John Rutter Biography John Rutter was born in London, England on September 24 1945. He went to Highgate School where his love for music first began. He started out as a chorister and was involved in recording Britten’s War Requiem. He continued down this path and ended up at Clare College at Cambridge. During his time there as a student was in the choir, and had compositions published which he wrote when he was as young as 18. He later became the director of music for four years. During this time, he led led to the choir to international fame. When he left Clare College he continued with his work with choirs; In 1981 he created his own. The new choir was called the Cambridge Singers. John Rutter is not as well known for
