Final outline Specific Purpose: To inform my audience how to set a formal dinner table. Central idea: Formal dinner table is an elegant setting and has easy steps to follow. I. Introduction A. Marilyn Vos Savant says, and I quote “Be able to set a table so that you feel like you are dinning, not just sitting and eating”. Knowing how to set a formal dinner table is very important. You might have to hold a business gathering at your home, welcome important personalities or important celebrations. Therefore, a good knowledge of this setting is important to know. And not only setting a table, you will also know what you have to use or where each utensil might be place when you get to attend a formal dinner. Place a well ironed table cloth over the table. B. A white table cloth is more preferable because it is classy. C. Place a centerpiece on the table. It could be candles, a vase, flowers, fruits or a modern pendant light. D. Note that the centerpiece should not be so tall that your guests cannot see over them. III. The second step is to place your plates and bowls. A. Place the dinner plate in front of the chair. 1. It should be two inches from the table (approximately). 2. The plate should be 10-12 in diameter. B. The dinnerware doesn’t have to match. For example: One should be lighter in color than the other. C. Place the bowl over the plate. IV. The third step is to place your flatware. A. They should be placed about one-half inch from the plate and two inches from the edge of the table. B.
