Purpose & Topic: I want to introduce to the class about some painful beauty modification across cultures and time.
Specific Purpose: To have a better look at the neck lengthening in Karen and Padaung tribe; leg lengthening in modern society; and foot binding in China.

I. INTRODUCTION:
A. Attention Grabber:
We, humans, take our looks very seriously, in fact, we have been chasing after what beauty comprises for decades, trying to fit in with the newest "trend". So why do we want to adhere to standards of beauty in society? The best answer to this question is because we were taught so. We were taught from the media about the false impression of body image.

In many cultures, to become what they consider "beautiful”, some painful satisfies must be made.

II. BODY:
A. Main point I: Women from the Karen tribe or Padaung tribe in Thailand, also known as the Long Neck women, determine their attractions through their long necks, which requires years to possess and their collarbones disfigured.

Subpoint A: At the age between three to five years old, young girls from the tribe start enduring heavy brass rings around their neck, sometimes their ankles, then throughout the years they can decide when to add more rings.

Subpoint B: This process does not elongate the neck, it in fact uses the sufficient weight from the rings to collapse the collar bones, and as a result, lower the shoulders.

Subpoint C: The more rings a woman has on her neck, the more elegant, valuable and attractive she becomes.
