In order to like a show, one must like some of the characters within the show. In Sherlock, every character is likeable to some aspect. There is a character for everyone in this show because of how different the characters are from each other. It is impossible for a person to not like at least one of the characters in this show. Some of the most known characters are Sherlock, Dr. Watson, Mycroft, Molly, Mary, and Moriarty. Sherlock is a detective who is very different from other people. Sherlock is very intelligent but also very strange. Strange meaning that he is socially weird as he insults and questions everyone and everything. There is no one else like Sherlock except for his brother Mycroft. Mycroft serves as somewhat of a father figure in the show. He gives Sherlock cases and every now and then assists him. The character that is closest to Sherlock is Dr. Watson. These two have an unbreakable bond throughout the show. They go on cases together and have each other’s back the whole way. All these characters are played by fantastic actors that really show the true potential of the character. The actors are really what make these characters’ shine, each role is filled perfectly. Honestly could anyone else play Sherlock other than Benedict Cumberbatch. All in all though, the characters and actors are what really add to this
Bow, this is because it is packed with suspense and tension throughout. It shows drama and suspense in different places which is why I enjoy it. Crime fiction has been developed over the years with such characters as Poirot. But all the characters have been portrayed similarly to Sherlock and Holmes. Crime fiction is so popular because it helps us become more involved and able to interact with the story.
As I continue to watch the show, I find myself identifying myself with some of the characters. Sometimes I even find myself thinking
Edgar Allan Poe is known for some of the most horrifying stories ever written through out time. He worked with the natural world, animals, and weather to create chilling literature. Two most notable thrillers are “The Cask of Amontillado” and “The Tell-Tale Heart”. Poe was infatuated with death, disfigurement, and dark characteristics of the world. For instance, due to plot change some character have been removed, but John H. Watson and Sherlock Holmes the heart of the whole story indeed are kept. For instance, Sherlock Holmes is portrayed as Watson describes him in the “he was as sensitive to flattery on the score of his art as any girl could be of her beauty” (Doyle 38). One of the first points that Johnson brings up is Multi Threading. Since the early 2000’s, many shows have taken advantage of this device. Shows such as “The Sopranos”, “24”, and “Lost” all take advantage of multi threading. Just to prove the point that this is what the people want, all three of these shows were very popular. In fact, they all lasted for at least 6 seasons each, with “24” going for 8 seasons. The idea of multi threading is to create multiple plots all going on in a single episode. Yet, at the end of the episode usually all of the plots become tied into each other. This causes the viewer to think ahead of time. It leaves you wondering what is going to happen later in the episode, or even what could happen down the line. Often, so many subtle things are said that the viewer may not even realize what was said or done was important until an event occurs.

Sherlock Holmes is a well known, complex and unique fictional hero whose “greatness as characterized by Dr. John Watson speaks to Victorian notions of leadership embodied in the Carlylian hero”(pg. 65) Although the character of Sherlock is known to be heartless and self righteous, the BBC’s adaption and Benedict Cumberbatch’s portrayal of the character is sharp, intelligent and sensitive.
