Using Kinesio Tape Some years before, people used different types of sports tapes for treating the injuries. With the advent of kinesio tape, people started using this tape more commonly and the use of other sports tape decreased. The main reason was the result that kinesio tape produced was outstanding as compared to other tapes that people used before. It is a Japanese tape and is highly used as a pain relieving therapy. The popularity of the tape is judged in a way that almost all types of medical practitioner recommend this tape to the patients having muscular and joint pains. This taping technique is a bit different from the conventional taping techniques so acupuncturists, chiropractors, etc. suggest the use of this tape in case of injuries. The injuries are usually experienced due to over working or over using the specific part of the body. The body parts that usually undergo injuries are shoulders, arms, wrists, elbows, legs, knees, …show more content…
back, ankles etc. The conventional taping techniques were used to support the affected/ injured body part by restricting the movement of the body.
The traditional tape was rigid and had some side effects like swelling, redness, itching and sometimes resulted in skin allergies. But kinesio tape was free of all these side effects. The tape was basically created just to overcome these adverse effects from the use of the tape. The people were impressed from the results of the kinesio tape because it didn’t restrict the movement of the affected part not it caused any allergic reaction to the skin. It dramatically healed the injuries and reduced the inflammation and pain. The joints are given stability and the pressure on pain receptors is reduced so that it may give significant relief from pain. The tape is also famous for decreasing the numbness and sensitivity of the injured part. It is also comfortable because it is very soft and light in weight. When applied on the tissues and muscles, it does not give any feeling of disturbance or
irritation. The science of its working was to let the body heal naturally. The blood circulation was also not disturbed so it enhanced the physical performance of the body. When tape is applied on the skin, it gives a massage-like movement to the skin and moves the fluids away from an affected part. It also lifts the skin and helps in relaxing the injured tissues. The athletes are very fond of using this tape because it improves their sports performance. It gives strength to their body and improves the sportsmanship. The athletes are capable of performing for longer period of time and avoid serious damages. We described some important functions and uses of the kinesiology tape in this article now we will discuss some precautions that must be used before using the tape. Most important is the right application. The tape must not be stretched very hard and it must not be used on the wet skin. There must not be any oil, lotion or cream present on the skin; instead it must be purely dry. The application must be proper in order to achieve the good results.
That's basically it. A surgery that baseball players and fans have grown to appreciate, and one of the more scientific breakthroughs in modern sports medicine. And after doing this report I’m fascinated by the modern science and how a tendon in your wrist can be used as a ligament.

In spite of this the rate of ACL injury is almost equal through all levels of sports, from beginner, to recreational, to professional athletes. The most widely publicized incident of ACL damage has come from Theresa Edwards who was a top female athlete. She was a basketball player who went to the limit with sports. She went beyond her capability and her ligament couldn’t withstand the pressure and snapped. She is not the only but just one example of many who have suffered this same problem. As female athletes continue to become more competitive and aggressive, ACL damage continues to rise.
Studies have shown taping an ankle can limit range of motion if done correctly.1, 5 Another study done by Reut...
A survey was sent to 7,888, and 19.1% of the responses were used for this study. It concluded that almost all ATs either require or recommend their athletes wear ankle tape or braces. Most AT’s currently use tape because the up front cost of a brace is to much, and athletes usually prefer the tape over a brace. An overwhelming amount of ATs believe that ankle braces and taping significantly reduce the athletes risk for injury. Some main take-aways from this survey were that a majority of ATs either encourage or require ankle taping, and the majority of ATs favored bracing over taping to prevent injury, and that most ATs believe that ankle bracing and taping does not impact the athletes’ performance. In conclusion, a majority of ATs encourage some kind of ankle support, and this survey as well as other external evidence should be used when making healthcare
Also, it was stated that because of the elbow angle at foot stride and ball release that the shoulder joint was affected more so than at any other time. Finally, in order to understand why the injuries occur we should learn the joint ranges of motion so we can develop better preventive methods for injuries.
In 1973, Dr. Kenso Kase created Kinesiology Tape (KT-Tape) in order to reduce physiology effects such as pain, joint misalignment, and to further support the range of motion in muscles (Kase et al., 1998). Since then the fields of physical and alternative therapy have been using it to complement their patient’s exercise programs. This form of treatment has been found promising for sport injuries and musculoskeletal disorders, but also as treatment for side effects of cancer (Smykla, 2013). In addition, the tape’s popularity comes from the fact that it can be worn from one to four days before reapplication is needed.
