Nothing is worse than watching a Netflix show and not connecting with it. It becomes so boring and feels dragged on as every episode plays. This poses the question what makes a good Netflix show? I have watched quite a few of them in my free time, so I have compiled a list of what makes a good Netflix show. To be considered a good Netflix show, a show must have multiple main characters, a love story, and high schoolers that are main characters. These qualities help a watcher to relate to the story lines and put themselves in the role of the character in their television.
All good Netflix shows have more than one main character. For example, The Vampire Diaries has 10+ main characters. This allows for many storylines and drama to occur. This ropes everyone’s lives lives together and shows their friendships-

For instance, the show 90210 follows the life of 8 high schoolers as they grow older and learn important lessons in life. They figure out their lives, giving high schoolers watching a template to use to figure out their own life. In the show The Secret Life of an American Teenager, the main character Amy gets pregnant at 16 from the popular kid Ricky at band camp. It follows her journey on when she has the baby, telling her parents, and how she deals with all the judgement of her peers. This makes a good show because it addresses real world problems and has the potential to relate with viewers. Another popular show is 13 reasons why. The Netflix original addresses the controversial topic of suicide. This makes a great show because it follows the life of high schoolers and how they deal with their friend committing suicide. This could potentially help someone cope who is dealing with a similar situation. While it is controversial, it talks about a problem that a lot of teenagers face. All good Netflix shows include high school students as main
In Jay Asher’s Novel Thirteen Reasons Why (2007), the characters struggle through many different ideas as they cope with how they played a role in Hannah Baker’s decision to commit suicide. While the idea of being the reason someone chooses to take their own life is not an easy thought to wrap one’s head around, and a thought that no one would even like to consider is true, Asher takes on this idea and helps teenagers come to terms with suicide. Thirteen Reasons Why forces the reader to reflect on the idea that every choice that one makes has an impact on everyone and everything around them.
Youth Suicide is one of the leading causes of youth death. In fact, statistics show that approximately 4600 teens commit suicide each year in the US (2013). One of the principal reasons why teens commit suicide is due to the fact that others have a huge negative impact on the teen's life. To prevent less deaths, one should learn that everything has consequences to it so one should consider how they affect others through actions and words. That is one of the central themes that Jay Asher shows in his book, Thirteen Reasons Why. He demonstrates the message by creating the tapes to represent the theme in the book. Asher also shows it by developing two strong lead characters, Hannah Baker and Clay Jensen.
For Thirteen Reasons Why, I am going to explain the literary terms. Thirteen Reason is about a girl named, Hannah Baker who killed herself. Before Hannah killed herself she made 13 videos of why this person made her make that decision.
Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the world and the 2nd leading cause of death in ages ten to twenty-four. With such high statistics, suicide has been given lots of attention especially in places such as schools to educate students on this major health problem. Thirteen Reasons Why tells a story narrated by Hannah Baker, the protagonist in the show. The show is divided into thirteen episodes each for every reason why Hannah took her own life, but suicide is more than just reasons. The show Thirteen Reasons Why romanticizes suicide and portrays it in a misleading way that could influence teenagers to believe it could solve problems.
These shows make millionaires out of people who become famous for all the wrong reasons. Being selfish and dysfunctional seems to be the criteria for being on these shows. Watching these people get rewarded for bad behavior sends the viewer the wrong message. MTV promotes teen pregnancy on TV by making it look like a good and fun thing. As reported by Doctor Logan Levkoff, a teen development expert, although MTV portrays the consequences of teen pregnancy, “They are on the cover of magazines, getting paid, getting endorsement deals, and becoming calendar models. Even if MTV shows all the hardships, they’re still being supported in so many ways. The way we bring people into fame for really not doing anything has created a culture where it is exciting to be a pregnant teen and the fact of the matter is that most teens who are pregnant do not have the same experience that the girls on those shows have” (cite 1) MTV sends a positive message and makes teens believe that high risk behaviors as a teen are not only tolerable, but the gateway to fame. Some teens might even think that girls could get pregnant purposely just for the publicity and money. There are also other shows, for instance “Jersey Shore” and “Real World”. On these shows, you see attractive young men and women going to bars, partying till they can’t even walk, picking up strangers and taking them home and sleeping with them and all these behaviors are shown without co...

