Instead, I've found that imitating her behavior can be surprisingly effective. By mirroring her diva-like attitude, I show her firsthand how her actions appear to others. This often leads her to realize the impact of her behavior and prompts her to change. I understand some might view this approach skeptically as bad parenting, but through imitation, Lavi learns to recognize and correct her behavior. For example, during our Barbie playtime, I might compliment her choices and say I'll do the same, fostering mutual imitation that builds her social skills for the future. Transition: By imitating both the positive and negative behaviors our children exhibit, we can effectively communicate that we are attentive to their choices. This allows us to use descriptive language to introduce new concepts such as shapes, sizes, numbers, and colors, aiming to encourage them to become a better version of themselves. Main Point #4: Play by play When I think of being a descriptive parent, I imagine James Stewart narrating a motocross race. He thoroughly observes each rider on the track, providing a detailed account of the action unfolding. This analogy illustrates how descriptive parenting involves paying close attention to our children's activities and experiences, offering them a clear and vivid understanding of what is happening around them. By showing our children we are paying close attention, we are also boosting their self-esteem. Transition: Hurray, we made it to the end! We've covered all but one last key element, and that is enjoyment! Just like how everyone became more involved when I shouted "hurray" because my presentation was ending, children feel the same way when a parent shows positive emotions while interacting with them. Main Point #5: Adding warmth and excitement to your interactions with your child lets them know how much you
