Lacrosse Shafts have evolved along with the game. Originally, players used sticks made of hickory wood that was heavy. But, industrialization has gotten us metal alloys, and even carbon fiber to use in the lacrosse shafts. These lightweight materials have had an enormous impact on the game to make it the game we know now. Let's see how it has impacted the game and what each new thing is capable of creating.
First, let's talk about length. In boys lacrosse, the defensemen are allowed longer poles known as “d-poles” while the short poles are known as “A/M poles” or “attack poles” for a good reason. The picture above shows the difference in length between the two, now let's talk about the reason behind the difference. SimplyLacrosse.com

wrote, “Attackmen will typically want a lacrosse stick that is as short as is legal or 30” shaft. The short light stick allows for the attacker to move quickly and to shoot and pass quickly. Defenders can use a stick up to 60" and for the defensive player over 5' tall most will choose the maximum length stick which gives them a defensive advantage over the attackmen with the short sticks.” The longer “d-pole” increases the range they have to stop the attacking players with stick and poke checks. The downfall to this is a loss of speed, which the attackers gain with a shorter pole. The are able to pass or shoot quicker, for the times when they do break free of the defenders range in a position to score. Their control is also benefited by the shorter length, as it is easier to feel the ball in the pocket and move it around as less room is needed. This explains why players chose to have short attack poles and longer defensive poles based off of the position on the field that they play. Video on Types of grips and Shapes of Lacrosse Sticks What helps keep your hands on the stick in bad weather?
This can be a big factor for some players. It all comes down to grip. Here's what the pros have said, “There are many different variations of grip now and players don't need to tape up their stick like a candy cane anymore so that they can get a grip they want. There are different variations of grip on the shaft - some have a sandpaper-ish feel, some have a rubberized type grip or there is the traditional smooth gloss-type grip.” (comlax.com). To explain this, companies have started to make new styles of grip and shape for players. This takes away the need of tape to get grip on the stick as the grip is already there instead of the original, smooth, and kind of grossly grip that people need to tape to help them control their sticks. You can still buy sticks that are like this, but it's important to understand that that you will probably need to tape your stick. Some sticks have grainy texture grip and different shapes meant to change the feel of your stick, allowing you to hold it a certain way that may make it feel smoother when doing stick moves, or just increase your ability to hold onto the stick better. There is no right or wrong with the grip on your stick, but having grip can lessen the cost of taping up your stick if you choose a glossy style. The best way to find what you want is to go to a shop or store that has a lot of shafts that you can hold in your hands and feel what it feels like. Do you like the way it feels, is it weird feeling or very comfortable. These are questions you ask yourself when looking at their grip and shape because you may not like what your friends like and what they tell you you should get, make sure you like it as that's more
important. Composite Vs Metal One of the most challenging things about deciding what stick you want can be deciding what material you want. Right now there are three materials that are used. The primary two are sticks made of metal alloys or the newer carbon fiber composite sticks. Some sticks are made of wood and are typically replicas of the old hickory wood sticks, and more of a conversation piece than gameplay stick. Here's what some pros suggest, “We believe that most advancing youth players will benefit from the light-weight consistency of metal shafts. Once you start to shoot over 80 MPH, its time to explore carbon and see if it fits your game. Most defensive players opt for the strength and stiffness of metal, but those who tend to bend a lot of metal poles will revert to carbon as it it does not bend, it only snaps.” (lax.com). Let me explain this further, many youth players should stick to metal alloy shafts as they are very durable at a very light weight and most youth players are unable to get use of the composite carbon sticks and their special feature, flexing, which adds power to their shot when utilized. This is explained by pros, “Essentially, the shaft flexes with the ball in the head when you start your shooting motion, and then this power is delivered into the speed of the release as the ball comes out. The good news is that with the right flex, you will shoot the ball harder, the bad news is that you may sacrifice some accuracy as the shaft snaps back.” (Lax.com). The ball does gain some speed from this which can make it extremely helpful for outside shooters like most middies. These players need to have the strength to utilize it, otherwise, they will gain very little power for their shot. The recommended time to switch is at 80 mph because that is when the flex is most efficient. Another use for carbon composites is a defender who is very hard on their shaft and is constantly denting or bending their shaft as the composite shaft flexes, and not bent out of shape. In other words the composite shaft is a great shaft for a power shooter or for someone who constantly dents or bends their shafts. To review, the length, shape, grip and type of material have a big impact on the game. Different positions have advantages based on length as it affects their reach and stick speed. The shape can change the feel of the shaft in your hands to something that is more comfortable or better hold. Grip can also impact the stick as it increases, or decreases, your ability to control the stick with speed, and even lessen the total weight. The material can also play an important role as as it the durability, power, and even the lifetime of the shaft. These are all things to consider when buying a new lacrosse stick. Remember, you should like the way it feels in your hands as you will be using it.
Lacrosse has progressed over the years from when it started as a religious practice by the Native Americans to the Canadians to the east coast to all around the world. The equipment, shoes, rules, and fields have changed in many different ways. The different ways that people can set up their defense and their offense is so broad that it is hard to describe. The original team set up was when the Indians played over expanses of 500 yard up to a mile. Then William George Beers created a club called the Montreal Lacrosse Club in eighteen fifty-six. Then about a decade later William George Beers produced a whole set of rules that included reducing the number of players to ten adding hitting penalties while also introducing a rubber ball and a new innovative plastic design for the lacrosse stick.
A kick point on a hockey stick can be a very important characteristic. It contributes to how low you can put your hand with the flex still having an impact.
Lacrosse is a sport that was created by the Native Americans around the 1600s (5). The sport once known as stick ball to the Indians has evolved to a major sport across the world. Lacrosse was a sport that was a real major part of European culture before it made its way to America. It has just recently been picked up in the major ranks of colleges and even a professional level. So with the rise of this sport comes the rise of the preparatory phases to get ready for competition.
The MLL stands for Major League Lacrosse. It’s what follows after college, same as the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc. The difference between the MLL and those big professional sports is that MLL players average salary is between $10,000 and $30,000 (Forbes). The other salaries all are over one million dollars for the average (Forbes/Wikipeida). People of course will be more familiar with basketball, baseball, or football. Lacrosse though, should be praised as much as those sports. That’s because MLL players don’t practice as much as the other sports but still compete at a very high skill level, the players have a burning passion for the sport, and the players have to be able to create chemistry with their players in one practice.