Graston instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (GITSM) is a tool used by therapist and chiropractors to help break up the scar tissue and replace it with fibroblast allowing for faster recoveries (Black 2010). A series of heat, GISTM, then strength and flexibility training are required (Black 2010). Numerous studies have been conducted, by certified therapist qualified in GISTM, to examine the styles and recovery periods after an injury. After going through the treatment, patients are measured by their range of motion (ROM) to see if the treatments were effective or not (Black 2010). ROM can vary depending on the region of the body that is being treated, but the overall goal of GISTM is to allow a person to get back to their regular routines they had before their injury. A study conducted by Logan College of Chiropractic shows that plantar fasciitis (foot) can be treated by GISTM on the first day of treatment (Daniels and Morrell 2012). Another study by Duke University shows that GISTM can be effective for patients after surgery that had an injury in the Patellar tendon (knee) (Black 2010). After several treatments, GISTM can, also, be used to treat a compression fracture in the lumbar (back) (Papa 2012). Each study shows the method of GISTM, the patient’s recovery period along with the methods of recovery.
This reduces recovery time and may increase the rate of success due to fewer traumas to the connective tissue. And also, it has a small scar.
There are many injuries in general, but sports injuries? Sprains and Strains are the most common injuries in sports. “Sprains are injuries to ligaments, the tough bands connecting in a joint. Suddenly stretching ligaments past their limits deforms or tears them” (Hoffman 1). Ligaments are like springs in a sense that when you stretch a spring, it will return to it’s normal state unless they are

In order to understand how the menisci can be injured, you must understand the basic anatomy of the menisci and why they are important. The menisci are two oval (semilunar) fibrocartilages that deepen the articular facets of the tibia and cushion any stresses placed on the knee joint. They enhance the total stability of the knee, assist in the control of normal knee motion, and provide shock absorption against compression forces between the tibia and the femur (Booher, 2000). Articular cartilage covers the ends of the bones that make up the joint. The articular cartilage surface is a tough, very slick material that allows the surfaces to slide against one another without damage to either surface. This ability of the meniscus to spread out the force on the joint surfaces as we walk is important because it protects the articular cartilage from excessive forces occurring in any one area on the joint surface, leading to degeneration over time (Sutton, 1999).
It is a home exercise program that allows the patient to take an active part in their healing. Gently moving the soft tissue prepares it for the treatment it receives from the therapist. Time previously spent during the therapy session to initiate change in the tissues is used instead to advance further release and flexibility. The therapist is able to focus treatment time on stubborn areas of connective tissue restriction that have not changed in response to exercise. The positioning the patient uses to complete the exercises helps the therapist identify the source of the problem which is not usually in the same place as the patient’s primary complaint. This partnership between the therapist and the patient translates into quicker recovery and improved pain relief for the
I chose to analyze Despicable Me, an animated film geared towards a younger audience, because I was interested in examining underlying theories and messages that this film would be relaying to its viewers. Often times, when watching animated films, children are not aware of these messages, as they are absorbed by the characters, special effects, and humor. But as we have learned throughout this semester, our brains are subconsciously primed by the various surroundings we are exposed to. Since we also studied the impacts of entertainment, such as television and video games, on children, I wanted to see how a popular children’s film might also affect them.
In many cases, an injury is caused by a range of factors working together. For example, persistent back pain may be triggered by a combination of poor posture, being overweight, repetitive work-related activities and incorrect technique when playing sport. Exercise is the most widely used and best known type of physical therapy. Depending on the patient's condition, exercises may be performed by the patient alone or with the therapist's help, or with the therapist moving the patient's limbs. Exercise equipment for physical therapy could include an exercise table or mat, a stationary bicycle, walking aids, a wheelchair, practice stairs, parallel bars, and pulleys and weights. Heat treatment is used to stimulate the patient's circulation, relax muscles, and relieve pain. Cold treatment is applied with ice packs or cold-water soaking. Soaking in a whirlpool can ease muscle spasm pain and help strengthen movements. Massage aids circulation, helps the patient relax, relieves pain and muscle spasms, and reduces swelling. Very low strength electrical currents applied through the skin stimulate muscles and make them contract, helping paralyzed or weakened muscles respond again. (TheFreeDictionary.com,
