Intervention Team Meeting Reflection

During the course of my fieldwork hours I was provided the opportunity to attend several Intervention Team Meetings (ITM), also known as Student Study Team meetings (SST) within my district. In the Rialto Unified School District if a student is experiencing difficulty with class work, behavior, or attendance the teacher or an administrator can refer the student for an ITM. The referral process includes the completion of an ITM referral form along with the items requested. The form is then submitted to the school’s administrator to communicate with parents to inform them of an ITM date. Depending on the severity of the student file the ITM team can request the presence of the school psychologist or a special education teacher.
For the ITM I attended the school psychologist, Ron Thesis, was asked to be present. Prior to the commencement of the ITM the school psychologist, Ron, arrived 30 minutes early to discuss and also review the students ITM file. The ITM meeting was primarily led by the schools administrator, Kathy King. Mrs. King followed a specific agenda that tailored to the ITM referral form. The discussion commenced with the review of three areas of strength for the student, the major areas of concern, the teacher review of the students most recent work, and classroom modifications or current interventions. During the discussion of these four items parents were asked frequently for their input or questions they might have. After all four items were discussed Mrs. King asked Mr. Thesis for his input on the information reviewed. Mr. Thesis presented his opinion to the team and parents and recommended the student for psychoeducational assessment. Parents agreed with Mr. Thesis and the meeting came to a
