Jack Welch once said, “Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.” This quote summarizes what it is to be a great leader. The goal is always to improve others, not for one's own selfish desires. It takes a plethora of qualities to be a great leader, but the three most important characteristics are: courage, selflessness, and optimism. Leaders constantly face challenges that take massive courage to overcome. Martin Luther King Jr., for example, was one of them. No matter the violence or hatred he encountered he always pressed forward with the benefits of other people in mind. It was unpopular for blacks to take up for what they believed in, but he had the boldness to do it anyway. Just like King, Rosa Parks stood up for what she believed in, no matter the cost. She sat courageously, knowing the penalties of not getting up, for the sake of every blacks civil rights. Knowing there was a high possibility of going to jail, she stood firm. An additional brave leader was Moses from the Bible. Moses escaped the slavery of Egypt to lead his people across the Red Sea. Others mocked and ridiculed him, but he knew that in the end that was the way for him and his people. …show more content…
Gandhi, The Father of India, exhibited this well. He always put the citizens of India first. In doing this, Ghandi inspired many to take a stand for what they believed was right. Similarly, Mother Teresa dedicated her life to helping others. She went out of her way to help the underprivileged thrive. Others saw the impact she was making and soon followed. Out of all these great leaders, Jesus is the perfect illustration of what it means to put others first. Jesus came here to serve, and in doing so he gained followers of many. Even now, 2000 years later, we still follow in His
Many people possess leadership qualities although they don’t rule a country. Meriwether Lewis, the official leader of the Lewis and Clark Expedition has been called “undoubtedly the greatest pathfinder this country has ever known.” Just like Hazel, Meriwether Lewis led a group of followers into unknown territory. The two guides faced many difficult situations that they were able to overcome since they had the qualities of a notable leader. Both of the journeys were rough, but because of the brave leaders both expeditions were successful.
Leaders are snowflakes. Each one is unique with the styles of how they lead. Leaders can range from political figures, athletes, and your parents. Anyone who practices the five exemplarily leadership guidelines has the ability to be a leader. According to Posner and Kouzes, “A leader is someone who is active, causing others to act towards achieving a common goal” (Maude 1). Jackie Robinson may not be the first name one would think of after hearing the term leadership; however, Jackie Robinson fits the criteria of Posner and Kouzes definition of a leader. Jackie changed the world and how society acts becoming the first African American figure to break the color barrier across American sports. Through Jackie Robinson’s courage, Robinson was
If a leader is not brave then they will be a weak leader. Manfred von Richthofen also knows as the Red Baron was a WW1 German fighter pilot. Richthofen once said, “I have had an experience which might perhaps be described as being shot down. At the same time, I call shot down only when one falls down. Today I got into trouble but I
In the case of Mohandus Gandhi, his personal character allowed him to be a great leader. People wanted to be lead by him even though Gandhi held no real political office. At the beginning of his crusade to free India, he made his intentions completely known to the public. Not all people believed in the non-violence that he preached. To change that, Gandhi risked his own life fasting for long periods of time until all fighting and bloodshed stopped. It is selfless acts such as these that rang out to the population. Soon his ideas changed the characters of people around the world. This all could not have been accomplish...
“Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others” (Welch). Leadership is inspiring others to learn more, do more, and become more. Ineffective fail to possess certain characteristics which effective leaders do. Willingness to help others, selflessness, and strictness; these are the qualities of a both good and effective leader. Without these qualities, leadership would fail and being a leader would mean nothing.
Leadership is defined as the ability to accomplish a set goal(s) due to the act of inspiring and motivating a group of your peers. Former United States president Dwight D. Eisenhower made famous a quote that stated, “Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well.” (Notable-quotes.com). One of the most important aspects of the work area is leadership. Without leadership, there will be no guidance to for teamwork and the percentage of successful goal will be slim to none. Becoming a great leader is no easy feat however. An exceptional leader must lock in on specific attributes such as intellect, moral character, and human understanding. It doesn’t seem like much, but for a majority of people it can be almost impossible. These qualities alone listed above are some of many important qualities that will allow a leader to inspire and guide a group of people towards goals successfully.
One of the most essential qualities that a leader must have is courage. Courage demonstrates not only our beliefs but also perseverance to our beliefs in a time where they are challenged. As someone who presided and represented the United States of America, President Jimmy Carter had courage. President Jimmy Carter was one of the most influential presidents as well as one of the presidents who showed political courage when he signed the Hyde Amendment, because at the time, and still now, there are a majority of people who are against abortion.
Martin Luther King Jr. showed me how to be a leader by showing the streinghts and faults in humans and how to be a strong independent
In my opinion, a true leader looks out for and motivates his subordinates. As a result, the leader gets the very best from his workers. A leader is not afraid of conflict because a leader handles conflict professionally and works to find a solution that benefits the team. A great leader makes decisions that are in the best interest of the group. A great leader keeps the lines of communication open because a great leader understands that he does not know everything.
What makes a great leader? This is a question that has been asked over and over, but has been answered in multiple ways. Maybe this is because leadership can be a variety of attributes seen in a person. Some people believe that a leader is an individual who rises above their peers. Some people believe being a leader exhibits never ending courage. Others believe that to be a leader you have to be more creative than the rest. Although all these attributes make someone a good leader, they do not define every attribute a great leader displays. Sometimes being a leader means getting out of one’s comfort zone. Sometimes leadership is facing every day with a smile on your face, when a storm is brewing around you. Although what makes a great leader
Loving people unconditionally was another aspect of Jesus’ worship lifestyle. The Gospels depict countless examples of Jesus interacting with people. Every interaction was filled with love. He met people’s needs when he healed the sick and the blind and the dumb. He met the needs of the hungry thousands. The marginalized of society were always on His mind. From the women to the children, the aliens and the outcasts, He was a...
To begin with, there are a lot of traits that the leader should have in order to be a good one. It is very hard to say which trait is the most important thing to have as a leader. But, in my opinion, integrity is definitelly one. Consequently, it is impossible to be a great leader if you don’t have a quality to be honest and to have strong moral principle. All the people that
... for a particular cause and Jesus did this with his influence, charisma, virtue, patience, empathy and selflessness. Everything he did was to teach the way to salvation.
Perhaps the most important qualities of a leader are passion and motivation. Especially when leading a group for a particular cause, a leader must be personally attached to that cause. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., for example, is a legendary leader because he fought for a cause that directly affected him. had he not been pushing for a personal reason, his actions would not have been as passionate. This would have caused a lack in motivation, another essential leadership quality. A leader faces many roadblocks and opposition and thus, must be motivated to continue fighting and leading. A leader’s attitude and opinions are valued by the group and therefore, if a leader is motivated, the group will be, too. The continued actions and successes, no matter how small, which move the group closer to its goal also help its motivation and drive.
To be a leader you need to be able to inspire others, get people motivated, and set an example to other people. A leader needs to do all of these because if one of these aspects fails people don’t look at the leader...
