith and curiosity while they were trapped. Every obstacle they faced molded them into better and stronger people. The theory that conflict leads to individuality and and reveals someone’s true character is proven in All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony
Even though Marie couldn’t see she loved to read. She went to the museum everyday with her father. On every one of her birthdays her father got her a brail book to read. Growing up Marie had to learn how to count her steps and to feel things to know where she was at and where she was going. Marie really had to become strong when moving to Saint-Malo. Her father had become distant from everybody. Marie started to become close to her uncle Etienne and his care taker Madame Manec. She was so eager to leave the house and walk around Saint-Malo and feel around. Her father refused and wouldn’t let her leave the
People are able to survive and thrive better with the help of others. That is why we form communities and build relationships.
Many people in the world get into an almost unbreakable routine, shielding themselves from the real world. We wake up, brush our teeth, go to school with the same people, go home, and do it all over again. Once there is a roadblock in the way, it forces us to step outside our shell and look at others views for a change. American mythologist, writer, and lecturer,Joseph Campbell once said,”We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.” It is the act of noticing others words and actions that will reshape our lives for the better. In “Secret Samantha” and “Sol Painting, Inc.” the authors suggest that observing someone else’s perspective and taking the time to understand others can be mankind's greatest
Himba’s collective world revolves around Mukuru, the ancestors, and omiti. Most people in the Himba society try to follow the system in their society; some diverge and deviate away through different interpretations and perspectives. The Himba society, like other societies in our world has expectations and contributions that each individual makes in the society. Each individual in the society contributes through their own perspective of the world. Although, people have different opinions and deviance, they live and work together through the common belief of the Himba Society. The individuals in the Himba society that have personal views and opinions of the world reinforce individualism and the different traits that all human beings share. In any society in our world we see individualism and traits that distinguishes us as individuals.
In conclusion, in every short story the main character is challenging or going against the world in many ways. Whether it 's by challenging the Law, Themselves, or society. Everyone has something they have to prove and they try their best to live life the way they want without regrets at the end of the day. Each one has a lesson behind it that you can relate to one way or another. Everyone’s
So, throughout the story and throughout life, we see society making countless decisions, making countless mistakes, and repeating the process over and over again. And then, we see the individuals that try to prevent the worst from happening to the world, or in the countries they reside in. However, if it's one thing that can change the world, it's what someone believes in, and what they do personally to back it up.
"My life has helped me realize and understand the power of people. When we pull together we can make anything happen even world peace. We are all connected, our lives overlap, our stories are intertwined, and our fates are shared." Maja Kazazic.
And if you can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them.” Obviously, I have self-interests that I need to try to accomplish for my own betterment, but if my personal betterments cannot help society become enhanced, I have failed society. And I do not want to fail society, because that is also a personal failure. The team building exercise helped me realize that there will be times in life were either I or someone else will try to exploit the other, and that should not be the goal. GLOBE has reminded me that I should take more opportunities to help those around
The holes and accidents of living, the unpredictable emotional inconsistency of living isn't explained simply through power and best interest alone, instead let us take accidents and mistakes as the foundation of living. Not all things follow power, nor does power the end needs of human ambition obtain complete happiness, but rather promotes the impossible. Something must be said for pity, for the sight of someone in pain that condemns both concepts. Neither weakness nor passivity, nor the understanding of nature would do in describing our actions when faced with starvation, the holocaust, or dying.
Currently in the world today, everyone is fighting in a cloud of smoggy and jumbled politics and of general life. This cloud is so dark and hazy that it blinds everyone, which makes it so that no one can see another person’s side or view. This causes people to continue to argue and never come to a consensus, like trying to swim through ice - it’s impossible to agree. This cloud has evolved so much and become so much like the norm that many people do not see the problems that it’s causing. People need to be more aware that being one-sided will only bring more tension and not allow for anything to be done. It is time to take action and clean out the smog and haze from the cloud. It is time to be able to see each other from opposite sides of the cloud and respect each other’s views and opinions. To do this, we must have a more open mind, and have the mindset that is more willing to accept differences. Therefore, civility is a very important necessity that our society needs currently and for the future, and can be achieved through efforts to change our mindsets.
This chapter presents how geography means everything in a story: the people, the history, the economy, the politics, the setting, the theme and even the plot itself. Although Doerr presents compelling characters in All the Light We Cannot See, the geographical location of the novel holds a major part of the plot, as readers are aware of the historical occurrences of the time described.
In the play ‘The Life of Galileo’ by Bertolt Brecht, some of the characters held personal reasons and beliefs which consequently display the unpleasant side of humanity. Each firmly believes that their thoughts and actions are justified. For instances, Galileo Galilei and the Roman Catholic Church. In my opinion, it is a necessity to be “bad” for the betterment of the world. As the saying goes, “You have to be cruel to be kind.” However, there are some who have good intentions but their actions have ironically changed the world from “bad” to “worse”.

... of the importance of both compassion and courage as equal parts of the same solution can be quantified by the number of bodies stacked in piles on the sides of streets throughout Rwanda and all around the world. Yet, when one notices the resilience of the suffering it cannot go without notice that one must be both strong and good in order to protect and love others. These two capacities work in unison to create the mightiest of warriors, the greatest humanitarians, and the most based humans of all. Despite all skepticism, something that will always ring true throughout time is that humans, left to their own devices, will always degenerate into the same ghoulish hashing that have always vexed the realm of mortals without. That is, unless each individual makes the consciousness decision to live a life backed by the defining character traits of courage and compassion.
People look in the face of evil like it does not affect their daily life. Why do people stand aside while evil is in their midst? In this essay, I will show that it is unfortunately common for people to remain quiet while injustice flares up like wildfire. A good person who does nothing to help and improve on the wrongs of man is as guilty as the bad person himself. In my life I have seen time and time again the way people ignore the poor or name call people because of their race, age or ethnicity. Why do kids allow this, is it because they think it is cool when they hear their fellow classmates being made fun of and accused of crime they have not even committed? I have seen, read, and, heard of many coincidences where people let evil triumph over good, but I will first be talking about my life and how I let evil triumph over me. Then I will talk about how people ignored evil in history. After this, I will tie the quote in with what is happening today in the present world.
