On the night of May 24 John Brown entered the proslavery town of Pottawatomie Creek. Brown and his group were armed with rifles and, knives to drag out helpless people and hack their heads with the broadswords. Brown and his men killed two sons of an individual whom they sought. Before night was through, five victims were brutally slain by the hands of John Brown. Lawrence and the massacre at Pottawatomie Creek set off a brutal guerrilla war in Kansas. By the end of 1856, over 200 people would be gunned down in cold blood. Abolitionist John Brown leads a small group on a raid against a federal armory in Harpers' Ferry. In 1857, John Brown returned to the East and began to seek money to carry out his vision of a mass uprising of slaves. John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry was not his first. He was involved in many multi pro-slavery attacks on Lawrence Kansas. John Brown hurting was tried by the state of Virginia for treason and murder and he was found guilty on November 2nd.
