“Is Facebook Making Us Dumb, Boring, and Insecure”, a post on www.huffingtonpost.com published on 20 April 2015 with Carla Poertner as the author, discusses about negative effects of Facebook and internet in general. The author, Carla Poertner, mainly writes about negative impacts from Facebook which are intelligence deficiency, bored symptom, ability decreasing to learn new things, and jealousness also addiction of internet and technology. Because the negative effects and the causes discussed on the text are relative and depends on user’s experience, as many users can have various experience, it can be implied that this article is not fully correct.

The problem in Poertner’s statements about these effects is there is no supported data. Since there is any supported data on writer’s statements, the statements are less likely to be true for many Facebook users because users’ experience on Facebook are highly diverse. Therefore, the effects of Facebook on intelligence and shorter duration for brain to focus discussed on the article have smaller chance to become reality. The writer also wrote an example of a very long post that can make readers’ attention lost on Facebook due to decreasing attention duration. Based on what I learnt from my friends’ experience when I was on senior high school, “click-bait” titles also can push users to read very long articles on internet until the end, so the example discussed on the article is not always
