During this assignment I took two different tests to help me understand the vocational personality type which best describes me. The first test was the Holland’s Occupational Personality test. The test was developed by John Holland, Ph.D., and covers six different areas: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. While reading through the description of all the sections before taking the test, I followed the instructions and highlighted areas in the description which I thought reflected my personality. In the area of realistic, I felt that I do enjoy working with my hands and being outdoors. This does not necessarily mean in math or science, but I really enjoy being challenged with a project which someone believes can’t be done. With my current career in homicide, the unit and detectives I work with are very similar in this manner. We take every homicide case seriously; however, we really enjoy the ones which challenge us. When plotting my score, I scored evenly with realistic section, which was slightly above middle range. The artistic are is an area in which I have very little familiarity with. While reading the description of the artistic area, I was unable to highlight any areas where I felt described my personality. I also scored the lowest in this area out of all the sections during the test. The next three section are areas where I scored the highest on. With social and conventional, I scored almost maximum on the scale and with enterprising I scored maximum with. What was surprising, however, is while I was reading the description under social, I only highlighted a few areas which I felt described me. Most of which was concerned with the welfare of others and generally focused on solving interpersonal
