I would like to nominate Jacobi IV’s “The Curse Of The Hourglass”. As the director of this music video alongside my production company Komatik Films, we were able to create a captivating visual that embodies the art of symbolism and storytelling. Up and coming Canadian artist Jacobi IV dropped his innovative debut album “SADE HOUSE" on Apple Music, Google Play and Spotify, which explores themes of love, fame, and understanding self. "The Curse Of The Hourglass” served as his first visual piece off the album "The Curse of the Hour Glass" is a visual representation of the artist's quest for the truth . The Forrest and life are parallels. The forest takes on the characteristics of life representing how things are constantly moving and changing. In " The Curse of the Hour Glass" the protagonist (Jacobi IV) sets off into the world looking for answers only to …show more content…
The beat changes, we see the first encounter displayed in a face off between the two and finally we see the mannerisms of Jacobi IV change. The face off, much like a libra scale shows both opposing forces weighing their options where we see equivalent exchange occur when a deal is offered to Jacobi IV by fame. The deal is finally cemented when fame plants her mark on Jacobi and his eyes change to black symbolizing he his now one with fame. With a budget of only $400 we were able to shoot this video without sparing any details. Working within the budget we were able to cover the DOP, equipment and post-production cost. Inspired by Ridley Scott's " Alien" We didn't allow money to control how creative we were able to be. Just like "Alien" we didn't have the biggest budget to accommodate a huge crew or the perfect lighting but we decided it would be better to have everything in the video have a significant meaning rather than filling it up with over the top effects, loads of women or luxurious
It is true that the essence of any story is emphasised through distinctively visual images created for the audience. The ability of any composer- an artist with paint brushes, a musician with chords or the writer with words- to entice and evoke is at the centre of a narrative. Both Peter Goldsworthy’s novel Maestro and Beneath Clouds by Iven Sen evoke emotions in the responder through distinctively visual elements and exploration of the concepts appearance versus reality and influence of environment.
... light that seems to be coming from the opposite direction. On the right, Adam holds onto a branch from a tree trunk that is adorned with a serpent and a grapevine, symbolizing the temptation of sin. The serpent is tightly wrapped around the trunk and his heading towards the top. The serpent is barely noticeable, but balances out the tree trunk with the sculpture in order to create a more organized structure.
Besides using the novel’s characters to convey her message, Morrison herself displays and shows the good and calmness that trees represent in the tree imagery in her narration. Perhaps Toni Morrison uses trees and characters’ responses to them to show that when one lives through an ordeal as horrible as slavery, one will naturally find comfort in the simple or seemingly harmless aspects of life, such as nature and especially trees. With the tree’s symbolism of escape and peace, Morrison uses her characters’ references to their serenity and soothing nature as messages that only in nature can these oppressed people find comfort and escape from unwanted thoughts. Almost every one of Morrison’s characters finds refuge in trees and nature, especially the main characters such as Sethe and Paul D. During Sethe’s time in slavery, she has witnessed many gruesome and horrible events that blacks endure, such as whippings and lynchings. However, Sethe seemingly chooses to remember the sight of sycamore trees over the sight of lynched boys, thus revealing her comfort in a tree’s presence: “Boys hanging from the most beautiful sycamore trees in the world.
This film shows his artistic prowess, and helps inspire new film makers daily: creating storytellers that can spin tales that hypnotize audiences for generations to come.
Today I will be describing my design for a music video set in ancient Sumer. My video will depict elements from the Hymns of Inanna and the video of “Blurred Lines.” These two elements will allow a reflection of the cultural metanarrative and the sexual script of ancient Sumer. The video will play out between two gods and a priestess. My video will have four main sections that will breakdown what the video consists of and how it all comes together. These sections will be my main characters, setting, imagery, and lastly the theme of the video. There will be subsections that serve to only expand on each of my main sections and to give clarity to them.
In order for the composer to represent existentialism, the audience must examine how determination shows us that we can control our destiny through cinematographic visual aspects. Throughout Tykwer’s film, he showcased Lola’s determination from the amalgamation of animation and live action using a pastiche of animated Lola running down stairs to a close up shot of her face. With the close up shot of animated Lola’s face, the facial expression of determination encapsulates how we are fascinated by Lola for her determination to change destiny for herself. Tykwer uses cinematographic elements to represent existentialism in how we can control our destiny through determination.
This movie is beautiful to watch, yet difficult. It is raw, yet the cinematography is breath...
One of the most interesting properties of glass is that of it being able to bend and reflect light. Through the bending and reflecting of light rays, an image is created. What happens though when the image formed is not the focal point but rather is the source of the image, the glass itself? In the commencement of Dave Eggers’s novel ‘The Circle,’ there is recurring images of glass. The lustrous, pristine, and progressive visage that glass supplies encapsulated the Company’s essence of high quality and rapid advancement, and as such comprised most of the physical structure of the building. However, the high-end aesthetic that glass provides is not the only idea that Eggers is attempting to promulgate through the glass images. The less obvious
...ifferent visual concepts and musical composers, recently Phillip Glass. There is one thing for certain, music still becomes a primary component of her work. Take for example the words of Paola Ferreiro speaking about Neshat's recent work Zarin (2005), “There is practically no dialogue in the video. With the omission of voice, dramatic acting and soundtrack become the communication devices for the narrative. The lack of dialogue gives the viewer interpretative freedom, especially if they are ignorant of the original inspirational text.” (Ferrairo) I will undoubtedly keep Turbulent, Rapture, and Soliloquy close to my heart, as they are her most powerful works of art due to the fact that the sounds drive the entire emotional interpretation of the pieces. However, it is just as intriguing analyzing how Shirin Neshat
Mystical ideas about heaven, hell, angels, and the devil have been present in human lives for most of history. While some people simply take what is given to them without considering what else might be out there, others have faith in higher beings and need that support to survive. "A Fragment of Stained Glass" by D. H. Lawrence delves into the questionable beliefs of a mystical world outside our own material world. Lawrence develops these ideas by using a frame story that does not truly reveal itself to the reader until the end of the story. Understanding the underlying details that tie the frame story together is one of the hardest elements of the story to grasp. While the story may be confusing, using a frame story allows Lawrence to show the reader that mysticism lies within the eyes of the beholder.
The trailer released for the film followed suit, flashing images of violence, guns, and heart-throb Leonardo DeCaprio, in order to grab the attention of the audience. In most cases, people do not realize that behind these scenes lies subliminally transmitted emotion. Through the instrumentation that guides the trailer, the audience’s perceptions of the juxtaposed images are altered. By changing this music, one can change the tone of the entire trailer.
The forest additionally symbolizes the relationship in which native serves as a place of empowerment for individuals. This also adds to those the themes. The forest is a symbol of Prynne and Dimmesdale’s empowerment in the truth, hope and love. Upon their meeting in the forest, both feel positively changed as qu...
For a song to become a hit, it needs to sell many copies or be streamed and watched by many people. The 15-minute-long mini-movie, was the costliest music video ever made at that time. This revolutionary act was highly praised and considered a grandiose event. Jackson decided to continue telling stories via his videos, instead of filling a stage with models or show concert footage montage.
The Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASP) was one of the main reasons we won World War II. Thirty-five percent of women favored all-out war with Japan. The WASP training program was not easy to do. One thousand eight hundred and thirty women were accepted and one thousand seventy-four graduated. The WASP training program was rough.
The video is made up of 3 main components. There is Julia Roberts as the voice of Mother nature, eerie music and images and videos of some of the most beautiful parts of our planet.
