According to an article titled “Marilyn Monroe” on biography.com- Marilyn Monroe was born on July 1,1926 in Los Angeles, California as Norma-Jeane Mortensen to her mother Gladys. Monroe never knew her father or who he was and had only one sibling: a half sister that she only met a handful of times. Gladys developed psychiatric problems when Monroe was little and was placed in a mental institution, which left Monroe with no family and she had to spend much of her childhood in foster care and in orphanages where she was sexually assaulted on several occasions. east coast and they could not afford to take her with them, which followed in her getting put back into foster care. The article doesn't really talk about how she felt about her mom trying to smother her or about the Goddards not being able to take her with them but I can imagine that she was devastated, her mother tried to kill her and the people who had came in and became her family weren't going to be there anymore. After being placed back in foster care Monroe realized that there was a way out- to get married. So on June 19,1942 at the age of 16 she married her neighbor, a merchant marine named Jimmy Dougherty, who was later sent to the south pacific. With Jimmy gone Monroe had to work to keep the bills paid so she went to work in a munitions factory in Burbank,California. She was discovered by a photographer while she was working in the factory. She had a successful modelling career by 1946,when her husband returned and she had changed her name from Norma-Jeane Mortensen to Marilyn Monroe. (Biography.com) On marilynmonroe.com it also says that within months after the photographer took a snapshot of her in the factory she became a successful model doing dozens of magazine covers and a screentest with 20th Century Fox. The studio executives, directors and photographers immediately saw the ability she had to capture and hold the attention of anyone on the other side of the camera lens. By the end of 1946 her hair was a platinum shade of blonde. In the article “Marilyn Monroe Remebered in 9 ways” on biography.com it says that In 1953 Hugh Hefner who was then unknown, came across and bought her nude pictures, making her the very first centerfold playmate and putting Playboy Magazine on the map.Hugh says that although he never dated her, that he would have and he also says that they might not have been close in life, they will however, be close in death because he chose the vault next to hers at the westwood village memorial park.
“I will be laid to rest in a vault next to hers. It has a completion notion to it. I will be spending the rest of my eternity with Marilyn.”

However the life of the movie star was cut short when she died at age 36 from an acute barbiturate poisoning. It was suspected that Marilyn took her own life, however she could have just as easily been taken out by the Kennedy family to prevent her from spilling all the dirty secrets she knew because of her alleged affairs with John and Robert Kennedy. The death of Marilyn Monroe is one of the most famous, unsolved murders of all time. Her death certificate claims that on the night of August 4th, 1962 Marilyn Monroe killed herself from a drug overdose in her home in Los Angeles, California. Although some might say that the drug overdose is the only possible reason of her passing, other might say that theories such as the CIA killed Marilyn Monroe makes more sense. Marilyn Monroe is an icon that is idolized by many and had a great impact on pop culture. She didn’t have the best childhood and had a lot of up and downs in her life. Marilyn Monroe was born in California in 1926. She was named Norma Jeane Mortenson after a popular actress at the time. Her mother Gladys Baker was mentally ill, so she had to put Monroe in foster care. She lived in a foster home until she was seven years old. She had two other siblings from her mother’s first marriage. She never met them because her mom’s first husband took them to live with him in Kentucky.
Marilyn Monroe, Norma Jeane Mortenson. A devious soul but a pure heart, a black past, but a bright future; she became one of the most idolized figures in society. Norma was definitely not born with a silver spoon in her mouth, and she never sugar coated her life to the media. She was straight forward which made her heavily known for her quotes such as “I learned to walk as a baby and I haven’t had a lesson since.” (Marilyn Monroe). This was the beginning to her life story as a hero. This may not seem inspiring or heroic to many by the lack of knowledge a person may have on Norma. In the depths of her quotes lay a deep, heartfelt life though. For this quote may seem sensational and comical to the ear, but Marilyn was transferred to many foster homes not really having a parent that would show her the way. What a good role model would do though, and what Norma courageously has shown society, is that when life knocks you down, get up and hit life back twice as hard. Norma Jeane Mortenson, married Jim Dougherty, and started working. Soon she created the character Marilyn Monroe, she dyed her hair blonde, wore short dresses, and she became the momentous and inspirational character that everyone saw through television, newspapers, and photos. She was one of the greatest actors, singers, and models of the nineteen forties and fifties. But like every hero they suffer and create their own demise. Jeane, Marilyn Monroe, is a shakespearean tragic hero, because like every hero she must fall.

Monroe was so alone that even death would’ve been welcomed with open arms. This technique is the epitome of loneliness and even has a sense of irony in that she would only find peace on dying. Morgan’s aim to make the reader realise how awful it must’ve been for her if the only security she could receive was from her own demise. [refer to task]

Marilyn Monroe was a deeply troubled woman and I believe that in applying a Psychoanalytic Perspective to her life, the first theorist that comes to mind is Erik Erickson and his stage theory of personality. In applying his theory we see that we can assess Marilyn’s personality through Erickson’s psychosocial stages of “Identity vs. Role Confusion” and “Intimacy vs. Isolation” (Friedman & Schustack 133-134). Marilyn’s childhood, the most critical time in any child’s life when any and all relationships are crucial to their healthy development proved to be the catalyst for her later problems in life as evident by the lack of any solid and
