I am visiting Kemah Boardwalk for the day; I came down from Central Texas to visit my friend, Astronaut Rex, at NASA. He recommended I visit the Boardwalk as it is a very nice tourist destination and it sits on the coast. Driving up to Kemah I see there is a very nice waterfront hotel that sits on, what I will call a plaza, it has restaurants around it and lots of entertainment. I see rollercoasters and I am very excited to be here, the view promises lots of fun for children and adults alike. I walk up and first thing I see is a band playing under a tent. The music is upbeat and it sets the mood for dancing. I see a few people bopping their heads to the beat of the music. I see others cheering the band. As I keep walking and reach a little pond where you can pay to drive little boats around, it’s a boating race! Lots of children are lined up on the edge, I see that I have to put two quarters in the machine that has a wheel and a number, the number corresponds to the boat you are controlling. I pay for my daughter to race her boat and the race begins. My daughter is winning she is jum...
Ten minutes after lining up, I went inside the nightclub. From the door, I could hear the song and the beat of the bass so loud that my heart could feel it. Inside the nightclub, I saw people were dancing everywhere, on dancing floor, on their own seats, everywhere. They would dance and take a big gulp of their beer. Even the bartenders were dancing too, following the rhythm of the loud funky music. The rainbow rays of light moved through the club to make the mood even more exciting and funky.

It was the summer of 2000 and I had moved in with my sister Jana in Santa
The first place that my group walked into was the newest edition to the resort. This new section was more of a family friendly area. This area consisted of an arcade, movie theater, laser tag zone, and bowling alley. I was surprised to see the amount of kids in the arcade on a Monday night. It wasn’t until later that night when we were about
The entire lot is packed to the brim and the streets lined with cars. All of the giant machines are glistening in the distance. Gaining ground brings the echoing of earsplitting, fear induced screams to the ear. As the entrance becomes visible a particular smell arises, that brings back wonderful memories. The carnival is always engulfed in the wonderful aroma of sizzling deep fried batter sprinkled with a sweet, snow like versions of sugar. Once a whiff of the succulent concoction known as a funnel cake has been inhaled the visibility of excitement begins to pour out and aura of anticipation start to become heavy. Walking through the gates into lights that begin to blind but they do so elegantly with a sparkling of all colors of the rainbow. After the eyes adjust it is time for a plan to be made. The questions that need to be addressed are: Where to go first? What to ride? So many choices make it insanely hard to decide so a gut decision is the only
I went to the bathroom and when I came back, I saw our luggage and grabbed it. Then, we had to get our passports stamped. We waited in line for what felt like a year and then we were at the front. The man who welcomed us was no older than 40. He was nice and quickly stamped our passports. He asked where we were from and if we were on vacation or visiting a relative. I dazed off and looked at the band playing and all the humongous statues throughout the area. Our journey was not over and we had to wait for a taxi. The company was named, Sheryl's Taxi. The lady who greeted us immediately knew why were here. She said," Greetings, and welcome to Nassau! Let me guess... You are here for the gymnastics thing." We were kind of shocked and then I realized the competitors probably all took this taxi. I got into the white van like vehicle and took a seat. We all had a big seat to ourselves. We were almost at Paradise Island. It was weird having the driver sit on the right side of the car, while other drivers sat on the left. It was strange. My dad explained that the cars were probably from England and was interrupted by the driver, "Attention passengers I am your driver and your tour guide as I take you to Paradise Island." He went on and explained the views and hotels. I was amazed when I saw three whopping cruise ships tower over the little buildings. My favorite sight was the back of a Carnival cruise ship. A red and blue tail
One boy juggles three grey tennis balls while the other somersaults between the juggler?s legs and then jumps to his feet smiling and clapping his hands between the flying balls in a comic attempt to distract his partner. The acrobat climbs atop the juggler?s shoulders, and one by one intercepts the balls until he is now the juggler, though he lacks the control of his partner. A ball falls to the ground before the light turns green, and the boy leaps off his partner?s shoulders and scrambles to fetch it. Despite the error, the boys still grin and take a bow. A lady in a fuming Mazda lets a wrinkled bill flutter out her window, and the boys pounce on the money before it PAQUETE - 3 - floats away. While jugglers and acrobats are entertaining, Paco dreams one day of pouring gasoline in his mouth and spitting it over a lighter?s flame, producing a glamorous fireball. These teenage fire-spitters are magnificent like dragons and inspire the most awe?and tips?from spectators. There are other performers Paco admires, like this toothless man sitting on the bench playing his rondador. He blows out a familiar tune? El Chulla Quite?o. It?s the only song he ever plays, but people don?t seem to notice or
As we pulled out of my parents driveway, the circumstances seemed very surreal. My entire way of life had been turned upside down with only a few hours consideration. I was very much “at sea” in the ...
