CAH needs to add value to be able get more patients that will increase the profits for CAH. One way for CAH to add value would be to focus on disease management. Take diabetes, the patient would see a primary care doctor, got to an optometrist and get their labs done together and the providers would communicate with each other to make sure the patient is getting the care they need. The primary care doctor could make sure that the patients are reminded of when their next appointments are. Using web-based health also would help to add value ("Capturing the Value from Value-Added Services"). The Veterans Affairs Administration uses a web-based health notification system to allow patients to know what their lab results are and to refill prescriptions from their home that would then be mailed to
“Hospitals today are growing into mighty edifices in brick, stone, glass and marble. Many of them maintain large staffs, they use the best equipment that science can devise, they utilize the most modern methods in devoting themselves to the noblest purpose of man, that of helping’s one’s stricken brother. But they do all this on a business basis, submitting invoices for services rendered.”

is a teaching hospital and a Federally Qualified Health Center. There is evidence of C.C.H. being a teaching hospital right from the beginning of the book. The book starts with Dr. Ansell just finishing his time in medical school at Syracuse and him and his friends look to get placed in a hospital for residency. They decided to choose C.C.H. from the beginning for they felt it was the right choice and that this hospital needed change. Throughout Dr. Ansell’s residency many tough challenges faced him for he realized that he had to learn many things by himself. When facing all the hard challenges none was as inspiring to Dr. Ansell as the one he faced when he was seeing one of his first ever patients who refused care from him because he was a “little white boy” who didn’t look the part of the doctor. Dr. Ansell stated that “If I did one thing during my time here, it would be to learn to be the best possible doctor for my patients”. The teaching hospital that C.C.H. was is something that inspired many doctors and it really opened eyes for many doctors to really love their profession and teach them to become the best possible doctor, for it was not an easy hospital to learn
Zuger’s point-by-point organization emphasizes the difference between one medical student with older traditional values, and another medical student who embodies the modern hospital standards. The traditional student is unorganized, stays late, does everything for herself, but truly cares for the patients and their families. On the other side, the modern student is clean and organized, does only what his job describes, works only his hours and nothing more. He works as a team with the rest of the staff, but he doesn’t truly care for the patients. Modern medicine has made leaps and bounds in the field of keeping people alive, but true care of a doctor also helps the patient and their family.
Describe the differences between nonprofit and for-profit hospitals. William & Torres provided a table to reflect hospital ownership, and noted that some hospitals, while owned by one type of entity, may be operating under a contract by another entity, such as a hospital management company (Williams & Torres, page 185). Some of the largest groups of hospitals in the nation are nonprofit community hospitals (Williams & Torrens, page 185). Nonprofit entities, including hospitals, function under special provisions of corporation law in each state, and under federal and state tax provisions that recognize their community service function (Williams & Torrens, page 185).
...provide information about an organizational financial stability and challenges. Saint Joseph's hospital has faced some fairly major challenges of the recent years. It has gotten to the point where they sought an entity to purchase the hospital and there were no bites for a time. That has since been rectified but the hospital continues to face some struggles as it relates to marketing and long term viability. St. Joseph must make an effort to identify their target markets and then effectively open up lines of communication via marketing to those segments. St. John's hospital has 407 beds and it is withdrawing from an alliance of Westchester County hospitals that includes Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. The medical center provides the most sophisticated services in the region, such as heart surgery and trauma care.
Healthcare organizations are designed to meet the healthcare needs of individuals and promote a healthy community. The three healthcare organizations that interest me are: The Heart Hospital Baylor of Plano, Texas Health Center for Diagnostics & Surgery Plan, and Parkland Health and Hospital System. Due to evolving healthcare industry, focusing on just patients and physicians is no longer a marketing strategy. According to Mycek (2015), “Marketing teams need to expand their consideration set and focus on the new 5 P’s of Healthcare Marketing” (p. 1). The new 5 P’s of marketing now impact the marketing potential of healthcare organizations by offering changes in sales rep – physician access, purchasing, formulary decision making, and growing patient empowerment. The new 5 P’s of marketing are: Physicians, Patients, Payers, Public, and The Presence of Politics.
At Mayo Clinic, the organization is driven by the needs of the patient and providing an unparalleled experience through integrated clinical practice, research and education for all patients. Analyzing the strategic plan for Mayo Clinic and identifying and summarizing long-term and short-term plans helps to develop an outlook for the future. “US News & World Report ranked Mayo Clinic as one of the 21 “Best Hospitals” in the United States in 2009” (Jones, 2010, p. 52.), and has been on this list for last 20 y...
With corporate health services, employers can partner with Saint Joseph to offer onsite health screenings and educational program. For primary care there are four locations in the area with physicians on staff who can offer services such as: annual physical exams, preventative health consultations; well-child examinations, including immunizations for children of all ages; care for acute illnesses; care for chronic illnesses such as asthma, diabetes, and hypertension; and osteopathic manual medicine. In breast care services offered include mammography; radiation oncology; breast biopsy; chemotherapy and hormonal therapy; and breast surgery. The emergency department has specialists in a variety of areas available 24 hours a day including: internal medicine, general surgery, neurology, cardiology, and orthopedics. With their variety of services and locations, I believe that Saint Joseph of London is able to offer a continuum of care. The primary care physicians are able to refer their patients to specialists in the same system and follow their care at the hospital as well. If the need arises, they can also transfer the patient to other Saint Joseph affiliate locations in larger cities who can offer more
