To many the idea of how a family works isn’t something that they normally think about in a day to day basis. Being able to understand how a family works can be beneficial in many ways to the happiness within the family. It can also lead to better relationships between the members that are in the family. The makeup of a family is a very intricate sort of like a ecosystem. If you take something out of it the whole system will be effected in a negative or positive way depending on what it is. Studies have shown that family spouses showed a higher rating of satisfaction when the tasks within the family were equally distributed between the couple. For instance this can be tasks like the responsibility of taking care of the kids or chores around the house or who cooks when. Establishing these equally distributed roles within a family can lead to a higher satisfaction rating within a family. For instance we just discussed how the relationship between parents works, and things that lead to a more positive relationship between them. Same thing goes for children in a family. The relationship between parents and children is different then the relationships that siblings form with each other. Some examples of different relationships are father/ daughter, father/ son, mother/ daughter, mother/ son, sister/ sister, brother/ brother, etc. All of these relationships can have their own unique way of working and can have different ways in which they affect the family as a whole. Understanding these relationships can better help you understand how your family works as a unit. This of course is looking at a nuclear family and how each member affects each other but you can also look at how the extended family relationships affect the family system as well since they can also play a big role in families in some instances.