Both Lacrosse and Ice hockey are two sports that share similar aspects. One example would be that they both require plenty of athletic prowess, as well as countless hours of training and practice to master. The high amount of contact in both sports enables a player to become both physically and mentally “tough”. Lacrosse has grown to its highest level of popularity it has ever reached over the last ten years. Ice hockey has seen a steady climb in its popularity over the past 25 years making it one of the most popular sports in not only Long Island, but all across the U.S. However, there are many differences as well, and we should not overlook the fact that there are plenty of distinctions between the two great sports. Many of which are the main reasons that these are obviously two separate sports.
When you think of hockey, you would think of people getting in fights or skating. To even play hockey you need to skate well enough to protect yourself from other people. Theses skates are 2.9 mm or 0.115 inches thick, skating is more tiring than running and they require different muscles. You have to be tough enough to take hits, block shots, or someone hitting you with a hockey stick. The puck you play with is 1 in thick and 3 inches in diameter. You have to hit the puck with a hockey stick, the blade is 12.5
Lacrosse is a fast-growing American high school sport and becoming very successful within the past few decades, so it’s important to analyze how lacrosse has gotten to where it is today and what impacted the spread. The research question is: How has lacrosse changed over the years, and what impacted the spread? Research shows that lacrosse is becoming more popular every year, and many more people are becoming aware of this sport so the history behind what is known as ‘America’s first sport’ should be known. According to the National Federation of State High School, between 2009 and 2013, participation between high school boys and girls has increased for a total of 34%. Today, over 1400 high schools in the US include
The lacrosse players would go up to each other and smack at each other’s sticks trying to dislodge the ball. The French named the game lacrosse which means the game of the stick. Sometimes a player would hit an opposing team’s player, severely injuring the person or breaking bones. There is even one account of a player dying. Anthony Aveni an editor for History.org says, “It is quite common to see someone crippled for the rest of his life who would not have had this misfortune but for his own obstinacy” (paragraph 9). The Indians did not have a goal so they used landmarks such as rocks and trees for a goal. Jane Claydon, an editor for Federation of International Lacrosse claims, “Some estimates have mentioned between one hundred and one hundred thousand players…. On the field at one time” (paragraph 2). There are tons of players. The fields were very extreme ranging anywhere from nine hundred yards to nine miles in length. Players at one end could not see the ball at the other end. The game would last from sun up to sun down many

Louisville Slugger has impacted the evolution of the baseball bat by showing continued excellence through the years. They have shown this excellence by making changes to be current with the world. One change they have made is adding Maple bats into their product line even if they don’t agree with it. White Ash was the main source of what bats were made out of until Barry Bonds, in 2001, broke the single season home run record. His bat was made of Maple. Now the market is close to split on the type of bat sold. Both of the types of bats have positives and negatives. The positives of White ash are that it is a strong timber, it is lighter than Maple, and it has a flexible quality that Maple doesn’t have. The negative is that after extensive
Men’s lacrosse, as a goalie, and physics are tied together in many ways. You can explain the effectiveness of a pass, all the way down to picking up the ball from the ground. The main topics that explain the game of lacrosse are all three of Newton’s Laws of Motion; Inertia, Force equals mass times acceleration, and equal and opposite forces, and another law that applies, torque and leverage.

Cricket has always been a game dominated by batsmen and producing good bowlers is always a challenge, specifically spin bowlers. Spin bowling, that noble art of googlies, flippers, top spinners with the ball hissing from one direction to the other is more difficult than running in full steam a la Shoaib Akthar. The former is more about deceiving batsman with variations, loop and the dip rather than terrorizing the batsman with pace. Conventional wisdom sees spin bowling as an arrow which must be taken out of the quiver either in the dustbowls of the sub-continent or to contain the batsman. However, we are now seeing a change: captains have started recognizing spin bowling as more of a wicket taking option; the pitches are no longer 22 yards of concrete, rendering the contest between bat and ball a one-sided affair. Competitive pitches have started yielding results which has brought all the options into the game. Spin bowling by Indians over the last year and a half has far outstripped the ordinary fare we have witnessed over the last 4-5 years.
