When I was watching the movie “Hidden Figures” I saw the character Katherine Johnson really changed a lot. She went from a somewhat shy and hesitant woman to a brave and powerful woman. This character really showed woman that anything can be achieved if you work hard enough. Hidden Figures was a great movie and I believe that it goes beyond the context to tell a greater story. You see a change in all the characters throughout the movie, all of them for the better. Hidden Figures is about these three African-American women who work at NASA. They are all exceptionally smart but while being black in the 1960’s it was not easy for their voice to be heard. They had to work extra hard to show that they deserved to be there. Katherine Johnson was the “computer” she could crunch any numbers that were placed in front of her. Dorothy Vaughan was very good with mechanics. She later figured out how to run the IPM and supervised the people to work with it. Mary Jackson became the first ever woman African-American engineer at NASA. All of these woman had major character changes in the end of the movie. I saw Katherine Johnson as brave, hesitant, wise, modest, and independent. These are some of the words that I circled that best describe her. I believe that Katherine thought of herself as many of the same qualities, but living in segregated America it was difficult for her to stand up for herself. Reflected Appraisal is how people think of themselves in the way they believe others think of them. I believe that Katherine thought other people that she worked with and that she interacted with saw her as a shy girl who did what she had to do to keep her job. When someone asked her to do something she did it without hesitant.
