QUESTION 4
Below is a step-by-step procedure on how to successfully deploy a software update:
• Review the source of the update; understand the function and what problems /issues the update is intended to fix.
To understand the effects of an update installation, the problems the update is supposed to solve and systems files that are affected should be identified along with whether the affected system requires a reboot/ restart. Should the update fail there should be a back-out procedure or a way to revert back to the old version. This should be documented to provide an audit trail of the updates that were installed, and the reason why the update was installed.
• Prioritize and rank the importance of each update.
This information can be gathered from the operating system manufacturers, peer reviews and journals.
• Begin the change control procedure
The change control procedure is a set of documented steps that all changes must go through before any installation and it has to be done before testing the update. Change control is implemented according to the importance of the update. Severe and critical updates may require some emergency remediation but the change control procedure must still be initiated before the deployment.
• Test the patch.
The aim of testing is to ensure that business operations are not impacted and downtime is limited/avoided. The software update process should succeed on the test environment, and should be without major issues. Applications that were running before the update should continue to operate without any issues and should the update cause any problems it should be removed successfully.
• Deploy the update
Once testing has been successful, the installation process can begin. There may be a need...

• A review of the datacentre infrastructure and physical environmental controls. A review of the information processing facility should include the adequacy of air conditioning, power supply and fire suppression systems.
• Audit of application software (Application software is the software that processes business transactions and or controls production systems)
• Compliance to standards, procedures and business rules in the flow and processing of information.
• Change management controls to ensure that any changes are clearly documented and follow the proper approved procedures.
• Validation of various data inputs and sanitization of data, exception handling and error logging
• Access control to the information processing facility.
In the novel Ishmael, written by Daniel Quinn, the narrator has spent most of his life looking for a teacher so he can learn to save the world. When the narrator was reading the paper he found an ad searching for a student interested in saving the world. After arriving at the address he finds a gorilla named Ishmael, who communicates telepathically. (Quinn, 1995)
In the novel, “Ishmael,” Daniel Quinn introduces two groups of people with an apparent connection with Mother Culture; the Takers and Leavers of the world. Quinn’s intended purpose of introducing these two very distinct groups of people in “Ishmael” is to show an outsider’s perspective on the world’s captivity, the creation myth, and the fate of the world- all of which are often given by Mother Culture. The Takers and Leavers appear to have very different belief systems and methods. The Takers, for example, have their organized religion to tell their stories, while Leavers have their spirituality to tell their stories.
Ishmael The Biblical depiction of Adam and Eve's "fall" builds the foundation of Daniel Quinn's novel, Ishmael. In this adventure of the spirit, a telepathic gorilla, Ishmael, uses the history of Biblical characters in order to explain his philosophy on saving the world. Attracting his final student, the narrator of the novel, with an advertisement "Teacher seeks pupil. Must have an earnest desire to save the world. Apply in person," Ishmael counsels the narrator through a series of questions that force him to stretch his mind. Diving straight into Biblical allusions, Ishmael begins his lesson with the history of his evolution from "Goliath" (17) to Ishmael. He explains this evolution as a time of realization where he shifts from blindly accepting the infamous reputation of Goliath, an evil giant from the Bible, to the quiet, thoughtful being of Ishmael.
Ishmael: An Adventure of the Mind and Spirit, by Daniel Quinn, is a philosophical journey that takes place between an unnamed narrator and Ishmael, a gorilla, who can speak telepathically. The novel begins by the narrator reading an advertisement in the local newspaper requesting a student who has “…an earnest desire to save the world.” This intrigues the narrator because he had been searching for such a teacher all of his early life. Although the narrator thinks the advertisement is a hoax, he persists on going to the indicated address to fulfill his curiosity. As the narrator enters the empty office space, he is puzzled and confused. He wanders next to a glass pane and confusingly looks through. As he looks through, the narrator meets Ishmael’s eyes for the first time. The narrator soon learns that Ishmael is a gorilla who can speak telepathically.
Daniel Quinn’s Ishmael is the story of one man’s quest for knowledge and his desire to “save the world”. Answering a simple ad in the paper of a teacher looking for students (p4), the narrator is sent on an incredible philosophical journey. The teacher our narrator expects is not that which he finds, however, as our titular character Ishmael, so aptly named by Walter Sokolow (p18) as he sensed the gorilla’s almost divine presence, is that teacher. This teaching is made possible by Ishmael’s miraculous telepathic way of communication (p21).
Establish a change management process. All the changes need to be documented for the reference of other team members.
... should be included at this phase is that the management will review and produce implementation guides for implementing improvements.
This action step will begin immediately as it is necessary to start this transformative process right away so that the new software upgrade is centered
Apart from reading chapter 6, I did some research from other resources to find out more about change management, Change is constant in today’s business world as Charles Darwin quotes, “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, neither the most intelligent, but rather the one most responsive to change”. Changes are often brought about by the top level management (i.e. leaders, managers, shareholders). Managing change or undergoing change situation is often a very difficult phase for most of the pe...
Monitoring, Review and Revision of Plan - ensures that it remains current. In addition, the monitoring process is backed up by full managerial accountability for the success of the plan.
The change process within any organization can prove to be difficult and very stressful, not only for the employees but also for the management team. Hayes (2014), highlights seven core activities that must take place in order for change to be effective: recognizing the need for change, diagnosing the change and formulating a future state, planning the desired change, implementing the strategies, sustaining the implemented change, managing all those involved and learning from the change. Individually, these steps are comprised of key actions and decisions that must be properly addressed in order to move on to the next step. This paper is going to examine how change managers manage the implementation of change and strategies used
change management is also called change control, it is an approach to use process, planning, and technique to changeover a group or an organization to show the future state and also achieve the demand of business outcome.(Rune Todnem, 2007).The meaning of change management which is when an organization grow slowly, and there are cause some internal problem, but it hard to change the business environment, the organization have to work out a change strategy,to adjust and improve internal hierarchy, workflow and enterprise culture,to help the organization transitions well, the key of organization change is management change, however, the success of organization change is come from management change, the change could not make sure the 100% success rate, even lower that makes people often scared and believe” change probably will failed, but not change absolutely will be failed, so realize how to change is important than why need change and change what.
