In 2001, Julia Roberts won her first, and only Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in Erin Brockovich. That year, Academy Awards producer Gil Cates, promised a giant, HD flat-screen TV to the winner with the shortest acceptance speech. Julia Roberts already had a TV and did not care to make her speech short. During her speech she also mentioned her dress and adjusted the train of it (Academy Awards Acceptance Speech Database). What was she wearing? A beautiful, black and white, Valentino Haute Couture dress from his 1982 collection, dedicated to movie stars. It was a gorgeous velvet-and-satin vintage gown.
