Bryan Fan 04/17/24 Final Expo Essay 8th ELA. Cooking is easy. Yes, it is, too. It's just throwing ingredients in a pot, baking it, frying it, you get the idea. Well maybe it isn't all that it seems. Joshua Weissman, a renowned author and chef, claims that having a good foundation is key to being a good cook. By nailing down the fundamentals, it's easier to attack, harder to make dishes that require precision and technique. Joshua has been honing his culinary skills for the past 20 years, and many people regard him as one of the best chefs out there. He has worked in some of the most prestigious restaurants and has a passion for sharing this love of cooking with others. He saw the way his parents were cooking and developed a keen interest in cooking. During his childhood, Joshua spent lots of time in the kitchen, experimenting and making dishes. Joshua’s parents had a bit of an unorthodox way of nurturing their child. They always encouraged Joshua to explore new things and to try hobbies, but they understood Joshua’s passion for cooking. While neither of his parents worked in the food industry, they had many recipes that were passed down from generation to generation in the family. Joshua’s parents taught him the skills required to succeed in the kitchen and ways to implement new flavors into his dishes. Still to this day, Joshua credits his parents as one of his major inspirations for cooking. Joshua’s environment also contributed to his passion. Weissman grew up in Austin, where the food scene was very diverse and approachable. As he said in an interview with Austin Lifestyle “The food scene is underrated and overrated at the same time but in a good way.
