The value I chose, that I cherish most in my life is the value of kindness. Kindness is, “The quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.” (Google definition) As like anything in this world, there are positives and there are negatives when it comes to kindness. Kindness is such a positive word you would think there would be no drawbacks that come along with it but, there truly is. Positives of kindness, it makes yourself feel good to be kind as well it makes others feel good, this relates to the definition because if you are friendly, generous and considerate it shows you are a genuine person full of kindness. Getting out of a relationship that was toxic is an extreme drawback when it comes to kindness because it allowed another person to take advantage of me, as well as an example of how kindness attracts the wrong people. I care for people who have had a hard life, all I want is to give them the best because I believe everyone deserves a chance at having something positive in a negative situation. But I learned quickly you can be as kind as you can be and do everything in your power to give them something positive but if they are not committed to trying, they are careless and selfish you won't achieve that no matter what you do. Kindness allows you to be taken advantage of because you are just wanting to give everyone the best and people are always willing to just take, you try to look for the good in everyone and everything but the bad sometimes out powers the good. A quote that I think represents this is, “The only downfall of having a good heart is that you're constantly looking for angels inside of demons. And they wonder why the good know so much pain.” (pg 18. R.H Sin, Whiskey, Words and a Shovel, a good heart.) It attracts the wrong people, people who take advantage of others. This situation put me into a very negative state but I decided to do something positive, I took my anger and expressed it in a different way to get a positive outcome which, brought me happiness. I will use this value every day and even more so in the future when I get into the field of social working. I do not believe my value of kindness will be relinquished in any aspects of my life if anything it will be extended to more aspects of my life. As I continue to encounter them, this value will be most important to me when I become a social worker. It will be most important to me because I believe it will help me deal with difficult situations, using it as a coping method to handle difficult things I encounter as well as using it for every day to day task that is presented to me as a social worker. I believe this will add to my job, making it easier to understand and handle things. I know this value of kindness will continue to guide me to my future and will help my personal
