Competence of Interprofessional Collaboration Based on the video I watched and articles that I have come across, they have explained in detail four core proficiencies of interprofessional education collaboration. These competencies encompass ethics for interprofessional practice, interprofessional communication, roles, teamwork and, in my eyes, nursing is very collaborative. For instance, interprofessional collaboration is aimed at making the most of the competence of the various professions to ensure quality of work. The first competency values/ethics is very straightforward in my eyes, per the collaborative learning website competency one is to, work with individuals of other professions to maintain a climate of mutual respect and shared values. With its team-based approach, the focus is mainly on improving teamwork in delivering better health care. First is setting clear goals for the team by creating joint missions for the team generally, and particular individual tasks are specified. Collaboration with other members of the healthcare team is a must, very important to share relevant information. Again, improving decision making is a process involved after teams' discussion. An interprofessional competency that was done well was roles/responsibilities; “Use the knowledge of one’s own role and those of other professions to appropriately assess and address the healthcare needs of the patients and populations served”, specifically, “RR3. Engage diverse healthcare professionals who complement one’s own professional expertise, as well as associated resources, to develop strategies to meet specific patient care needs” (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2011). In addition to having a specific objective assign and a clear role every team member should have the proper education that allows her to complete the assign task(s). Also an open and constant communication within team members is important, since the feedback from each other can help to the growth of knowledge of each of the team members as an individual, as well as it helps to resolve any issues or errors found within the interdisciplinary care model. In this event, the matter that is unusual can be the fact that I have experienced and witnessed the process for interprofessional collaboration between the community nurse and other professionals that I have never knew about before. This event made me realize that there are many aspects of community nursing that I have knew about before where in this situation it is the importance and accountability of interprofessional collaboration. From my nursing theory course I have learned that interprofessional collaboration is when the nurse forms relationships with other professionals that enable them to achieve a common goal to deliver care and strengthen the health system and clients involved in it. (Betker & Bewich, 2012, p.30) In this event, our mutual goal is to provide the appropriate care for the patients/residents so they can restore their health after their hip or knee surgery. In the nursing leadership and management textbook it stated “interprofessional practice removes the gatekeeper and allows client access to all caregivers based on expertise needed.” (Kelly & Crawford, 2013, p.35) In this event, my preceptor and I gained knowledge about Revera and will pass on this information to patients who are interested in staying at a retirement home after they discharge from the hospital. In today’s health care organizations, fewer and fewer individuals are working as solo practitioners ; instead, health care is increasingly delivered through teamwork, and teams are a vital component in health care organizations(McConnell,2006). Bauer and Erdogen (2009) define a team as a “cohesive coalition of people working together to achieve mutual goals”. (p.213). According to McConnell (2006) , teams are united by a shared purpose , regardless of the team’s type, composition, degree of performance, or reason for being. However, stress on independent and interprofessional practice is essential (Thomas, Crabtree, Delaney, Dumas, Kleinpell, Logsdon, Marfell, & Nativio, 2012). Professional collaboration is an important aspect regarding patient safety in the medical field. This is a time when different kinds off professionals collaborate with one another about a patient’s health status and condition. “Specifically, Interprofessionality is a process by which professionals reflect on and develop ways of practicing that provides an integrated and cohesive answer to the needs of the client/family/population…(involving) continuous interaction and knowledge sharing between professionals” (Black, 2014). The collaboration of different professionals allow for a better decision to be made towards the patient’s health outcomes.

Looking back on the online “Stroke and Depression” IPE workshop that was conducted as interprofessional group work has allowed me to gain not only the knowledge about stroke and depression but also the knowledge, skills and attributes required for interprofessional (IP) collaboration practice. Communication is a key element in patient care and nursing as a result of changes in patient care, transfer of units, and discharge of a patient. The amount of accurate communication is useful in obtaining all information necessary for individualized patient care. Collaboration is a key element in patient care and nursing as a result of identifying obstacles and forming multiple opinions and suggestions in the ways to demonstrate and apply appropriate care. Ethics is a key element in patient care and nursing as a result of a nurse’s approach in determining the right choices in aiding patient care. Morals are a key element in patient care and nursing as a result of nurses actions in decisions between right and wrong. These elements help and maintain the importance of human care in nursing (Bedin, Droz-Mendelzweig, Chappuis 2013).
Method Participants The sample of participants included in the study was 30 women and 30 men all of which were entering the library. The selection of the participants was based solely off of the gender if the individual and no other factors. Any other features of the participants were not noted as they were not significant to the study. The age of the participant was trivial to the study, however, as it is a college campus library therefore, it was inferred that the participants who were chosen were within the college age, 18-23, with the occasional nontraditional student as the exception.
