Accessed 22/5/2014.] In the bible, Jesus is the way of redemption. Jesus was sent to earth to destroy everyone’s sins and clean a new slate for them to be good people and be accepted into Heaven with God. The reason behind the upmost respect towards Jesus is that he gave his own life by being tortured and nailed to a crucifix to heal people of their sins. He is described in Luke 23:26-43 as carrying his crucifix to his place of death, where he was whipped and then nailed by his hands and ankles to a crucifix and left to die next to other criminals who were also crucified. The men spoke to Jesus, asking him why he wouldn’t save himself and asking him to remember them when he enters Heaven, and he simply replied “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” This is showing that Jesus was a forgiving man, and that he had done his job on earth. “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” So begins Matthew chapter 6, the biblical book containing the story of Jesus Christ’s temptation. After his baptism Jesus is said to be led by the Holy Spirit into the wild, for forty days and forty nights of spiritual meditation, in preparation for his ministry. He fasted for the entirety of this time, fed only through prayer communication with the heavens. After this time had passed he was faced by the devil who, noticing his emaciated state, demanded that “If thou shall be the son of God, command that these stone be made bread.” But Jesus denied this request, stating that “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeded out of the mouth of God.” Frustrated
How do you see him? You might have gotten some of your ideas about Jesus from childhood Sunday school stories, or from one of the plethora of “Jesus” films.
One of the greatest debates that continues to rage on amongst theologians, as well as others, is in regards to the balance between the humanity and the divinity of the person of Jesus Christ (also known as Christology). This debate can be especially challenging in the Scripture passage of Matthew 26:36-46 where the reader finds Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. Many of the ancient and medieval theologians worked to explain away apparent humanistic characteristics seen in this section of the text, while more modern theologians seem to be more open to embracing these characteristics. While the ancient and medieval theologians may not have embraced the humanity of Jesus, the translations and backgrounds of the words “cup”, “grieved”, and “agitated”, along with the translation of the passage itself, the humanity of Jesus is not only present in the passage but also a necessity to the salvation of humanity through the sacrifice of Jesus. Simply put, for the salvation through death to be relatable for humanity, Jesus had to also be, at least in part, fully human as well as being fully divine.

...f God’s glory and for those that have questioned their faith. The book urges the reader to consider the sacrifices Jesus made, his role as a messenger and mediator, and the ability of people to find salvation through the acceptance of Jesus. These are central messages that other portions of the Bible touch on but do not discuss with the same degree or urgency.
What is your functional savior? As Christians you’re probably sitting here and you know what to say. Right? We all know the Sunday school answer. My meaning is Jesus.
Before this semester I had never taken a moment to ask myself - Who is Jesus? It is something that I have never been given the option to question. Being brought up in a strong Christian background, where I went to mass every Sunday, and then following mass, went to bible school for two hours, ingrained a specific image of Jesus into my head. This image portrayed Jesus as a white man who preformed miracles for the poor and oppressed, and also sacrificed himself on the cross for all of humanity’s’ sins. However, after taking this course, I have been able to rethink Jesus in ways that I could have never imagined. It has become evident to me that there are many different ways to see Jesus. And with each of these contrasting views, there comes both biblical and rational evidence supporting each image along with criticism disputing each image.
Jesus’ crucifixion is a remarkable story in the Christian light. The story tells of how Jesus Christ was accused of blasphemy, then taken to Pontius Pilate for a ruling to be killed. Pilate found him innocent, but in attempt to find a reason to kill him, he let the crowd decide Jesus’ fate. Stirred by the Jewish chief priests, the crowds shouted, "Crucify him!"
The Gospel of Luke centralizes the components of Jesus’ divinity, humanity, and ministry which contribute to the perception of Jesus portrayed by the narrator of Luke. Jesus’ divinity is demonstrated through his healings and miracles throughout the Gospel. His humanity is represented through the infancy narrative and also at the beginning of his Passion in the Garden of Gethsemane. Finally, Jesus’ public ministry serves as the most effective and important element of his life because of the essential teachings that he speaks of that give inside evidence to the formation of the modern day church.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is a topic that many scholars have discussed and debated upon and yet some still cannot come up with a sure understanding of what exactly happened during the resurrection and what did it truly means. There are many interpretations that people have regarding the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In this paper, the background of the resurrection will be discussed including the events that led up to the resurrection and the occurrence of the resurrection itself. Along with the historical background, an interpretation of how the resurrection of Jesus Christ is viewed will be discussed. This interpretation will focus on an interpretation from that of a Christian perspective based on Paul’s understanding of the resurrection
The Resurrection of Christ, as claimed in the Bible, embodies the death and subsequent revival of Christ so that he might take away the sins of humanity. Our desire to disobey God, originating from the Fall of Genesis 3, require that we pay the price of eternal death, ‘for dust you are and to dust you will return.’ As the Bible advances through the Old Testament and into the New, we realise that God’s determination to fix humanity reaches it pinnacle upon the sacrifice of his son Jesus.
Throughout history countless critics have tried to disprove the Bible by finding what they believe to be contradicting verses of scripture within its pages. One topic that has been the cause of much controversy between Christians and non-believers is the question of whether or not Jesus came to the earth to bring judgment or deliver us from it. In more than one instance the gospel of John gives us scripture that, if taken out of context, can lead to confusion on this issue. Through research of scripture and commentary by experts, this paper will affirm that Jesus’ divine purpose in coming into the world was to die on the cross as a final atoning sacrifice for the sins of all nations. However, it also stands true that although Jesus will be
When Jesus was on EARTH and BEFORE his death . . . it was FIRMLY established by his disciples that he was the Son of God . . . and would be the KING of God’s kingdom.
In the bible, Jesus and his resurrection into heaven is seen as a pivotal part of his life and the lives of all humankind. By being risen up by the Lord, Jesus is validating what only a select few believed. He was truly the Son of God and the Son of Man. God, the all powerful, was able to raise Christ from the dead and once again, have him at his right hand side. Jesus had to be resurrected in order to fulfill the prophecies made about the Messiah and prove to the disbelievers that he was who he claimed to be. This was exactly what occurred when disbelievers heard of the resurrection occurring. As found in the Gospel of Luke, “Thus it is written that the Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance, for
