Since 1869, leadership trait theories have been explored to determined what qualities make a good leader. Sir Fancis Galton explored the theory that genetic leadership characteristics were passed down from generation to generation (Manning and Curtis, 2015). Through continued exploration of leadership traits, it has been proven that these traits are not necessarily genetic, but are behavioral in nature, and can be taught. In review of the many leaders that have come into my life, both positive and negative, the leader that comes to mind that meets most of these criteria is my husband; Christopher Anderson. He found holes in communication and education that were instrumental in supporting the inspectors of the fire marshal's office. He met with other jurisdictions and created brochures and hosted seminars to introduce the fire code to businesses and department heads. Further, he developed a strong partnership with the building official. Together, they worked hand in hand to reduce conflicts amongst the building code and the fire code reviews; reducing animosity with business owners. Together, they joined a local and national initiative to align these codes and reduce conflicts. These relationships showed that the division had implemented a strong customer focus (Zenger and Folman, 2014). The one thing most important to Chris is his integrity. He constantly does the right thing when no one is looking. Chris is always striving to do the right thing when no one is looking. He is known for doing things the long way, if they are the most thorough, to ensure no holes are left in achieving his goal. He does not like for things to be overlooked because he took short-cuts.
