1. Dolores Huerta was a member of Community Service Organization (“CSO”), a grass roots organization. The CSO confronted segregation and police brutality, led voter registration drives, pushed for improved public services and fought to enact new legislation. Dolores Huerta wanted to form an organization that fought of the interests of the farm workers. While continuing to work at CSO Dolores Huerta founded and organized the Agricultural Workers Association in 1960. Dolores Huerta was key in organizing citizenship requirements removed from pension, and public assistance programs. She also was instrumental in passage of legislation allowing voters the right to vote in Spanish, and the right of individuals to take the driver’s license examination in their native language. Dolores Huerta moved on to working with Cesar Chavez. Dolores was the main person at National Farm Workers Association (“NFWA”) who negotiated with employers and organized boycotts, strikes, demonstrations and marches for the farm workers.
Imagine working in the hot sun or being apart of child labor. You would be exhausted or want to escape. You would want better food because they provide you with so little. You would have been wishing for a better life. No one wants to work at a young age. They just want someone who cares for them. However, two people fought to stop these unfair laws. The biography “Mother Jones: Fierce Fighter for Workers’ Rights” by Judith Pinkerton Josephson is about an elder who is named Mary Harris Jones. She protested against child labor because these children were injured and she thought it was unfair. The Cesar Chavez Foundation (CCF) wrote the biography “About Cesar” to tell us how he fought for the farmers rights to give them fair laws. Both of these people fought for justice because they wanted better rights for workers. However, Cesar Chavez made a larger impact on the world we live in.

Maria Perez was born on May 18, 1944 in Zacatecas, Mexico. She grew up in a farm name Santa Rita. She is the last middle child of four kids, and her parents own a farm. It was a small farm, but she loves it. Since she was five years old, she helped her parents by working in the farm. Her job was to feed the horses, cows, chickens, and pigs. She loves all her animals, but her favorite animal was horses. When she was young, she loved to ride her horses. She felt off the horse and hurt head when she was young. She said, “I’m thankful to the lord that I survive that hit.” She wasn’t a normal child when she was growing up because she would just work with her parents and not plays like other kids. She wanted to have a normal childhood, but she had to work with her parents. She described
Selena Quintanilla Perez was born on April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas. Selena grew up understanding Spanish, but English was her first language. At the age of five Selena saw her brother learning to play the guitar and became jealous of the attention he was getting. She picked up a songbook and began to sing. Her family quickly turned their attention to her strong and beautiful voice. In the first grade Selena excelled at a game called Jump the Brook, in which two ropes are placed side by side and each kid takes a turn jumping across.1 In middle school Selena was in honors classes and made A’s and B’s. Selena used her allowance to put clothes on layaway. As a teenager, Selena hung all of her awards on the wall next to the staircase in her family’s house. As an adult, Selena was very involved with kids. She was a spokeswoman for the D.A.R.E. Program.
Fame never comes without a price and Selena paid that price by living a short, difficult childhood. While eight year old girls were outside having fun Selena was out singing at bars, weddings, fairs, and restaurants. She lived in an unstable household that eventually relied on the family band, “Selena y Los Dinos”, to eat and have a roof over their heads.
Viola Liuzzo, a young housewife and mother, devoted her time and her life to the Civil Rights Movement. Ku Klux Klan murderers ended her membership as a Freedom Rider volunteer during the Selma March and her life. My report will reflect the cause of her murder and how did her death and the mock trials of her killers cause a ripple effect across the civil rights community, judicial system, FBI and the White House. It will be discussed how her life would lead to the change of policies regarding the Voting Rights of the African Americans and why she is considered an important figure of the Civil Rights Movement.
As she made a name for herself, one of Jennifer's accomplishments is her influence within the Hispanic community. For instance, Jennifer participated with the organization Children’s Health Fund, which administers “a mobile van program that gives health services and education to underserved children in disadvantaged rural and urban communities” (“Charity-Jennifer Lopez”). As most know, one of the major group to have insurance issues are latinos because most latinos are undocumented. Her attendance at the Children's Health Fund Gala, shows how she can honor the 20 years of work and support that has been done to make the lives of countless positive. In addition, makes others acknowledge the fact that she goes out of her way to spread the word to assist the less
Her parents nurtured the background of this crusader to make her a great spokesperson. She also held positions throughout her life that allowed her to learn a lot about lynching. She was fueled by her natural drive to search for the truth.

Her day began the same as many of the other farmworkers in Immokalee, Florida - early. She was on her way to work at 5am, even she was not allowed to start picking tomatoes until the dew dried on the plants, which was around 10am. After her day started, she would endure long hours of work in the hot Florida sun with no breaks and earning little pay. She would be screamed at, and being a woman, she would be at increased risk for sexual assault.
Jessie Fremont, daughter of a prominent Missouri Senator, was the personification of a pampered, bureaucratic youth; she had strong connections with other high-profile politicians in Congress and a high-caliber private education. With such an indulgent and lavish childhood, it seemed likely that Fremont would grow into a spoiled and wanting adult. However, defying this logic just as Fremont defied social norms, she “matured into an assertive and determined young woman, who enjoyed flouting convention.”1 Since Jessie Fremont had an inbred hatred of slavery from her mother, Elizabeth McDowell, she addressed the controversial
I have a tender spot for Melissa de la Cruz, her books are one of the first YA I’ve read. Her upcoming title, Something in Between will come out on September. It tells the story of a Filipino immigrant, Jasmine who recently discovered they’re in US illegally. This means no full ride scholarship, and a threat of deportation. The premise suggest a somber realitistic fiction but even though that’s the case De la Cruz dubbed it as a Romeo and Juliet story. She promises a big love story. Hello, I am here for this
After one looked up Rosa’s early life, boycott, achievements, and her death, one would know more about her and her life. Because Rosa put forth courage, bravery, and desire, blacks now have the freedom they never thought they could have. And for this, the world is now, and forever will be a better place.
Compassion is something you see a lot in Jessie, she is very good at relating with people around her. She never makes it seem that she is higher than someone else because they are in a lower spot than she is. Having compassion for those around her makes her a very nice person to be around, no matter what you are going through. In the bible Jesus talks about showing compassion in Mathew 9:36, "When He saw the crowds,
