The Power of Kindness Kindness can be helpful in life and can make people very pleased. One can show it in many different ways. For instance, random acts of kindness may make a person’s day. Kindness has the power to make positive effects on lives. It leads to goodness in people, and it can accomplish self-happiness. Positive effects can be made in multiple amount of ways, but kindness has the power to do it as well. Being kind isn’t always the easiest thing to do depending on how a person’s day is going along, or if the person they are trying to talk to is being rude. For instance kindness can’t be faked, and certain people can tell when someone is being fake. They can tell in the person’s voice when they’re trying not to be rude. They …show more content…
People get the sense of relief when they do something correct or nice one day. Although not everybody is nice or kind, the kindness in people may bring the kindness out in others. This can be illustrated with the story “A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings”. Although there are some people that treat the old man poorly while he is kept in the chicken coop, there are some people that actually care for him, and do whatever they can to make his unplanned stay easier. As in, “tossing him things to eat through the opening of the wire…” (Marquez, 1) At first, there were only a few people interested in this unknown creature, but then the word started getting out, so everyone wanted to know the so-called angel and what he had to offer. As in, “The most unfortunate invalids on earth came in search of help: a poor woman who since childhood has been counting her heartbeats and had run out of numbers; a Portuguese man who couldn’t sleep because the noise of the stars disturbed him; a sleepwalker who got up at night to undo the things he had done while awake; and many others with less serious ailments.” (Marquez, 2) In “The Kindness of Strangers” an article written by Eliza Hecht, she explains the self-happiness she achieves by living in New York. She believes that she can always rely on the community to be there for her in her time in need. She believes that even with such cultural diversity, that is what brings the city together and makes it one big unit. As in, “...this crazy city is something we share, and love, and it knits us all together in a way nowhere else can.” (Hecht, 1) She asks people if they’re okay because she knows they’d do the same for her. They all rely on the goodness and acts of kindness from others to achieve self-happiness. As in, “I’ve learned that strangers still care. And I try to pay it forward.” (Hecht, 1) They are all so kind and willing to lend a helping hand when needed. She gives the
In a short story called, “Thank you ma’am”, the author is trying to convey the theme, or message, of the importance of showing random acts of kindness towards others to help institute change. Mrs.J show one act of kindness when she washes his face. Another when she makes Roger food at her house. Mrs.J is kind and shows multiple examples throughout the story.
Kindness can really make a difference in a person's attitude. In “A Christmas Carol”, the Cratchits and Scrooge's nephew Fred show kindness to Scrooge, even though Scrooge showed quite the opposite to them. Or in “Thank you M’am”, when Ms. Jones makes Roger food and gives him money to buy his shoes, instead of reporting him to the police. Even in “Little Things Are Big”, when Jesus decides to help people even if he has to face prejudism. These stories all show turning points, and these examples show
In a small town by a wintry sea, an ancient, decrepit man is found entrenched in the mud of a courtyard. This man, however, is not quite a man, for he happens to be in possession of a large pair of wings. In his pitiful condition how do the people of this town treat this possibly angelic creature? "... They found the whole neighborhood in front of the chicken coup having fun with the angel, without the slightest reverence, tossing him things to eat through the openings in the wire as if he weren't a supernatural creature, but a circus animal" (218-219). As is quite apparent, the villagers do not pay him any kindnesses. In fact, the driving force in "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" is the callous, cruel, and fickle nature of humanity.
“Sometimes it 's easy to walk by because we know we can 't change someone 's whole life in a single afternoon. But what we fail to realize it that simple kindness can go a long way toward encouraging someone who is stuck in a desolate place.” ~ Mike Yankoski
In “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings,” the angel appears seemingly out of nowhere and changes Pelayo and Elisenda’s life for the better. Despite being treated as no more than a pet, he provides them with enough money to build a luxurious house, Each member hides behind a different excuse to avoid doing any work. However, once Gregor was taken away from them, they were given the push they needed to stop making excuses and provide for themselves. Mr. Samsa went from a man who “could not be expected to do much” to a bank messenger, Mrs. Samsa changed from a woman who had no expectations in her life because of her asthma to a successful seamstress, and Grete’s life transformed from days spent “dressing herself nicely, sleeping long, helping in the housekeeping, going out to a few entertainments and above all playing the violin” to devoting herself to be a salesgirl, even spending her evenings practicing her shorthand and French to improve (482). These jobs were not just a way for them to make ends meet, but were “admirable and likely to lead to better things later on” (499-500).
The angel makes many mistakes with his miracles. However, the family that houses him, though they treat him as inferior, does have a turn of fate because of his existence. The angel brings them wealth when they charge admission to view him. For this family of three, life takes a better turn after giving the old man a chicken coop in which to sleep.
Like in the story “ A Very Old Man…” (Gabriel 1). What would have happened if the character were nice to the old man? For instance, there would be no story at all because they would have let him go on a raft and with food in the first place instead of seeing him as a way to make money. Also without the creature the family in the story would never have gotten the things the creature made possible. For example there two story house bought from the money of the people to see the angel, also maybe their child 's miracle of illness being gone after the angel 's appearance was not a coincidence. If it wasn 't, the child could have never gotten better. The old man’s kindness was the main importance to this story; without it, there would be

It's not about giving people things, but more so about one’s daily gestures and what one says to everyone each day. Being kind might be tough at times but in the end avoiding a rude comment is much better than saying one. There are so many ways to show others that being kind is important so don’t be afraid to try some out. Looking into it further, if everyone in the world was kind, we could avoid conflicts from small fights on the streets to world wars because everyone would be able to communicate and compromise with one another in a civilized
First, doing random of kindness gives me the positive thought, because I believe in karma, I am happy to help other who are in needed. I believe that I help other today with their problem, one day when I need help, there will be others who would help me back. On another hand, by being on the positive thought makes I feel calm when I try to

Kindness is most often defined as being nice, or doing service; although, to me, I think kindness has a lot more to do with whom you are and the way you think, rather
