I agree that the interprofessional interview was very information in terms of the knowledge acquired. Yes, granted that we work with various health care professionals but the personal interview gave one an in-depth knowledge of what people do and how their roles though individual professions are intertwined with what we all do as we care for our patients. She also has her bachelors degree in nursing. I started my interview by introducing myself and explaining what my assignment was about, and how she could help me tremendously with answering some questions regarding her nursing career, and what she does as a medical surgical nurse.

An MDT must use multiple strategies to enhance communication and ensure their success (Doyle, 2008). An effective MDT generates opportunities that benefit healthcare, which is the reason for the recent dominance of inter-professional care in health practice (Simpson & Patton, 2012, p. 300; Rowlands & Callen, 2013). Many barriers prevent effective communication within inter-professional teams. Lack of communication within MDTs presents challenges to their success, leading to numerous consequences, including the failure of the MDT (London Deanery, 2012; Sargeant et al, 2008). Communication between professionals is the key factor underpinning the potential success or failure of inter-professional teams, the outcome of the functioning of MDTs will either benefit or impair care of patients.

The most recent example of interdisciplinary teamwork that I have learned about is a policy that was explained to me during my preceptorship. The policy calls for weekly interdisciplinary rounds where nurses talk about their patients to a team that includes a physician, respiratory therapist, dietitian, and any other member of the healthcare team. The purpose of the weekly rounds is to evaluate the patient 's progress and to adjust and coordinate their care accordingly. This practice is beneficial because it allows all members of the healthcare team to stay up to date on all aspects of care. I believe that being familiar with all aspects of care can aid in making better decisions for the patients. The only negative things I can think of with this practice are the possible increase in paperwork and on a personal note, increased anxiety for the health care worker leading the rounds. Inter-professional & inter-agency collaboration (IPIAC) empathises the importance of working together on a professional level with other professions and agencies. Effective Inter-professional and inter-agency collaboration is an important element within social work practice. It refers to social workers having confident within their practice and communication while working with other professionals “to achieve, effective outcomes in their work with service users and carers” (Thomas, Baron, 2012). Inter- agency and inter-collaboration enables each professional to bring their own perspective, theories and beliefs to the collaboration.
