There are many different reasons why I decided to continue my education in the nursing program to become in the future, an RPN. To begin with, my passion for the medical field started when I was in high school. After doing a placement in my local clinic I decided that nursing was the ideal job for me since I love helping people out. To add to my reasoning, seeing some of my family members sick made me admire the work the nurses were doing for them. This eventually made me want to have this affect on other families that were living with the same things I had gone through. Lastly, I’m someone very social that needs to work with public. With this said, I needed a job that I would be able to work with young children, but also with elderly people
and nursing fits exactly in those criteria. To conclude, nursing is definitely the perfect career for myself and I hope that one day, a family member of someone I help admires my work the way I did admired nurses when I was young.
As and LPN, I was motivated to become an RN in part because of my desire to extent my education in the field of nursing, increased my skills level as well as my financial stability since RN earns more than LPN and often time the demand for RN in the field of nursing is greater.
I have always had a passion for nursing. As a child, I watched my mother getting up early, putting her scrubs on and headed out the door for a 12 hour shift. She was always content, and at ease to go for a long shift and even overtime at times. I love the fact that after work, she would always come home, satisfied with the day no matter how hard it was for her. She would sit and tell my brothers and sisters how she enjoyed the conversations that she had with her patients and what impact she had on their lives that day. Listening to these stories as a child, I knew that I wanted to become a nurse and listening to the same stories and helping people, making their day feel better. I wanted to follow my mom’s footsteps. At the end of a long shift, it is a rewarding profession, knowing that I am saving people’s lives, making them comfortable when they are near of dying, advocate and teaching them. As nurses, we care for patients through illness, injury, aging, health. We also promote health, prevent diseases and teaching the community; that’s what I love about nursing. Growing up, I have always wanted to be a part of the healthcare field, but I never knew exactly what job I wanted to take part in, until I discovered how broad a nurse’s specialty could be. A Registered Nurse can work in any age group or focus on a certain system of the body. My mother works in the health field as a medical transcriptionist. I became interested in the health field by her many stories she shared with me while she worked in the hospital. She taught me a lot of different things. My family history inspired me as well to join the medical field. My grandma and great grandma both suffered from breast cancer and my grandpa suffered from throat cancer. A career in the medical field is always evolving, and always needing more hands. I knew from a young age that helping people is what I was meant to do, and from then on out every step I took was the way to a successful career in nursing. It is a profession that allows you to see people at their worst, all while helping them become their best. The most important task for nursing students is to create a clear pathway for our education, and to be sure to follow that plan accordingly. When choosing this career, I had to access my own strengths and weaknesses and really establish clear goals for myself and evaluate if I had what it takes to be a part of this diverse and skilled profession. Being a professional nurse opens your world up to meeting many different people, all from different cultures and backgrounds. Every day people you would never have met, if not for this career will enter your professional life, and I will get to do my part and make a difference in their lives. Bringing me to my second reason; I don’t think there is anything greater than being able to change and better the lives of the people around me.