Suicide is when someone takes their own life because they feel like there is no other way out or that they do not matter. In addition to the novel, a Netflix original TV series has come out based on the book. The executive producer Tom McCarthy explains, “...When you get a piece of material like this that’s actually about something? You take that seriously and you really hope the discussion begins and will continue.” Sheff echoed that sentiment in his Vanity Fair piece: “I’m proud to be a part of a television series that is forcing us to have these conversations, because silence really does equal death.” The TV show and book are forcing people to have conversations about suicide, which is helping society because as Sheff put it, silence equals death. With this in mind, making students talk about it at school could break down imaginary walls that divide students and mold schools into a more encouraging place for kids to go to. Also, Based off of the article ‘13 Reasons Why Controversial Depiction of Teen Suicide Has School Counselors Picking Up the Pieces’, The book Thirteen Reasons Why “has also been lauded for starting a conversation about suicide, which is the second leading cause of death among teens.” The quote clearly states that suicide is the second leading cause of death among teens, so this topic is very relevant to the school and the students inside of it. This
The teenagers age is most likely affected by the content of the TV shows more than adult one because adult people are more understandable that the content of the TV movies mostly has nothing related to our real life or even though if the movie was a reality movie, it could not fit in all traditional and communities. However, children would not think that way. they believe what they see about the family style which make them unsatisfied with their own lifestyle. This will lead them to have a trouble with their parents because children start complaining about their way of life. For example, in the article “Looking for Work” by Gary Soto, the narrator was inspired by the lifestyle that the family had in the movie which made him was not satisfied with his family lifestyle, then he decided to make changes on his family life. He began asking his family to dress up at the dinner. This is something that they did not used to do (20). But then he realized that the content of his family lifestyle is the only style that his family can have to stay happy (24). Basically, People should know that if they want more than life could give them, it will be a very depressing life. A best example about not all the tv movies events can be done in the real world is when we see how easy it is to steal a bank in some movies. Is it can be done that easy in our world? Of course not, these days stealing a bank seems so
Recently, a popular TV series “13 Reasons Why,” raised the awareness of suicide and mental health. Suicide and mental health are big deals, since suicide is the “second leading cause of death for ages 12-24,” according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (“Suicide Statistics”). People attempt suicide for various reasons, and mental illness is a significant factor. Consequently, risk factors such as chemical imbalance in the brain, genetic vulnerability, environmental factors, and family relationship intertwine and cause mental illness. Among those mental illnesses, depression is one of the most common and heavily associated with suicide. Depression is difficult to identify among the young people because the symptoms are easily
Suicide is a decision one makes to end his or her own life. People who make the decision to end their own life have often experienced depression, guilt, emptiness, or a combination of those, and many more negative things. Hannah Baker is a character in the book Thirteen Reasons Why By: Jay Asher who has lost hope in all aspects of her life. In this story, a boy who contributed to Hannah’s suicide receives tapes of her explaining the reasons why she did it. The tapes take him throughout the city they live in and help him understand further how and why she did this to herself. In this journal, I will be predicting that Clay will help Skye, questioning why both Justin and Hannah said nothing about what happened to Jessica, and connecting Hannah

Many reality TV shows are driving young kids to be driven by money and fame. Our reality television makes us seem ignorant to other countries. Young viewers of these reality TV shows do not realize that most of the shows are often scripted and are not “real”. Although the programming of reality TV can be highly entertaining, it is important to be aware of the messages, and values that these shows often portray. Since reality TV has such a strong foothold in American pop culture, it is likely not going anywhere or changing its content any time soon.
Being a part of a show from a viewer’s stand point is one of the best things about the show. The ability for the viewer to be a part of the show just by watching it. This is why the plot of the show is one of the