The landform of the current Thousand Islands National Park was created in two stages; the folding of the Frontenac Axis which created an ancient mountain range which is an extension of the Canadian Shield to the Adirondack Mountains in New York, and the continental glaciation erosion that scraped and rounded the tops of the mountain range. During the receding of the glacier, a channel was carved out to the Great Lakes basin, where the dammed water and meltwater of the glacier filled the channel now known as the St. Lawrence River. The channels and paths between the eroded tops of the mountain range, which at the time formed a rolling landscape, were flooded with the travelling river, forming what we now call the St. Lawrence River.
...re are fifty boats in our race, and we got third, now that's not too bad for a busted fin." This did not seem to help, however, as there was no apparent response. "I don't know about you all, but after this, it just makes me want to bust by butt during the off-season to come back here in the Spring and kill them all!" Slowly, but surely, everyone's heads raised. I realized that this was not the end at all. We made a pact to work our hardest to come back in the Spring and win out as much as possible. As the commotion settled, Chris quieted us down, "Okay, come on guys." He put his hand in the middle of the circle. We all followed his lead. "We will not let an unfortunate accident get in our way! We will not settle for third place!" With that we all threw our hands up into the air. I looked around and smelled the breeze. Suddenly it was the best feeling in the world.
So after the Hockey Hall of Fame trip, we had to go out to eat and decided on the Hard Rock Café, it seemed like a cool place. We ate and talked, well more like yelled because you could hear us from the other side of the café, enjoyed ourselves; almost not even realizing that we had to pay for that amazing food, like it was free or something. We finished dinner, the parents paid, and we were antsy to get back to the hotel, play, swim and hang out. When we went outside, we saw something, or someone, who some of the younger kids have never actually seen
So here I am not wanting to go on the roller coaster with my cousin. Now that I’m in line I wanted to go back home and forget her but I didn’t. It would of been horrible to say no to her when 5 year olds are riding it too. Now let me tell you what happens on the roller coaster.
I pulled anchor and off we glided, gleaming gold smoke trailing behind. The sky was eye-achingly blue, and the sea a pane of glass spreading endlessly before us. For a time, I lost myself in the pleasant rhythm of the paddle wheel’s flat blades lapping at the water. The Captain sat watching me from the bow, while Mason and the Kidd lazed in the copper sunshine sipping limeade and playing crazy eights. Gypsy whistled and waltzed with a broom around the deck.
Rolling waves gently brushed upon the sand and nipped softly at my toes. I gazed out into the oblivion of blue hue that lay before me. I stared hopefully at sun-filled sky, but I couldn’t help but wonder how I was going to get through the day. Honestly, I never thought in a million years that my daughter and I would be homeless. Oh, how I yearned for our house in the suburbs. A pain wrenched at my heart when I was once reminded again of my beloved husband, Peter. I missed him so much and couldn’t help but ask God why he was taken from us. Living underneath Pier 14 was no life for Emily and me. I had to get us out of here and back on our feet. My stomach moaned angrily. I needed to somehow find food for us, but how? Suddenly, something slimy brushed up against my leg and pierced my thoughts. I jumped back and brushed the residue of sand of my legs. What was that? As my eyes skimmed the water in front of me, I noticed something spinning in the foam of the waves. Curiosity got the best of me and I went over to take a closer look. The object danced in the waves and eventually was coughed out onto the beach. “Emily!” I called to my eight-year-old daughter who was, at that time, infatuated with a seashell that she found earlier that day. “Come here and see this! Mommy found something.” Although I had no idea what that something was and I definitely didn’t know it would change my life forever.
