In comparison, anti-positivism rejects naturalism and partakes in an anti-naturalism approach to research. This approach is known as methodological dualism because it separates natural sciences from human sciences (CITE). An anti-positivist would aspire to understand the gender wage gap by observing social interactions, like gender stereotypes, discrimination, or even workplace flexibility (CITE). This approach of interpretation essentially interprets a form of life by “understanding actions, practices, and institutions”, and the “meanings, beliefs and preferences of the people involved” (Bevir and Rhodes 2004, 130). Creating the idea that if this gap continues to remain constant, or even worse grow, woman will never be able to reach equal pay. A podcast, How the Gender Pay Gap Works, presents us with a critical study done in 2011 in which shows a twenty five year old white woman compared to a twenty five year old white male. In this study both twenty five year olds contained the same qualifications and job title, yet the woman made a significant five thousand dollars less a year. Essentially this means that by the time she makes it to sixty five she will have lost out on four hundred thirty thousand dollars. This outstanding number shines light on the existing problem with women being mistreated and paid in the workforce. Though, they still face many issues and many walls that have to be broken down before they can be given the equal life opportunities that men are granted at birth (Lee). Feminism is still a prerequisite in the world today to battle against the iniquity in financial, social, and political aspects so gender equality can be achieved. Under the Equal Pay Act of 1863, the gender wage gap supposedly no longer exists, but the facts are that “as of 2012, women in the U.S. earn 77 cents to a man's dollar” (ProQuest Staff). Men try to justify this unjust statistic by saying that “wage gap isn't necessarily the result of discrimination” (ProQuest Staff). However, there is no logical reasoning behind it.
Women are faced with extreme pressure and alienation in their career fields, and on average earn less than men. Men, on the other hand, face similar pressure, while underachieving compared to women academically, and facing more dangerous occupations. Clearly, this system benefits no one. Michael Kimmel illustrates this point in “A black woman took my job': Michael Kimmel argues that it is in men's interest to work for gender equality.” The title itself emphasizes how the fight for gender equality will benefit both genders. He discusses how sexism is harming men by narrowing their worldview (2). Slaughter, Ullman, Kaplan, Dorment, Knestaut, and Miller all agree with Kimmel to some extent. They all agree gender equality does not exist. When all these perspectives are brought together, it becomes clear that it is in the best interest of both genders that the fight for equality is still pursued. Evaluating the accuracy of potential knowledge is essential in developing an understanding of the world. According to the theory of situated knowledge, however, this process isn't as simple as observing from a neutral, unattached perspective. Rather, the theory suggests that your situation and past experiences heavily influence what knowledge you hold, why you hold it, and your likelihood of accepting differing information. If perspective indeed influences what knowledge you hold, it follows that there is the potential for some people to have more accurate perspectives than others. I argue that feminist empiricism accounts for this more honestly and appropriately than standpoint theory, but that feminist empiricism must be thoughtfully applied to avoid being inappropriately inclusive of every perspective.
For instance, another one of my interviewees was a 36-year-old black female who currently works as a social worker and stated that they were no significant differences in opportunities between genders. However, she stated that she would be working in healthcare soon and has heard of issues pertaining to the rate I which men are paid as opposed to the women employees. The 21-year-old Hispanic male interviewee told me that he works at a non-profit organizations and the Executive Director makes the place safe and equal for all if the workers. The International Labor Organizations demonstrates that most women work in health and social services, where as only 42 percent work in scientific and technological fields. Gender is based on cultural beliefs that classify on what job positions should be held based on biological sex. Empiricists and rationalists have proposed opposing theories of the acquisition of knowledge, which appear unable to coexist. Each theory holds its own strengths but does not demonstrate a strong argument in itself to the questions, “Is knowledge truly possible?” and “How is true knowledge obtained?”. Immanual Kant successfully merged the two philosophies and provided a convincing argument with his theory of empirical relativism, or what some may call constructivism. His theory bridges the gap between rationalism and empiricism and proves that empiricists and rationalists each present a piece of the full puzzle. In order to truly understand Kant’s epistemology, one must first review and understand both empiricism and rationalism on an impartial basis.
The issue of gender inequality will never truly be solved in the United States. This arises from differences in socially constructed gender roles as well as biologically through hormonal differences, chromosomes, and brain structures. Gender inequality is defined as unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals based on gender. One of the reasons for gender inequality is income disparities. Another reason is because of the positions in the workplace. Thirdly, the reason is because of beliefs that one another has. For these reasons is why these situations should be examined to get to the root of the problem.

It is the idea that women tend to hold jobs that are low paid with low status. Women are not highly considered in leadership positions because of social construction of gender. Society has given women the role of “caretakers” and sensitive individuals. Therefore, women are not depicted as authoritative figures, which is apparent with the absence of women in leadership roles in companies. Furthermore, sex segregation leads to occupations with either the emphasis of women in a certain job or men in a certain job.

The positivist school was created in the 1800's and was based on the principle that the only way to truly understand something in society was by looking at it from a scientific point of view (Adler, Mueller, and Laufer 2012). There were many people who contributed to the positivist school, however the person who first placed an emphasis on a scientific approach was Auguste Comte (Adler et al 2012). By approaching criminology in a more scientific way, a lot more progress was made, as people began to consider the reasons for criminal behavior from a different perspective. Another key figure in the positive school was Charles Darwin (Adler et al 2012). When he proposed the theory of evolution it caused society to become more open-minded in regards to their views about the world, as people started to rely more on science (Adler et al 2012). Due to the contributions from Comte and Darwin, the positive school of thought was able to gain traction and in turn was able to help develop the field of criminology.
In conclusion conceptual relativism sets out to explain the world in term of the human mind to construct realities, and is concerned with truth and knowledge and radical Social constructionism is concerned with the idea that a variety of phenomena’s are socially constructed. This is then linked with the idea of radical anti-realism in relation to reality and the validity of science. Both are definitely problematic for any claim that the social sciences produce reliable knowledge for if knowledge is only meaningful to one group how can that have the same meanings to another group each individual sees the world through their own glasses so each and every individual holds a different opinion and no one opinion can be correct. How can any methods of research be correct if there is no real truth?
