Research concept Mentoring and coaching in nursing is an area in the field of nursing and medicine which has been overlooked. The implementation and attention it deserves has not been given. In the work place, there is much unprofessionalism and many nurses don’t give it to their best because they have not been mentored and coached. Coaching brings the coachee to a higher level of proficiency since he/she gains new skills and knowledge. The coachee learns a specific skill from the skilled who is the content expert. For mentorship, it seeks out a good atmosphere for the mentoree to share whatsoever grave questions interfere with his or her professional and individual achievement. Although learning competencies may be applied as the foundation of the relationship, mentoring focuses on areas that touch the individual’s life and work. Formal education, practicums, and inductions offer a basis and understanding to mentor and coach the nurses for management roles and evidence grounded exercise (Feeg, 2008). A senior nurse may see management potentials or a gift in a junior nurse and decide to nurture, this makes leadership flows. It becomes easy to handover and provided continuity of care to the culture and performance of the hospital. Coaching and mentoring includes the senior nurse giving practical advice to the junior nurse and demonstrates how to manage a challenging situation. The junior nurse may ask the senior nurse any question that he/she may have and is assured of getting a positive response. The relationships developed during coaching and mentoring results in job satisfaction and contribute to staff retention. Coaching and mentoring has a big impact on the communication skills of the junior nurse. A nurse is accountable and I able to answer any concerns of the patient, their family, and other departments.
