In the book Interpreter of Maladies, by Juhmpa Lahiri, express the issues with females in Indian society. “Sexy” Talks about a lady name Miranda. She falls in love with a guy named Dev. Miranda felt very happy because Dev called her 'sexy '. They go out on many dates until Dev 's wife comes back from India. Miranda 's friend talks about how her cousin husband was cheating on her cousin with another woman. Miranda buys a dress a mistress wore wear, but Dev doesn 't notice. They become sex buddies on Sundays. Her friend 's cousin came to town, and asked Miranda to babysit the cousin 's child. The child saw Miranda mistress dress and asked her to put it on. The child called her 'sexy. ' He told her 'sexy ' means being in love with someone they
Miranda thinks she is in love with Dev but in reality she is not because she doesn 't know him as a person at all. She soon realize this after the child tell her the meaning of Sexy. It because of her innocent and lack of knowledge of good relationship with people. She finally lets go of the romance when she knew that it would not change at all because he is a marry man. The main character seem to not be in love with Mala even though they have meet several of times before, It just like how Miranda does not know Dev in any way and is in love with him. They are arranged to be married to each other and force to live with each other. He even mention how he was not touch by her words when a letter was sent to him. The main character did not even kissed or hugged his wife. He just knew that she was the perfect wife do to the explanation given to him by his older brother.” The only thing I ws not used to was Mala.” (Lahiri 's 190). I think he was afraid to get to know someone he didn 't know about. It may be because he grew up in a different way than his wife. It was something he could not get used to. Shoba fell out of love with his wife even though he tried to get back with her. He did not know that he was not in love with her anymore. He assume that they would be together after the second day of the game they played. It was like he was getting things
Miranda could have avoided it by breaking up with Dev the moment he told her that he was married. Instead, she followed him like a lost puppy not knowing that the partnership was just a way for Dev to have some fun. Even when she heard about the cheating of her friend’s cousin she refuse to take the chance and be a better person and break up with Dev. It not only her fault, but Dev as well since he led her on into falling in love with him. She could of try to get to know him and asked him questions. The main character is not trying to get to know his wife at all. Even if he does not have any feeling for her, He could try to learn to love her. It feels like he does not want to try to and needed someone to show him that his wife is very important to him. It was his job to love her and protect her even if he does not know her that well. Miranda has the same problem as the main character and that is trying to get to know someone they do not know the person they are with. Shoba and his wife could have talked it out after the death of their child. They do not and have not even tested if they could solve the trouble that they were having at the moment. It felt like they did not even want to be together at all. They were not commitment to each other or in love in the first place. During the game they played, the feeling they had were getting more distant by the day. Shoba and his wife were starting to see
