Michelle Borck, a 38 year old female was just involved in a life threatening car accident. She ran a stop sign, not visible due to a tree branch, and was hit at the passenger side of her vehicle by a semi. As the semi was driving at 55 miles per hour, her car was hit, and there was immense damage. Her car instantly caved in- bringing the passenger door inches away from her right side. From an observer, there did not seem to be any sign of life. As the emergency team cut her out of her car- they realized that she was alive but needed quick medical attention. This woman is my mother. Without a nearby emergency center, I would have lost her. When thinking about something like a car accident, gunshot wound, or severe neck and head injuries, you can usually refer them to seeking a trauma …show more content…
Trauma centers are specifically made for emergency accidents to provide people with the help that they desire. Imagine not having a trauma center near you in the time of one of these incidents. The risk of death certainly increases when one has no access to an instant place to seek medical attention. Time is precious- especially precious when dealing with serious injuries. Not having a trauma center takes more time away from all the time that one could have left. Trauma centers all over the United States have been forced to close due to insufficient funding by the federal government. Although trauma centers are what save the lives of Americans, numerous amounts of trauma centers have been in jeopardy because they do not seem to be a priority on the Federal Government’s funding list. While countless organizations have reached out to the government to fix the problem and trauma centers continue to be shut down or downgraded, funding for trauma centers does not remain on the Department of Homeland Security’s agenda. Las Vegas, for example, continues to be a region that rapidly grows. Las Vegas has more than two million residents; however, it only has one hospital designated as
On the morning of the 17th of May 2005, Nola Walker was involved in a two vehicle motor accident. She had just dropped her son off at his new job, when she ignored a give way sign at an intersection. When the ambulance arrived the officers, Nucifora and Blake, recall Walker being “able to converse” and “orientated”. Blake conducted multiple assessments and did her vital signs twice. The results deemed Walker to be within normal ranges, with the only noticeable trauma involving superficial skin injuries on the left hand, an abrasion over the right clavicle which was assumed to be a seatbelt injury. Ms Walker denied she was ever in pain. Nucifora mentioned on several occasions that it would be best to take Walker to the hospital to be further
At Ten P.m on September 23, 2006, my mother Kelli Elizabeth Dicks was hit by a car on Route 146 southbound trying to cross the high speed lane. She was being picked up by a friend. Instead of taking the exit and coming to the other side of the highway, her ride suggested she run across the street. The impact of the car caused her to be thrown 87 feet away from the original impact zone and land in a grassy patch of land, her shoes stayed where she was hit. She was immediately rushed to Rhode Island Hospital where she was treated for serious injuries. When she arrived at the hospital she was rushed into the operating room for an emergency surgery. The amount of injuries she sustained were unbelievable. She broke 18 different bones, lacerated her liver and her spleen, ruptured her bladder, and she collapsed both lungs. When she went in for her emergency operation, and had her
On December 20, 2011 at approximately 12:17 p.m., Elina Burdin was driving her motor vehicle South on Grove Street overpass in Bridgewater, NJ. At this time, Ms. Burdin was going around a u-turn roundabout when she gradually slowed her vehicle down due to traffic in front of her. While slowing down almost to a stop Ms. Burdin’s vehicle was struck from behind by a motor vehicle owned and operated by defendant William M. Koszkulics at a high rate of speed. The force of this impact knocked Ms. Burdin’s vehicle forward jarring her body forwards and back.
When you suffer an injury, you may immediately think that going to the emergency room is the best option. However, this may not always be the case because going to the emergency room can involve you waiting many hours before being treated. Luckily, there are urgent care centers that are capable of addressing many of the more routine emergencies that people may experience. In particular, the following two problems can often be addressed by these facilities.
From research through SAHMSA and increased knowledge through my choice in graduate-level courses, I learned how to best integrate a trauma-informed approach into my clinical practice. This example from my concentration practice shows how I sought to choose interventions from an evidence-based practice perspective, seeking to meet my clients and support their dignity and worthwhile also using approaches and interventions which have been shown effective through research. Although a trauma-informed perspective would have been beneficial in my foundation internship, it became imperative in my concentration internship and I increased my competency and supported the dignity and worth of my clients by choosing to learn about and integrate a trauma-informed approach in my clinical practice.

EVERYONE was wearing their SEAT BELTS, as is our family habit. EVERYONE walked away from this accident with only bruises. The only blood was Robyn had small nicks from glass in a couple of places on her right arm and right leg.
The prevalence of trauma of all types is widespread throughout much of the world and includes trauma from accident, child abuse and neglect, domestic violence, political conflict, war, or other human struggles. The many faces of bullying, hatred, economic insecurity and oppression (racism, sexism) leave a steady stream of survivors carrying the burdens of fear, anxiety, rage, and physical illness.
The weight of constantly listening to difficult, harrowing, and upsetting events in other people’s lives can have negative impacts on therapists, especially for those who are inadequately trained or who have poor coping mechanisms. While most therapists deal with this strain, it is particularly true of those who work consistently work with patients who have experienced trauma. Trauma refers to an individual's exposure to actual or threatened harm, fear of death or injury, or witnessing violence. Common forms of trauma seen in therapy environments are rape, abuse, victims of crimes, accidents, and disasters. Trauma work requires specialized training and support in order to be effective for the clients and to help to deal with, minimize, and
With my past social work experience I understand that trauma can affect many people in different ways. Traumatic life experiences can vary with everyone and their way of coping and reacting. I worked a children services for about two years. I have been able to witness the effects of trauma on a lot of the children I worked with. For example, I had to remove 5 children from their mother. Their mother was using meth at the time leaving the oldest child, who was thirteen years old, taking care of the youngest. The mother was in an abusive relationship with their father. The father was very emotionally abusing by threatening the kids and mother. Removing the children from their mother was a traumatic life experience.
When creating and implementing a policy for trauma-informed care for clients there are several components that should be taken into consideration. The purpose of a Trauma Informed Policy is to promote resiliency, health and wellness for those who have experienced trauma as well as their families (Clackamas County Behavioral Health Division (CCBHD): Trauma-, 2014). To do this the policy must create a minimum standard of care for those helping individuals with mental health and addiction challenges created by the impact of trauma. The policy must establish a standard to provide treatment in a trauma informed manner, increase access to effective and appropriate services for individuals who have experienced trauma, and alleviate vicarious traumatization of treatment providers along with any other person working with traumatized individuals.
Childhood Trauma is defined as “The experience of an event by a child that is emotionally painful or distressful, which often results in lasting mental and physical effects.” (The National Institute of Mental Health). Childhood trauma is an epidemic that seems to be running its way throughout the world. Childhood trauma is a worldwide problem that can affect anyone and everyone. People tend to just try and help the problems that occur due to the childhood trauma, but not the problem itself. Many of these issues will also follow the child into their adult years and will cause negative effects. This paper will discuss the negative outcomes for a child who suffers from childhood trauma, and the negative outcomes that can follow them into adulthood.
“ A family of five was traveling to Florida for a family vacation when the family was suddenly struck between two semi’s. The EMT’s pronounced the whole family dead at the scene earlier that night. Police have yet to release details on what the cause of the accident was but said it was an unexpected incident”, the local news reported said.
Regretfully, with no legislation in India to protect the person providing first aid, the biggest hurdle is fear of liability. As is evident, victims of road accidents are left to their destiny as the first aid worker dare not touch the victim. First aid or alternatively emergency care as it is called, is the instant help given to a sick or injured to ease off the pain or prevent the condition from worsening until a proper medical treatment is made available. It is that crucial initial action, which can prove to reduce serious injury and help improve the chances of
