In September 2015, the Kardashian/ Jenner sisters launched personalized mobile phone applications and websites. This essay will analyse the authenticity of the Kardashian/ Jenner sister’s intentions, strategy and beliefs behind their apps and websites, but also the genuineness of their fame and fans. Furthermore, reference will be made to Gilmore and Pine’s summations of ‘authenticity’.
The Kardashian family have never been far from the spotlight, but mainstream media attention “first graced a Kardashian in 1994, when family patriarch Robert Kardashian served as part of O. J. Simpson’s defense team” (Pfefferman, 2013, p. 83). Now considered ‘the most famous sister’, Kim herself “entered the public eye in 2007, gaining notoriety with a home-made

19), however, “hating the Kardashians has become a popular pastime” (Thomas, 2015) creating “ostensible media backlash and paradoxical popularity” (McClain, 2013, p. 12). Despite the ongoing criticism, Kim “seems to have been able to turn her reality stardom into an A-list affair” (McKay, 2010) and dragging her family along with her. This is partly due to her marriage to Kanye West, but also, her association with high end brands, like Vogue, W Magazine, Balmain and so on. Kemshal-Bell notes that “it is hard to ignore the merging, or perhaps the disbanding, of the hi-lo cultures” (2015) because of the many collaborations that are taking place. This perhaps shows us the family’s “unscrupulous resourcefulness” (Pfefferman, 2013, p. 88) and focused business …show more content…
Although, a fan’s perchase of this subscription does enable them “to dwell authenticially in the moment of his choice” and “further to commemoratively retain the past (via purchases)” (Gilmore & Pine, 2007, p. 92). in spite of this, some people would discuss that being opportunistic and trying to capitalize on almost everything is authentic to the Kardashians. Even Gilmore and Pine insist that “Any champions of authenticity should embrace the spirit and practice of capitalism” (Gilmore & Pine, 2007, p. 92) as we live in a fundamentally capitalistic society.
Some would argue that the family consists of powerful, independent business women who have simply taken advantage of their situation. And many deem authenticity as “being true to oneself” (Gilmore & Pine, 2007, p. 90).
Despite the fact that the sisters wear a lot of makeup, especially Kim and Kylie, they post makeup tutorials to their apps and websites. In these tutorials we see their ‘authentic’ bare faces at the beginning. So the public knows that they do not really look the ways that they appear in

Not only did the young ladies need to dress elegantly to obtain a wealthy husband, they also had to have appropriate manners. Mrs. Hammond, after the death of her husband, devoted her life to educating her daughters in how they are to properly conduct themselves. Her reasoning for this was a typical one: to make others believe they were an established family of wealth.
For this assignment I choose Kylie Jenner. She is constantly in the Public eye and her family is well known around the world also. The Kardashian-Jenner family is always a fascination to the public. Since the beginning of time itself, Television has been one the most influential pieces of media that the world has ever encountered. The beginning days of television depicted stereotypical mothers cooking and cleaning their homes for their husbands and children. Yet, as the decades passed, television took a dramatic turn, leaving the days of drama free entertainment as a vast memory. Now a day, however, when one hits the power on button to Bravo, the screen lights expand to ritzy socialites dealing with their everyday lives as “housewives”. Bravo TV’s hit number one reality television show, The Real Housewives of Atlanta, deals with the everyday lives of modern-day housewives. When speaking of these women and their family life, the reality series shows its viewers that family life in modern times is dramatic, full of misrepresentations of how people are perceived, and that fame comes at the cost of family.
'I think that there's the Kim Kardashian brand and the Kardashian brand. I think they blend together, but I have different qualities or interests that my sisters might not be so into.' However annoying it may be there is no doubt that 'brand Kardashian' is extremely successful.

The deception of media consumers allows for the abuse of economic infrastructures of society. An obsession with celebrities’ lives passifies ordinary people in accepting the stratification of the elite businesses and the ordinary citizens. Though pseudo-events and celebrity worship may not be exactly complementary, the similarities of both leaves the public to be utterly vulnerable unless they begin to critically think for themselves.
The public has been revolutionary to have access into celebrities’ private life thanks to the “paparazzi”. Definitely, celebrities will always be in front of the camera. It comes with the frame. Nevertheless, it does not justify photographing and the lives of people at the expanse of their privacy.

Retailers are constantly breathing behind consumer’s necks to persuade the individual that their brand is the best. In a result, these retailers are hoping the shopper will give in, buy the product(s), tell another friend about the brand, and push them to buy/show off the name. It is an ongoing and viscous cycle for individuals to keep their self-image updated with society. Moreover, the pressure to be accepted by others is influenced by buying a name brand item to avoid a negative response from peers. Jim Guest, author of Consumers and Consumerism in America Today, explains “In the current economic climate, consumers are constantly pressured to buy expensive, often unnecessary products and serves, and to live beyond their means” (148). A major reason for the overconsumption of brands are due to the popularity of brand ambassadors. As consumerism continues to grow, companies are becoming smarter and smarter; they will hire celebrities to endorse their brands and create an image of superiority for others to follow. To name a few examples, LeBron James, a professional basketball player, is endorsed by Nike; Carl’s Jr., a famous fast food chain, displays ads with beautiful models in bikinis eating their burgers; Kim Kardashian, a famous celebrity and fashion mogul, has endorsed Skechers sneakers. These are a few big named celebrities that
