Being the instructor supervisor at my work center with only a year left of this assignment, I will focus on setting up my replacement for success as my first milestone. Once that assignment is over, I will go back to an operational assignment, most likely as an assistant noncommissioned officer in charge. From the leadership behavior self-assessment, my scoring is very high in the transformational categories. Being a transformational leader, I would want to improve upon the two lower scoring areas, inspirational motivation and idealized influence. By improving in those two areas, I would like my co-workers to view me as a well-rounded transformational leader. For my next milestone, I will need to improve over the next three to five years as a noncommissioned officer by using the five concepts I found most important from the module entries. Those five …show more content…
Furthermore, applying this concept effectively will reduce our time out of the comfort stage, which will reduce stress and increase productivity within the work center. Once we are back at the comfort stage, I can begin establishing myself as a leader with the use of The Johari Window.
In order to develop my interpersonal communication skills is to become aware of what I know about myself and by how other people view me, which I can accomplish by using The Johari Window. Furthermore, The Johari Window can reveal a blind spot in my interpersonal behavior that is affecting my coworkers negatively, positively or both. In addition, by being consciously aware of my strengths and weaknesses I can continually improve as a leader, subordinate, peer and even when I am not in uniform. Now that I know about myself, I will want to get to know my co-workers through social

...selbein and Cohen, “organizations that take the time to teach leadership are far ahead of the competition. By becoming familiar with the transformational leadership approach and combining the four I's, managers can become effective leaders in the business world.” (1999, p. 263). Transformational leadership can be applied in one-on-one or group situations. Using this approach, the manager (leader) and the associates (followers) are “transformed” to enhance job performance and help the organization be more productive and successful. All of these leaders have the attributes mentioned here. History will decide the greater impact they had on society as it is being written every day. Therefore, the qualities of transformational leadership make the essence of transformational management and the key to successful management of transformational organizational changes.
Chapter three of “Interplay: The Process of Interpersonal Communication” demonstrates a models of “self-disclosure that can help better understand how self-revelation operates in our relationships(pg 87).” By learning about self-disclosure and understanding the models, I was able to understand the effects and process of self- disclosure between my parent and I. According to Riggio (2009), the most popular theory of leadership is transformational. Many believe that these leaders get the job done through inspiring, modeling, and helping others develop their skills as leaders. Research provides clear evidence that groups lead by transformational leaders have higher levels of performance and satisfaction than groups led by other types of leaders (Riggio, 2009). Clear communication is vital to transformational leadership and in order to succeed further, one will need to work on their own skills, and set aside time and space for personal development (Manktelow, 2005).
Some leaders have natural capabilities but even they have to cultivate and develop their skills to achieve success. Individuals who do not have natural instincts for leadership communication can develop them if they have the energy and desire to do so. Developing these skills involve learning one’s self and capabilities. During this process a lot of information emerges and a lot of introspection is needed. While doing this self-evaluation areas such as image, dealing with the feelings of others, and various communication dynamics must be examined. This process can be time consuming and effective, it is worth the time and effort that is required in order to be successful. The process will reveal those areas that need improvement and areas where a person can excel. Once these areas are noted an improvement plan with goals can be created in order to work on becoming a successful and effective leader. It is a gradual process which if done seriously and efficiently could have outstanding results for the leader and his or her group.
In every society nonverbal communication is one of the most powerful tools that a person can use to interpret the message that is being delivered. Even though verbal communication is fairly straightforward, nonverbal communication allows others to sense the true emotions of the person that is expressing them. For example even though a person may say that they are not irritated, their usage of voice may display otherwise. Nonverbal communication not only reveals hidden messages, but it also complements, substitutes, and exaggerates verbal communication.

The exchange of thoughts, ideas, and concepts are all dependent on effective communication. Having effective communication enables further understanding of messages that are attempting to be conveyed. By assessing and analyzing my own interpersonal communication abilities I have been able to identify a number of areas where I am strong, as well as some areas where I could improve. This paper will detail information regarding my interpersonal communication skills, the development model, how to repair relationships, strategies for improving listening, ways to overcome communication barriers, and finally an evaluation of conflict management strategies.
The need for interpersonal communication across all human endeavors is growing especially in the context of
On a daily basis, we come in contact with individuals that we have to communicate with, wither it be for work purposes, educational purposes, or social practices. As active humans we cannot escape the idea of socializing or communication, therefor; we make it a daily routine who we communicate with, how we communicate with them, what we listen to and how we listen it. With this routine habits are formed, some are strengths but others are weaknesses that diminish the communication quality. It is extremely important for individuals to recognize these strengths and weakness within their communication routine. By recognizing their strengths, they are able to improve even further and use their ability to get them closer to goals they may have set for themselves. Recognizing their weaknesses is just as important if not more important.
1. What are the three purposes for which people communicate? What percentage of a manager’s time is spent communicating? Give examples of the types of communication managers use.
The purpose of this paper is not to teach you, or to show you how interpersonal communication is essential to everyday life at home or work. But, I am going to do my best to at least show you how essential communication skills are in all areas of life by using me as the example. My plan is to focus on some of the elements of interpersonal communication that we have been touching on this semester. While reading our Interpersonal Communications Book, three goals kept being highlighted that I personally wanted to accomplish by the end of course. I’m sure that by now have noticed that I keep referring to my topics as goals. The reason why I’m doing so is because I’m still on that learning curve…an ongoing process. If can recall back to all of our assignment in this course they all bring one collective point. That point is that, Interpersonal communication is an essential skill in everything that we do in life.

Then report will finish by myself-reflection to the response and develop actions for improvement.
Interpersonal communication is one of the significant skills while communicating with other individuals. It normally covers an extensive area and includes both verbal and non-verbal communication. Body language and facial expression may affect the accurateness of the message transmission directly. Interpersonal communication skills normally ensure that the message is sent and received correctly without any alteration thus improving the communication efficiency. The presence, or absence, of skills that relate to communication with oneself (intrapersonal communication) are critical influencers of many other aspects of oneself (Beebe, 2015). In particular, one’s intrapersonal communication impresses on one’s intrapersonal communication: mutual communication between yourself and at least one other (Beebe, 2015). The relationship between these two types of communication is complex and worth exploring. Using examples from seminar and my own life, in this paper, I will analyze my own self-concept and perception, and relate my intrapersonal communication skills to their effects on my interpersonal communication skills.
