Bryan Fan 04/17/24 Final Expo Essay 8th ELA. Cooking is easy. Yes, it is, too. It's just throwing ingredients in a pot, baking it, frying it, you get the idea. Well maybe it isn't all that it seems. Joshua Weissman, a renowned author and chef, claims that having a good foundation is key to being a good cook. By nailing down the fundamentals, it's easier to attack, harder to make dishes that require precision and technique. Joshua has been honing his culinary skills for the past 20 years, and many people regard him as one of the best chefs out there. He has worked in some of the most prestigious restaurants and has a passion for sharing this love of cooking with others. Joshua also has big plans for the future, with a new restaurant in the …show more content…
He saw the way his parents were cooking and developed a keen interest in cooking. During his childhood, Joshua spent lots of time in the kitchen, experimenting and making dishes. Joshua’s parents had a bit of an unorthodox way of nurturing their child. They always encouraged Joshua to explore new things and to try hobbies, but they understood Joshua’s passion for cooking. While neither of his parents worked in the food industry, they had many recipes that were passed down from generation to generation in the family. Joshua’s parents taught him the skills required to succeed in the kitchen and ways to implement new flavors into his dishes. Still to this day, Joshua credits his parents as one of his major inspirations for cooking. Joshua’s environment also contributed to his passion. Weissman grew up in Austin, where the food scene was very diverse and approachable. As he said in an interview with Austin Lifestyle “The food scene is underrated and overrated at the same time but in a good way. I love the people in this city, they’re creative, free-thinking and while also having a work ethic.” (Austin Lifestyle) Joshua loved the way Austin incorporated all these different types of cuisines and

Richard Rodriguez uses many rhetorical strategies in his essay, “Aria: Memoirs of a Bilingual Childhood” to convey the differences between his native Spanish and the English spoken around him. Diction, pathos and anecdote elucidate the differences between native English speakers and his parents, effectively giving the reader a clear impression of how Rodriguez experiences life as a bilingual child.
In conclusion, Julia Child’s experiences display all that can be done when people do not give up. Although she was often excluded in her cooking classes, she did not quit. Creating a French cookbook for Americans was not an easy task either, but she did not back down. Trying to publish her cookbook and having to deny requests from their original publisher was definitely painful. But, her thick skin, endurance, and principle all payed off when the first edition of Mastering the Art of French Cooking finally hit the shelves.
Joshua Rothman, once presented a paper in academic circles, that although was generally well received, was criticized for not having the style of an academic paper. This article outlines concerns that surround professoriate’s unique style of writing not judged by ordinary standards – “It’s supposed to be dry but also clever; faceless but also persuasive; clear but also completist.” (Rothman). Academics tend to exclusively appeal to “very small groups of people such as departmental colleagues, journal and book editors, tenure committees”(Rothman) as opposed to journalists who appeal to greater audiences.
Known as the richest man on Earth, Mansa Musa took the famous pilgrimage to the Muslim holy city, Mecca, from his empire, Mali. The journey required trained men as well as skill to protect the king. The pilgrimage proved important to Mali’s great wealth as well as increased awareness to the world of the great kingdom of Mali. Mansa Musa positively and negatively changed the empires he traversed.
Mansa Musa, the 10th ruler of Mali Empire, is known as the worlds’ richest person of all time. Mali Empire was originally a Mandinka kingdom that had prospered in West Africa during the 14th century. In ancient African Empire, the word “Mansa” means king or ruler. Mansa Musa was a Muslim traditionalist in the same way as other Malian kings. His incredibly astounding pilgrimage to the land known as Mecca, the holiest city in the Islamic world, is one of the most legendary stories in African history that has been told. By the end of his journey, he had left a great impact on the whole European Muslims and became the most well known African king; not only within his lands but to the world outside. Historians believed Mali Empire met the golden
Application of Smith's Main Thesis. James K. A. Smith's main thesis in many of his works, particularly in "Desiring the Kingdom" and "You Are What You Love," is that humans are primarily desiring beings shaped by liturgies or habits. These liturgies are the routines and rituals that form our love and, consequently, our identity. Family: Smith argues that family life is a fundamental liturgical space where habits and routines shape our desires and loves.
The Kitchen of Life In my life, the kitchen has always been a crucial part of my household. It is the soul and lifeline of my home and has brought my family together through our love for warm and delicious food. Learning how to cook from my father, I harnessed my love for the kitchen and shared my meals with the people I cared for the most. Although it isn’t something I get to do often, cooking is something I want to improve on in the future because of the important role it plays in my life. As I grow up and come of age, I see my journey as a kitchen and its various characteristics.
The 'gray zone' is best understood conceptually as a modern strategy of coercion which is ambiguous and unconventional in nature. Gray zone strategy is the employment of non-military tools of statecraft or unconventional, non-confrontational use of military forces to achieve political objectives without escalating any conflicts to the point of traditional military warfare. It is reflective and defining of three modern political trends within the current international order: the transformative intentions of persistent revisionist powers; the deployment of phased and incremental tactics to amend elements of the international order; and the use of unconventional tools of statecraft to gain a strategic objective that lies between peace and conventional
One of the world’s greatest chefs was named Georges Auguste Escoffier. He was known as the king of chefs and the chefs of kings. He was one of the greatest chefs of his century. He solely had a passion for cooking and for the people he was cooking for. If you ask me, that is very rare to find these days.
When I first learned to cook about six years ago, there were no magazine articles or books in bookstores explaining how to cook; there were only cookbooks with recipes for one to decipher. Today, the articles and books that explain how to cook are minimal. Not everyone can compete with Julia Child in cooking gourmet food with the menu devised in our minds without referring to cookbooks, but many of us can learn to cook effectively. A step-by-step process should be followed to learn how to cook successfully.
ARTS 2 What would it be like to be in an adrenaline filled kitchen, full of passionate chefs all striving to complete that “perfect dish?” This paper will inform you what it means to truly be a chef, and all the hardships that come with it. Along with the hardships comes many fruitful outcomes, and that is what strives the passion for many aspiring chefs. The requirements to become what is commonly known as a “chef,” are pretty basic.
The United States Department of Labor states that “Employment of chefs and head cooks is projected to grow 9 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations.” This statistic reveals that many people want to be chefs and that more chefs are needed in the world. To be a successful chef, a few things that a person may need to evaluate is how he or she can attend a school. You must also realize what you have to do before culinary school; and what type of chef you want to be. Thinking about obstacles that you may have with money is something to think about as well .
Good cooking doesn’t always come naturally, but when skill’s and/or talents are perfected strengths such as cooking can become fun or even a hobby. Good cooking is something that takes time and skill and good cooking can’t be rushed otherwise the food does not come out the way it is supposed to. Another key factor of good cooking is to always know what is going on and what the next step in the process is.
It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to be a chef. However, if one has a passion for cooking it will pay off. I am a creative person and cooking has endless possibilities of creativity, such as the way you make it and the way you plate it. I want to become a chef and hopefully open a restaurant one day. To do that, you need to learn the basic skills. Julia Child once said, “No one is born a great cook, one learns by doing.”
