Journey to My Philosophy of Nursing
After being a nurse for almost three years, I have reached to the conclusion that the nursing profession is like a journey that for some can be beautiful and challenging, for others, can be very difficult and unpleasant. A true nurse needs to have compassion, and the real need to help others not mattering the culture, sex, or race. Unfortunately, that is not always the case and it is there when I feel that I made the right decision when I choose to become a nurse taking this challenging journey.
Choice of Nursing
Choosing nursing for me was like a call that I felt deep inside after many years working at Parkland Memorial Hospital as a Medical Interpreter for Spanish speaking patients. I really loved working as an interpreter, and being able to help people when needed the most. Most of the time I felt rewarded with the job and also being able to learn about medical conditions that I did not know that existed. However, I felt that I needed it to do more for the people and I did not only want it to help Spanish speaking people, but I want it to be able to help everybody.
That was one of my main reasons, the other reason was that I noticed certain nurses and medical providers that did not enjoy doing their jobs, and they were in the nursing or medical profession for the wrong reasons like money or because of job security. I had many disappointment experiences while I was an interpreter, and this made me realize that I was in the right direction to take the decision in becoming a nurse. I felt that I would be an advocate for my patients, I would treat them with respect not matter what, and I would protect them from bad providers. So far, I have not regretted becoming a nurse because I am always ...

...power, hopefully these will help me to achieve my goals. I really want to be able to serve people in a better way and make a difference in their care.
I would say that one of my limitations to achieve my professional goals would be time. I have other responsibilities that can be time consuming and I have to find the perfect way to synchronize studies and other activities. Another reason could be money, since the classes are expensive and some hospitals do not reimburse you and I do not like to ask for loans, so I have to save money for the future. In the end, I think that any effort I have to make to accomplish this journey, will help me to develop my philosophy of nursing and will be worth it.
