In my 9th grade year, I decided I wanted to learn more about working on cars. I already had a little background knowledge from the help of having family members in this line of work. I knew I wanted to make a lifestyle out of this and with being a female, I knew that I needed to work harder than the others and this class would help me. I have been in the Auto Tech program for three years and I have learned a lot to help me with my career. Without the help of my Auto Tech teachers I wouldn’t be who I am today. I was lucky enough to do job shadowing at a few local dealerships in my second year in the program. During job shadowing I went to four local dealerships: Gateway Subaru, Courtesy Chevrolet, Pohanka Honda Of Salisbury and Pohanka Nissan …show more content…
At Mardela I am on the varsity cheerleading team which allows me to be involved in all the home soccer and basketball games, along with the pep rallies and spirit weeks. I have been on the cheer team for two years and I love everything about it. One thing that a lot of people get a kick out of is that I am a cheerleader and I work on cars because that is not a mix you usually see a girl doing these days. Between work and cheer I also volunteer at the Hebron Fire Department. I mostly help with the carnival during the summer, with some of the stands and with a few rides. Last summer I got the opportunity for me and the entire cheer team to get community service hours from helping with the snow cone stand. I took the initiative and made a schedule for the cheerleaders to know what nights they were needed at the carnival. I enjoy helping with the carnival, mostly because my whole family does and the people in the fire department have became family. When I turn 18, I will become a volunteer fire fighter at Hebron, which will allow me to give back to my community. Not only did my Auto Tech class help me get a job, I also was able to compete in the SkillsUSA competitions. In this year’s local competition, I placed 2nd which allowed me to move onto the regionals competition where I also placed 2nd and now I am going to the States competition in
Later that year, I was accepted into Spanish Honors Society, a volunteer based program to help out the Spanish communities near my school along with volunteering to help raise money for organizations that help less developed countries. One particular project that I helped raise money for through Spanish Honors Society, was Project Running Waters. The money raised for this event was donated to help people living in Guatemala receive fresh water through pipe systems that would be built. We raised over one thousand dollars to donate to this cause. Knowing that I can positively impact individuals in my community and in other countries makes me feel like I have grown maturely and am able to understand what needs to be done to make a difference to
My favorite service project was my silver award for girl scouts. Before Jamie Lince, Faith Brown, and I did the silver award the hoophouse by the elementary school was very rundown. There were holes in the plastic, weeds in the beds, and the wood chips in the aisles were worn down. The hoophouse couldn’t be used. We wanted to fix that problem. First we applied for grants. I never knew how many steps or how much time this would take. It really taught me how to handle deadlines so things get turned in on time. It also taught me that there are people that want to support you, and you just need to find them. The two grants that we received were a Lowes grant for fifteen-hundred dollars and a seed grant from Van Atta’s. The second step was to get people to help weed out the beds so we could plant the seeds we got from the grant. This took a few hours and a lot of people from the community showed up to help. The Lowes grant was used for the plastic that goes on the outside of the hoophouse and new wood chips for the aisles in the hoophouse. We had to have the help of Mr. Montry who makes hoop house...
My senior year of high school alone, I completed over 160 hours of community service. Being a full-time student and a part-time worker, unfortunately does not allow for much spare time, but whenever I do have a chance, I always volunteer through my youth group in church. One of my biggest goals in life is being able to give back to the community on a much bigger scale. Ultimately, I hope to even go full circle and give scholarships to Hispanic student like me.
I am excited about the prospect of attending medical school. My dream began when I was a child in a rural village in Bangladesh, continued through graduating from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) with a biology degree. Now, I am working in a research lab at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).I have had many experiences that have reinforced my desire to become a physician.
I started volunteering at the food bank and the soup kitchen in grade 9, with a nudge from my friend. During my time as a volunteer, I would ask for donations and collect any non-perishable food items. Later I would go to the Soup Kitchen, to help cook some of these items and serve them to those in need. My volunteering experience allowed me to experience the environment and face situations that I otherwise would not. It opened my eyes to the harsh reality and lifestyle that many individuals in our society face today. My time at the food bank and Soup Kitchen helped me understand the importance of giving, ...
In order to pursue a career in the automotive field, it’s important to use information to complete tasks that are given when either working on or repairing a motor vehicle. The main job of an auto technician is to inspect and take care of vehicles such as cars and trucks. Being an automotive technician is a job for people who are not afraid of putting themselves at risk or getting a little messy to keep people safe from malfunctioning cars. It’s the mechanic’s job to make sure that these customers are happy with the results of repair. This career is perfect for me because I can be a risk taker and I’m not afraid to get injured to get a job done. I am very passionate about working as a mechanic because I feel like I’m actually doing something
Aside from school I have always been active within my community mainly through youth sports. I have been a volunteer coach for over 8 years now and have managed to juggle coaching throughout my time in college. I coach at Arvada High School, where I am also a tutor for several of their student athletes, as well as through the APEX where I coach youth flag football in the Fall and Spring for kids aged 4-6, and basketball in the winter.
PREJUDICE DOESN’T EXIST IN THE sub-conscious, in the spirit. It appears to me that it is a construct of redoubtable yet somehow inter-acceptable attitudes which are disproportionately ratified via our mass ‘media-ocrities’, the woeful and careless ways we apportion our populace through commercialized and thus compromised (to the degree) media outlets, and which gather upon themselves a furthering of our seemingly innate capacity to dismiss all sensible conclusion to the contrary regarding the propensity of ‘the other’ to withstand disregard. Which is to say that some people have fully acquiesced to these notions of entitlement, the greater of these being the presumption of a superiority, to others, and to the earth, which indeed spikes
1. Employers should provide a flexible working environment for their employees. Certain employees have the right to request flexible working arrangements. Employers can only refuse these requests on reasonable business grounds.A flexible workplace is one where employers and employees work together to decide on working arrangements such as hours of work, work location and the way work is carried out. It means thinking creatively about how working lives can be planned to match individual and business needs.

I’m a senior at Weslaco East HIgh school, and I found out i love working on cars my sophomore year. I started loving cars because i would just see my step dad work on cars a lot and at first I didn’t think much of it, I thought it was boring, but not anymore, working on cars is something I’m good at. Working on cars is something I do as a hobby and I love it. The reason why i started was because I laid eyes on the mustang ‘69, I saw beneath that hood
The anchor is those elements of the self-image that people would not give up if they are forced to make a choice
When asked what my most meaningful achievements have been, it quickly comes to mind that it has been the many community service projects that I have participated in over the last seven years. Surprisingly, the service work that I have provided for others has benefited me as much as it has our community. Through volunteer work for our community I have gained both social and communication skills. I have learned how to problem solve as an individual and as a team. I have learned the value of hard work and sacrifice of my time to improve our community.
This year, I had the opportunity to give back to the community in many ways. I volunteered at Helping Hands, Meals on Wheels, and the county Science Museum. These volunteering experiences further opened my eyes to the needs of my community and the many opportunities to serve by volunteering.
These experiences have afforded me opportunities to demonstrate my gifts and talents that had previously gone undiscovered. Through different community service opportunities, I either learned something new about myself or I was reassured something. These qualities include that I am creative, reliable, open-minded, passionate, and an effective team player. Community service changed my life by developing my character through enhancing my transferable skills, which allowed me to see the world differently. Everyone, from all walks of life, needs to in some way, shape, or form give back to the community because it will not only benefit the less fortunate but it will benefit the volunteers as well. Additionally, I learned about the wide variety of resources available to help the community. There are so many resources out there that people are ignorant to like certain shelters and food banks. Ultimately, community service taught me the greatest gift I could ever receive, how to be
