Joan of Arc Joan of Arc was born in the village of Domremy in 1412. Like many girls her age she was taught like many other young girls her age not how to read or write but to sew and spin. but unlike some girls her father was a peasant farmer. At a inferior age of thirteen she had experienced a vision known as a flash of light while hearing an unearthly voice that had enjoined her to be diligent in her religious duties and be modest. soon after at the age fifteen she imagined yet another unearthly voice that told her to go and fight for the Dauphin. She believed the voices she heard were the voices of St. Catherine and St. Margaret and many other people another being St. Michael. She believed they also told her to wear mens attire, cut her hair and pick up her arms. When she first told her confessor she did not believe her. When she tried telling the judges she explained to them how the voices told her it was her divine mission help the dauphin and rescue her country from the English from the darkest periods during the Hundred Years’ War and gain the French Throne. She is till this day one of the most heroic legends in womens history. When Joan first began to hear her voices she taught it was the devil talking to her so she had an exorcism performed on her but nothing had changed. when she made her way to chinon she found the king and told him of her mysterious voices at first the king was very reluctant to believe her but soon became anxious and placed all his troops under Joan’s leadership. Joan really helped the French by giving them hope they never had. she encouraged them by giving them motivation. She achieved many successes in battles to come. her soldiers admired her and she was a very good aggressive commander. J... ... middle of paper ... ...nd she was condemned. the judges believed that he visions were from the devil and she was burned at the stake in Rouen in the marketplace on May 30, 1431 at the age of nineteen. Even though Joan was dead her family wanted a new trial for Joan against all the charges that were brought against her. She was given a second trial granted by Pope Callistus III for her in 1456 where she was pronounced innocent. Many years later in 1475 King Louis XI eventually gave in and signed a treaty with England and the Hundred Years’ War was finally over. While Joan never got to live to see her victory in ending the Hundred Year War she was soon known for being France’s national heroine. in 1920, Joan was canonized and was given the title of Saint Joan of Arc by Pope Benedict XV. Joan of Arc made many positive differences all through her faith in God even through her many hardships.
